BMW 5 series wipers - Colman
I have had three cases of wiper failures over the past 3 years (2001 BMW). On each occasion I waited for about 20 mins and everything started working again. During this downtime windscreen washer etc do not work either. Last time I was 200 miles from home so called out RAC, but true to form wipers started before they got there, and they have been fine since.

BMW can find no fault and suggest an expensive total strip down of system with no guarantee of finding problem. So far the problem has not happpened in heavy rain, but I am concerned that it happens again on motorway when I cannot stop easily.

Any ideas ??

The wipers and washers don't work if the bonnet is open.

It might be worth investigating whether you have a dicky bonnet switch.
The bonnet is closed but the switch thinks it's open and stops the wipers and washers working??

Don't think this is the problem as it seems to right itself and I've not opened the bonnet to investigate. Also, it ony happens about once a year !!
