I have a heavy duty 12v tractor battery that has been allowed to run flat.
When I put it on a mains battery charger the casing of the battery becomes very warm to hot even on a trickle charge.
Is this normal or is the battery beyond recovery?
Is their any simple way to know if the battery will hold a charge long term?
I'm using a Seeley starter/charger; Model 'professional' 'Superstarter' 420/1
Any advice appreciated Read more
I managed to scrape some of the factory rust protection (Rubbery plastic like stuff, looks like it would stop Titanic rusting!) off of the sills while travelling around Cornwall fully loaded.
Would it be best to just book it in for repair, or can you buy this stuff yourself? I've never seen anything other than Hammerite type things and wax.
Want to do it properly however I do it as the sills are so vulnerable. Read more
Crikey, I'd expect a new sill section, new bootlid and all
sprayed-up and matched for that money!
I think that's what they quoted for - i only expected a new sill and a buff on the bootlid. Used to get change out of £100 for a sill on my Chevette.....
Looking for some help. Just finished a head transplant on this oil burner and it now wont start. Is there anything that I am missing in terms of that little something that I should do at the end?
Please help!!!
Thanks

I've read somewhere you cannot mix Bosch and Lucas because of different operating pressures and volumes of fuel etc.
A simple way to test if you are getting any power to the heater plug connections, would be to get a headlamp bulb with two lengths of wire attached to the bulb. Then put one wire to earth and the other to a connection on a plug, so when the ignition is switched on the bulb should glow, if not you'll have to check the glow plug relay and its supply circuit.
To ensure your timing is correct you need three dowels, one for the Cam, one for the Pump and one in the flywheel behind the starter.
2002 2.0 petrol - any idea how much it's likely to cost to replace including labour (probably main dealer) - mine died this evening, and I'd like to know how big the overdraft will get to :-(
Cheers,

Yes - Green Flag man checked loads of stuff, but bottom line was power was going in to pump, and no petrol was coming out.
Thanks for responding!
I am trying to find out whether my car has a lambda sensor. Does anyone know? It is a 95 M 1.6 Zetec, I think it is Mark 6. Read more
Not realy worth it, IMHO. No offence, but your 1.6 Escort engine isn't a performance engine and will run quite happily on 95 Ron unleaded.
Well, camper if you forget the bed, the sink, the portaloo, and the cooker, but this looks like fun:

As long as it doesn't join the hundreds of others causing chaos for local residents at the 'vanfest' in Malvern. things should be scrapped en-mass!
Hi it?s always bugged me a little that Ford were so cheap that they didn?t bother putting door open switches on the back doors. I noticed that these switches seem pretty easily available for a few quid and wondered how easy it is to wire them in? The holes seem like they are already there as they covered over in a bodycoloured stick on piece of plastic. I just thought if it was a relatively quick and easy job I could add them in otherwise I won?t bother!
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

If the holes are already there ,then it is a fairly easy job to wire them to the front switches. The only difficuly part may be feeding the wire up the door post,by the seat belt reel.hth
Bit of a long shot this, did anyone attend the above auction last Thursday? Or maybe someone with Auctionview might be able to assist?
I'm trying to find out what the final price was for CX04 BNL, Ford Focus ST170 5dr in silver, ex N. Wales Police.
Also, a blue Focus TDdi CX03 ??? in the same auction.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Smokie, I was hoping Auctionview might show completed listings, never mind, thanks anyway.
Hi guys. The exhaust on my 2.5 Omega has finally given up and I'm trying to decide between the VX dealer (over £300 for the three parts) or a Walker replacement at £170.
What are others views of OEM versus aftermarket parts - I've had aftermarket exhausts before on another car ( deleted - please don't name the brand if you are going to be negative about them - DD) and they were really awful and I don't want to make the same mistake again.
Any thoughts you guys have would be much appreciated as I seem to be running out of luck at the moment (new discs pads, shocks and rear springs in the last two weeks!)

I would think it is likely that walker or bosal make for vauxhall.
I used to prefer bosal but they have got poorer over last few years imo
The Aircon has failed in SWMBO's 1.6 W-reg Astra Club
I know nothing about aircon, so i've checked all the fuses (manual suggests up to 3 relate to aircon, but then again fusebox depicted in manual bears no resemblance to fusebox in car !)
Is there anything obvious to check before throwing ourselves on the mercy of a local aircon specialist (recommendations for A/c specialists in wigan or warwick gratefully received)

thanks dd ! that made some interesting reading however old habbits die hard i still like the window open! but my mate says try it with the a/c on so i will thanks for updating my brain!!

It appears its beyond recovery after been flat for too long a period.
The outer case heat may be the result of some shorting going on in the innards when trying to charge it?
Ta for the advice
