Is the heat shield on the Micra exhaust necessary? Mine has dropped off and the local garage said they are not necessary and I needn't bother replacing it. Is this correct? Thanks. Read more

Can anyone confirm whether a 2000 X reg 320 Ci would have had the 170bhp 2.2 litre engine or a less powerful one? Someone has told me that the 2.0 in this car may in fact be a 150bhp M52 engine.
I've tried CBC but can't figure it out...

My sister has a honda cbf600. She had a puncture and has a temporary repair.
Can the tyre be repaired internally, or is this risky. I know it can be done on a car.
Is it better to replace the tyre itself?

Oh, by any chance do you know their rates per hour. That is another consideration as I like to be charged reasonable rates!!!
Not for the first time, I saw an impatient driver go through a red light at a pedestrian crossing, after it was clear but well before the amber appeared. This was yesterday in the middle of a housing estate on the south side of Aylesbury. Is anyone else as horrified as I am at seeing a red light ignored? If that habit is going to spread, what next?
And what is it about the A41? Having reported the item "Motoring masterclass" last week, yesterday a Hotpoint van pulled out on me, such that I have to brake sharpish, then pulled in again only to turn off within a couple of hundred metres. Read more
I have noticed a similar effect in Reading - a year or two back a major failure shut down approx half the trafic lights across the town - I got some strange looks when I arrived 15 minutes early for work1
The interior light still works, (can be turned on/off manually) but the light does not come on when the door is opened - do and VAG owners know where the switch is ?

Alec - very useful link if you ever want to get inside a VAG door, which given the window winder failure rate, a lot of people might find useful.
However, a case of RTFM and 'how did the switch get in that position' have resolved my problem, along with the realisation that the lights stopped working after I had some 'young people' in the car.

I have a constant problem with squirrels running all over my car and leaving their dirty footprints on the paint work. It wouldn't be such a problem if there wasn't a hosepipe ban and that I am trying to sell the car and so want it to look as good as possible for prospective buyers. I have been looking for some kind of squirrel repellant but have found nothing. After you have stopped laughing, does anyone have any suggestions? Read more

This is on sky news website this morning...
A trial to ease motorway congestion by allowing drivers to use the hard shoulder is to begin next month near Birmingham.
The Highways Agency says it's a cheaper alternative to road widening.
But is it safe? And, anyway, should we be trying to cope with the number of cars on our roads or trying to reduce the figure instead? Would toll roads and higher fuel costs be a better alternative?
Let's hear what you think.

Thanks for putting the link Cheddar...locked this one.
Rip it off. When they get to 6 - 7 years they corrode and rattle. Mine was off for years with no problems.
