Afternoon all!,
Mondeo is due for MOT at the end of next month, noticed the tyres are all down just under 2mm, so im going to get them all replaced. I currently have Goodyear NCT5's all round. I've checked Blackcircles for prices and they seem VERY reasonable on price compared to other big branded chains.
Anyway point is, there are a few different brands of tyre within my budget, which would you guys/gals go for, or what experiences have you had with these lot....
Goodyear NCT5'S (got them now, but they wore down pretty quick)
Dunlop SP2000E
Dunlop SP SPort 01
Pirelli P6000's
Hankook K104 (never heard of them??) or
Firestone TZ200
There all around £64-70 a tyre so not sure which ones.
Thanks in advance.....
Lee

Can anyone here provide further information on HJ's report that the autobox on the current hatchback Avensis is noisy?
I should be especially interested to know if the problem has been observed on the estate version, or with the 2.4-litre petrol engine (which is no longer sold). Read more
Yes, the 2.0 is fine. As with all VVTI engines it needs a bit of revs to build up speed, but with the auto box just keep your foot down on the pedal when moving off and it won't change up too soon. Or just drive normally and settle down to a relaxing, smooth drive.
The sequential setting is great for over taking as you don't have to wait for kick down-slot it into 2nd and you are away with no change up so you can build up a darn good speed quickly.
I love it anyway!
(Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldnt find anything thru search)
I'm kind of interested in the new Fiat Panda diesel, HJ rates it as do Autocar. Anyone here got one? Driven one?
TIA

They are a very good car. I have a 1.2 petrol verion and would have gone for the diesel ideally but they are more expensive. The 1.2 is adequate but struggles a bit on hills and motorways, the diesel has a bit more power and torque. Plus it's a chain cam engine so no worries about expensive belt changes or breaks. So long as you have it serviced it should last a long time.
I would make sure you get the 14 inch alloys with wider tyres as the standard wheels are too small and struggle for grip with the narrower tyres.
There is a Honda Legend for sale - 2001 51 Reg - 38,000mls only - there is only 1 model and only 30/40 were sold / year
One owner (deceased) / Then son as executor
FSH @ Honda Main Dealer
Looked at the usual in Autocar (Trade & Private sales) but most are high mileage - this one is near mint for year but 3.5ltr cars are not that popular with petrol being a consideration for most buyers. Read more
Absolutely right. Trouble is a quick look on Autotrader suggests the dealers don't read Parkers. The only way I can see anyone getting a five-year-old, low mileage Legend for 5K is if they happen on a private seller miffed at being offered peanuts by the trade or one comes into auction on a snowy day in February.

No -not mph - years of age.
Anybody else see the BBC 1 documentary last night on the aged drivers.
Some pretty dangerous driving going on IMO and not a lot of seat belt wearing.
I had to laugh at the forgetful but spirited 93 year old very genteel looking grey haired lady who was always leaving her walking stick behind .
I fell off my chair laughing as she was filmed coming out of her house , shuts door , turns deadpan to camera and says 'Wheres my walking stick ?? and returns to house to collect it.
She was later filmed driving off from the hairdressers with her walking stick on the roof of her BMW and being stopped by a lady to return it .
I am all for keeping old folks mobile but surely we should have some sort of more stringent test 's for the over 80's and not leave it to purely to them to decide when it is time to give up. Read more
This attitude that one must drive as fast as possible is
the attitude that gets 17 year olds wrapping their Novas round
trees. Highly irresponsible.
Didn't notice yr very reasonable post before stunorthants. Slow but considerate drivers are no problem to anyone. But one category that gets my goat is the person who slows to 40 for the twisty bits when higher speeds are safe but overtaking needs a Lotus or something, then starts to accelerate when it is at last possible to overtake. And other moving-obstacle stuff.
It is many years since I have tried to drive 'as fast as possible' as a matter of course! Bad for cars and wearing on the nerves.
However plenty of high-mileage Euro and Asioboxes can swim along at motorway speeds and better. There's nothing irresposible about wanting to do the thing quickly and safely. Indeed it is good for the soul.
Has anyone been using Rossini brake pads for a while? My Civic type-R needs fronts replacing so i'm thinking about putting Rossini pads in instead of standard manufacturer pads. Are they as good as HJ says? Read more
I bought this 98 civic saloon from a dealer 80 miles from my place a couple of days back. I have found that the rear demister does not work.
When I press the demister button on the dash, I can hear something click but the button does not illuminatte or do anything. I have checked the fuse (30A) under the bonnet to be ok.
Any suggestions? Read more
It's probably just a dodgy switch (the bulb in the switch might've gone, but it's a coincidence if not), could possibly be a dodgy relay (that's the bit that clicks when you press the button). Make sure there are two wires attached to the bottom of the screen as well - one of the connectors might've worked loose.
The dealer might agree to pay for someone near you to have a look, but I very much doubt it. Bearing in mind the dealer's 80 miles away, I'd be inclined to sort it out yourself.
I am after a 530d sport auto
has anyone ever considered pretending to be a motor dealer and calling up their local main dealer and asking them to contact them about any part exs on a particular vehicle?
I was wondering if I could call up my local dealer and pretend that I was looking out for a 530d for a customer and that if they got any part exchanged that are too many miles and too old for the used programme to lmk
do you think thats possible? Read more
I'm good friends with sales folks at a local new car dealership... part of a monster chain that does about half of all the car makes in town.
Despite this friendship there is no chance of getting a trade car from them. The dealer take is as Aprilia says... they will not sell any car unless retail and warranted or through a contracted auction house. They will tell you where the car is going if you really want to chase it but you have to go and bid with all the others.
If you know exactly what you are looking for and do not mess folks about they might just give a private person looking to trade in a nod you'd be interested to arrange a direct private sale and hence reduce their *price to change* a bit.
20yrs ago all the big dealers were happy to get a phone call asking for something tatty or high mileage round the back... it's all changed now.

my dad has a ford fiest 1.1 L reg...the car starts fine some days but then other days when i start, it starts then dies.....then i try again then nothing happens....but i have found a way of setting passed this by starting it then when it dies take the fuse out and start the car again, it runs then cuts out(no fuel going through)then put the fuse back in and it runs a dream.....a garage told me that its gasing its self but they dont no why.....any ideas would be great.....thanks Read more
If the engine is in basic good health and not breathing excessivly, then i would suggest that all you need to do when you start the car is make sure that you do not touch the pedals, crank the car till it starts and then let it rev up for 10 /20seconds and then the revs will settle down and then if you stall it it will start straight away.
Told my customers this whenever i sold these cars and only once had a problem because they didnt listen
I've always had the same experience with Dunlops, they lasted forever, but seemed to be Teflon coated in the wet !
