hi all, the wifes punto has just failed its mot on worn rear suspension trailing arm bushes, i beleive they can be replaced in situ without removing the whole arm and hub, any advice much appreciated
|
the bush is integral to the arm ,they are about 45 quid from a factor with the stub axle on.
If you look at the hub assembly you will note that you can undo the stub axle nut and then the backplate nuts and withdraw the complete assembly off the stub axle and carefully with the brake pipe and hose untouched move it out of the way ready to refit to the new arm.
The bolt that holds the trailing arm on sometimes sticks so be ready for some big hammer action, this job usually takes about 40 minutes all in,dont forget to tighten the long bolt with the car on the floor and wheel on so you are not stressing the new bush.

I got the bearing kit from a local factors for about £20.
The only difficulty I had was that one of the bolts for the anti-roll bar was seized and snapped. I had to drill it out.
Fit a new brake flexi-hose at the same time.
