I'm changing the clutch on my 405TD with a BE3 gearbox. GSF don't do a clutch cable and a local car spares has quoted me £31. Can anyone let me know if this is over the odds and if so where I should get one from? I've also checked Europarts but they don't do one either. Google's drawn a blank too.
Thanks.
Steve.

New series has started on Discovery - Sunday evenings is the repeat of the week night episode.
Last night was a mid 70s 911 2.7 Targa. Import from the west coast of the US, so no bad weather to contend with, but it was British Racing Green - not a good colour.
Bought for £5,000 - bodywork and interior sound. Problem with gearbox identified on test drive, but they hoped it was merely a stretched gear linkage cable - it wasn't. Synchro between 2nd and 3rd gear broken following crashed gear change, replacement required £1500 for a rebuilt exchange gearbox. Targa roof repaired, new mirror and overriders fitted, as engine was out new clutch also fitted, full service. Total cost (excluding loads of labour of course!) £7,000. Sold for over £8,000. Ed, the mechanic sweated days / a week on it -
Apart from tarting up the 4 Wheel Drive badges and the rusty fixing screws on the bonnet.
My car wobbles at 50-60mph during accelaration the wobbling stops if foot taken off throttle or when you go over 60mph.The gearstick also moves in 5th when throttle depressed or released.Wheels have been balanced etc and rear and front wheels swapped. Hub nuts tightened lower arm ball joints replaced. There is no play in the steering or wheels at 12&6 or 9&3. Suspect this is more than a wheel problem any ideas?

Thanks to everyone who has taken time to reply. I have noticed since the rear and front wheels were swapped yesterday the wobbling is extended to up to 70mph rather than coming out of it at 60mph. I am getting it looked at on Thursday so I have a few ideas. Cheers guys
Morning all, it´s a sad day at Castello Barchetta as the little blue roadster is about to be sold.
One quick question - can I get some advice about taking out the few stone chips on the bonnet and bumper before the prospective puchaser arrives.
I have the correct Fiat touch-up paint, and assume it would be best not to use the brush in the pot (it´s too big for a fine job). I think someone mentioned using a cocktail stick or a bent paperclip to apply into the paint recess. I have a fine artist´s paintbrush that I can use too.
I would really appreciate any tips on this, as I need to sort it this afternoon.
Thanks in advance,

clearly spent far too much time on the sunbed, his orangey skin pallor matched only by the browny nicotine-stained teeth and 70s porn star moustache.
I Didnt know Big Bad Dave was after a barchetta?

Unfortunately the Japs do have a habit of not knowing when to stop designing & adding bits on.
Lexus are getting there I think.
When I was being taught , back in 1982, the instructor insisted I should always where possible have my hands at 10 - 2, I still do so, but I'm shocked at how many drivers don't.
1 arm drapped over the passenger seat , or ensuring the roof doesn't seem to fly off seem another popular place for the right arm, both arms resting on the steering column- do these people realise what problems they could cause- probably yes, but just to lazy to change. Read more
Ferraris used to be notorious for a more vertical steering column angle than in other fast cars.
Morning all. Am curious about this. For eg Jaguar offer 2 Black finishes, one metallic, one not. And there'e probaby about £450 - £500 in it for a new car. Essentially what will be the difference in terms of longevity , the 'polished' finish one could achieve and resistance to/ease of repair of stone chips ? Read more
the lacquer also seems to resist bird droppings a little better until you get to wash it off ................

I had a similar problem with the same model company Vectra. Lots of bits including MAF replaced at huge cost.
Turned out that the catalytic converter was blocked as it had been used very little and for short local journeys.
Replaced the cat and the difference was amazing.
After an article in Saturdays Telegraph I thought I'd make the effort and measuse the rugrats to see if I would need booster seats to comply with the new regulations that are soon coming into force.
I then realised that gave some thought as to how difficult the regulations are going to be to enforce.
1. In order to ascertain the age of the child then you are going to have to ask for it. Children should be interviewed with an appropriate adult who cannot be connected with the offence; so thats mum or dad out !I have not studied the legislation in detail but I bet there is no statutory requirement to provide the childs date of birth / birth certificate.
2. The child has to be over a certain height to be exempt. Now for that you will need a certified and calibrated measuring device! And what rights are there to ask a child to remove footwear to check the height when they are just over.
3. The onus is on the Police to 'prove beyond all reasonable doubt' - throw in a bit of " you dont have to say anything etc etc...." and without statutory requirements to provide the relevent details I think there is going to be a bit of a struggle to prove the offence.
Strikes me as just another piece of legislation issued by the beauracrats that will be almost impossible to inforce.

The rules don't make any allowance for the fact that some seatbelts are already adjustable for different heights of passenger. The upper mounting points on my rear seats attach to a pair of vertical rods spanning the rear window (estate). The attachment point can be lowered right down to the top of the seat for children or small adults, or up to the roof for giants. Putting in a booster seat merely replicates the adjustment already available.
Solvitol, which houses the Add-it and Nilco brands, was put into administration on August 3 and is now in receivership.
forgot to post this last month........my favourite car window cleaner is nilco and the add it brand was always popular here in yorkshire before it was taken over about a year ago

Solvol as well ? Happy days of cleaning chrome bumpers with
it and bike bits..
As it happens, PU, I was using mine at about six o'clock this evening to polish the Chrome end to the V70's exhaust! Over time it gets peppered with muck, a fair bit of which welds itself on as tiny dimples courtesy of heat. The aforementioned product has them off in a flash and the chrome gleaming to a near mirror finish.

Now that's interesting. I'm only going on what they tell me and what their catalog says. Is the clutch setup the same on 406TDs?
Thanks for the info.
Steve.
