Partners SAAB's air con ahs just failed, first problem in 7 years, with the air con at least! Advice please. Should she get it fixed now or switch it off and leave it until the Spring? At this age of car I guess the gas has finally gone. There is an excellent mobile dervice near her so it is no problem getting it fixed. Now or in the Spring? Read more
The car runs perfectly but over the last 1,000 ml.has started misfiring on the overun(or probably firing as there should be no fuel going in).Any ideas??? Read more
Not just a pop-this is a good, solid clunk felt thro' the drivetrain.
In the name of public safety, the Government is considering making a fully functioning bell compulsory on every bicycle so that cyclists can warn pedestrians of their approach. Those cycling without an ?audible warning instrument? could then be subject to on-the-spot penalties or even a four-figure fine.

ps, please keep discussion away from a political debate and more of a constructive one regarding whether or not the compulsory fitting of bells to bikes will make the world a safer place. Read more
I had an interesting first encounter with a US cop on jaywalking. I'd just crossed the road, when there wasa "Hey! What do you think you're doing!?!".
Unfortunately, I had no idea what I was doing, and a slightly heated and confused 5 min conversation ensued, until I eventually persuaded the cop that I wasn't taking the mickey out of him and actually had no idea why he was shouting at me. Jaywalking's illegal in the US don't you know!
Hi
Please can anybody give me tips on how to replace the drivers door mirror glass on this car with electrically adjusted and heated mirrors?
There a big ball joint in the centre that clicks in a treat but how on earth do you connect the two small ball joints connecting the motor drives to the glass backing plate? You cant get at them and when any pressure is applied they just click and retreat back into the housing without engaging in the socket.
Many thanks Read more
Hi
Did you manage to replace the glass in the end? Can you let me know how to pop the ball joints back together....
The powers that be, hizonner et al., are planning to include us in the whassername zone. In our case though the proposal is to make us pay in advance by the week, instead of the daily arrangement tey have in the West End.
Neither the council Tory majority nor the Labour opposition (my wife tells me) wants this thing in K&C, nor any sane citizen otther than embittered cyclists and other lunatics.
They know most of us will want to use our cars most weeks, and will therefore want to know what the reduced annual rate is.
What I want to know is, who are these so-called people and what gives them the right to torture us in this way, other than our foolish votes of course?
Tell them to get lost. Greedy sods. Read more

Uncall for as you well know....
By the way, did you get round to reading either of the Kipling stories? Steam Tactics is shorter and better, but all very schoolboy. Quite good fun nevertheless, even the longer more pretentious one.
Should give a boost to your motoring spirit if you take the point though! !
My girlfriend has bought a Yaris on my recommendation to be honest but she's having bother with the clutch as far as I can tell. I've driven it and if you're particularly aggresive with the clutch i.e. bring it out too quickly then there's this weird humming noise like a loud vibration coming from somewhere. Thing is this also happens when travelling at 70mph on the motorway. Almost as if the clutch is slipping or something.
She's taken it into the dealer (all dealers should be treated with suspicion) and was apparently told that it's some cross member that vibrates against the underside of the car that causes it. I'll quote what the dealer said "Don't worry, all Yaris's do it". My question is... do they ? Read more

Did you read the piece by Harriet Ridley in Saturday's DT, she borrowed a 1000 mile R1 from a Yamaha dealer and attempted the "Ultimate Streetbike Challenge".
"The speed trap reads 185.2mph. That's outrageous for a standard R1 - I've just wasted Porky on his nitrous Hayabusa. The 200mph.org guys are sceptical, claiming the readings must be wrong. So I head out again, this time reaching 188.2mph. Egg gives me a ribbing over the tannoy. He's only jealous. I finish third in class, behind two ZZ-R1400s that manage 191mph."
Not content with that she borrows a modified ZX12R and does a genuine 200mph!
A good read and a picture too online that was not in the paper.

There's Mercedes Enthusiast magazine too.
My MB estate shut itself down last week without warning; diagnosed as needing a new air mass sensor. Duly supplied & fitted (£350) and we're back on the road. But ... I was warned that the sensor had failed because oil was reaching it - only curable by an engine rebuild. Q: is it likely to fail again in the short term or is it something that slowly gets contaminated so that I'm likely to get a year or two more out of the car? It's done 138K miles already. All comments welcomed. Read more
I am very grateful for all these comments; very helpful

In the article it says he ws driving "an old Citroen." I suspect the investigation will find that his spheres had gone, making the ride excessively hard and making it difficult to stop.

Mine only needed a recharge for the first time earlier this year. 1999 Focus.
No record though - I'm sure I read on here about someone's Civic lasting 13 years.
