The off -side rear passenger courtesy light is not working , regardless of the switch position.
How do I get inside the unit to check the bulb?
It looks a tightly sealed unit and incorporates the interior motion sensors.

In the owners manual for my Superb (same lights) it shows in detail how to change the bulb for cars without sensors but refers you to a dealer for cars with the light/sensor combo(All UK cars). Looks like a unit replacement job.

Whilst on my way to Exeter to collect an Aga the eastbound carriageway was brought to a standstill because a minibus (judging from the size of the floorpan) was on its side.

There was at least one other car involved.

On travelling back westbound I noticed tailbacks for several miles. That was over an hour later. Read more

Got caught in a 9 mile queue to the M5 eastbound on the A30 at 4pm-ish on Friday - nightmare road now. The single carriageway from the A30 joining the M5 is the problem there.

Hi,

I'm interested in buying a second hand Skoda Fabia. The car is low mileage, approx 10,000 miles, about 18 months old. However the dealer (approved skoda) has told me that the car was previously used as a replacement car for drivers whose own car was off the road. This makes me a little worried that it might have been treated badly, lots of people wouldn't show the same respect to a replacement car as they would to their own.

Any advice?

Thanks,

variable servicing - the service is required not every 'n' months or 'x'000 miles nut when the car tells you, by measuring 'stuff' - number or starts, oil temperature, mileage, etc, etc,
i.e. take a car, drive it 2 miles a day an the service indicator may come on after 8,000m. Drive the same car 100 miles a day and the service indicator may come on after 10, 20, 25+ 000m

Probably, most people consider this to be means of keeping costs dowm for fleet managers

Huge accident Thursday 31st on the AI. Both lanes blocked for about 4 hours and Northbound for a further 2 hours. I delayed my journey and when I got to the scene traffic was flowing freely and there were 6 works vehicles replacing the damaged centre reservation barriers. I thought this was a quick service and well done the local councils. Also my journey was pleasing, PSA 1.6 Hdi, 210 miles at 62 mph and 57 mpg with the a/c on. Read more

Is it possible to replace the engine and gearbox of a 1994 Toyota Landcruiser series 2, 3.0 turbo diesel with the 3.0 Turbo Diesel and gearbox from either a Landcruiser Colorado 3.0TD or even the more modern D4D from the latest Landcruiser model, assuming I can get hold of one?

Or is this mission impossible?

Thanks,

Don't worry about the mileage, just make sure it gets regular oil changes. My 1994 4Runner has now covered 184,000 miles and doesn't use any oil or water. I change the oil every 5,000 miles ( I think Toyota recommend 3,000 miles). I always use genuine Toyota filters.

Vansboy

Usual things to check, but are you SURE the mileage is right - so many Astras are high miles, used as service engineers vans, with not much tools to carry, they can cover huge distances.

& if it's only Envoy model, think again & find an LS, then you'll have a nicer spec.

Or a Sportiv if you can find one cheap enough!!

Coverage on BBC R4 re corrosion of the main cables of the Forth bridge.
If it is not solved then a weight restriction will be applied, in a few years time, so trucks will be banned, causing serious damage to commerce in the area.

It was suggested that an additional bridge is built but it is a long lead time.

im having all the pads and discs replaced on my car. hyundai coupe 2.0se.

been ringing around some places and had some quotes that a have huge differences.

nationwide - front = 197.34
back = 183.28

national - back = 230

kwik fit - front = 213
back = 400

local - back = 218

local - 300 all in

anyway i have purchased the parts my self from www.buypartsbuy.co.uk for £117 including VAT and delivery and i have a local mobile guy coming to do it. he said it will be no more then £50 for rear and probably same for front. i have used him a few times and he is honest and fair so i know i wont be getting ripped off.

the thing is that they all seem realy high especially the 400 one. the guy said it will take a couple of hours to do the back.

assuming the rear disc and pads cost £100, thats £300 labour for two hours!!!

it amazes me some of the costs.

moderator - i dont feel i am shaming anyone by putting names of companys, just giving an insight into my quotes Read more

I was thinking the other day how DIY body repair work has gone completely from the motoring scene in the past decade or more. I used to spend many hours repairing assorted old Minis, Morris Minors and Mk2 Fiestas to keep the rot at bay. Accessory shops used to make a living selling fibreglass matting, plastic padding and those paint spray cans. Admittedly the results were sometimes mixed and any cars requiring bodywork repairs today would be classics and more likely to go to a proper repair shop using lead filler, new metal panels etc.
I hardly see any rusty cars today, the most is a bit of rot around the rear arches on old Mondeos or Vectras but that can be prevented by careful removal of crud when washing the car. Makes you think that if you look after the bodywork and service them regularly you can easily see 20+ years in a modern car. Probably an ECU or electrical fault too expensive to repair would not signal the trip to the scrappy rather than rotten chassis.
I can it now, mixing the resin to do some fibreglassing at the weekend, and the fun in putting too much hardener in! Read more

We have two 1994 VWs - a Mk 3 Golf and a B4 Passat estate. The only rust on the Golf is where a minor dent was repaired on a door bottom and it is rotting through. The Passat appears to have no rust.

The place to see rust these days is Land Rover Defenders. Sure, most of the bodywork is aluminium alloy (which corrodes into white powder) but the steel parts of recent Land Rovers (bulkheard and chassis, especially the rear X-member) seem to rust away as badly as they ever did!
