having just bought a peugeot 206 1.4 lx on an x plate 2000 model i realised i didnt have a remote for the central locking system, so i bought a second hand one from a breakers yard ( peugeot dealer quoted £50 for a new one !! ) then having seen an ad on ebay saying that this person can show you how you can set the remote system up on the 206 for only two quid only to find it didnt do anything, so, rang peugeot again and for them to re register the remote would cost me £30 quid! and its only a 5 minite job! anyway before i grudgingly book it in is their anyone out their know how to do it yourself? or anyone had a sinular experiance??
thanks for any advice/help

My peugeot 406 has gotten into the nasty habit of not automatically turning off the radio when I take the key out of the ignition. Happens in about 1 in 10 times. The only solution is to restart the car (not just put the ignition on - at least this is how it appears to me) until the stereo on/off button decides to work (usually about three times). Any clues? I can ony guess that there be a loose connection somewhere, but I am not keen on taking the dash / stereo apart just on a whim.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

wally. Read more

More than 20 motorists in Hampshire have fallen victim to a mystery vigilante who appears to target drivers spotted using mobile phones.

All the car owners have found their tyres have been slashed and, in many cases, a note on their windscreens.

The sinister message, made from newspaper cuttings, says the driver was seen using a phone.
Hampshire Police are investigating the incidents in Gosport, Lee-on-the-Solent and Stubbington.

One victim was Rebecca Rendle, who was left with a £170 bill, when all four of her tyres were punctured outside her Gosport home.
"I was shocked and furious, I don't even own a mobile," she said.
"I think it must be (someone following me home) as that's the only way they would find out where you live.
"There's a loony who thinks they are doing the world a favour."

Police said they are investigating this incident and 20 similar cases that occurred in the area over the past several months.

Insp Kevin Cuffe, of Hampshire Police, said: "In most of the cases a note has been left at the scene and forensic specialists are in the process of examining these notes to gather potential evidence.

"These incidents are being taken very seriously as we appreciate that criminal damage has a very real and detrimental effect on the victims.

"Whoever is doing this may feel that he or she has some sort of justification but there is never any excuse to vandalise the property of others."

Tyre stabbing, apart from being very toeraggish if done at random, as this seems to be, is in fact malicious property damage liable to cost car owners anything from £30 to £100 plus.

You would have to have a much better reason than the one given by the vandal this thread is about, to have a chance of not being fined and made to pay compensation.

Hi, the CC on my Mazda 6 will at random default to its factory settings when the car is started. The dealer has changed the CC module but they are now a little puzzled as its happened again.

Has anyone had this on a Mazda or maybe another brand of car? The car is less than a year old.

Ta for any suggestions.

If it's intermittent, I'd be looking at the connector, the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) feed in particular (if you have a wiring diagram).

At long last the details are coming out for what I believe may be Britains best value high performance saloon car. If it is as well rec'd here as elsewhere in the world it should be a real winner. Saying that, I wouln't want to pay for its petrol !

I'm sure that there will be more indepth reports later, but here's one for starters.

Cracking motor, even if Murphy goes on about his a bit...

quite frankly I'm shocked that someone would say such a thing about poor old Murphy !!

I've not driven a V6 myself, but others that have place the CRD nicely above the V6 and a bit below the V8. I don't think that it bwould be fair to compare it with the SRT8.

335d, twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel is 282bhp, even more powerful than the 535d.

335i, 3.0-litre petrol engine also with a pair of turbochargers, 302bhp. Should be almost TD levels of torque.

325d, 6cyl 194bhp and combined fuel consumption of 44.1mpg!

Also remember that as the sa\ying goes, too much power is
just enough...

until you get used to it. Then you start wanting more.

It's really only ever too much it the chassis or driver can't cope with it, or it the powertrain is unrefined, like the customised 1932 Ford flathead roadster I saw once at Lords roundabout in St John's Wood, went BLATBLATBLAT! and was instantly in terminal understeer...

I was wondering if anyone knew of any oil change special offers currently available?

A few years ago I was pleased to get an oil and filter change from Kwik-Fit for 13 quid and was wondering if there were any similar campaigns running at the moment.

I am currently in the Basingstoke / Farnham area.

Thanks. Read more

My 405 used to be more lively on those kind of days. I guess the air's more dense and the intercooler works better too.

By which I mean without an overnight stop.

I'm considering driving to Germany next year but it will be a 200 mile drive to Folkestone and then 470 or so from Calais

I think this will be feasible in a single day...

Quite do-able - we usually end up near Munich in a single day;

Tips - use Eurotunnel - presuming their aren't any hold-ups, that saves quite a bit of time over ferries - book one nice & early (7am) ... and ... check roadworks on your route before you go !

As newsagents' shelves become more and more stacked with magazines about cars, it occurs to me that there are no 'motoring' magazines as such!

I've been buying Car magazine for the last year or so. It has always leaned towards top-end cars but now it's gone all Gumball.

The weeklies - Autocar and Auto Express present us with a make-believe world of computer generated (or are they the real thing?) pics of possible frothcoming models.

And then there are magazines devoted to performance mods, 4x4s, individual brands or even one single model (Porsche 911).

The AA used to publish 'Drive' magazine, which was a general motoring magazine. OK, it was a bit string-back-glove in places but I'd buy a monthly general motoring magazine in preference to what's on offfer.

And it's free. Thank you, HJ - we perhaps take all of this for granted but believe me it's appreciated, not least your honest and realistic road tests.
