I'm currently looking at purchasing a 1.8 tdci ford focus. I've noticed that many later cars have the lower output version of the 1.8 tdci engine, can anyone explain why this is?, is the 115 not reliable in that state of tune?. Also are there mechanical differences between the two engines or is the difference just different software. Read more
Hi all,
Have a colleague who has recently bought a Rover 100, but it only came with one remote alarm/immobiliser fob.
There are lots of places selling new fobs via mail order, but I need to know how easy it is to get the new fob "coded" so that it will work.
The car is completely legit ,but the new owner wants a second fob in case the first one gets lost.
The alarm/immobilser system is the Lucas 5AS ECU system, NOT the Valeo infra red one, the fob is the two-button type and the car is on a "P" plate.
I'd appreciate any help/advice you can give.
Thanks in advance

A Rover dealer will have the equipment to code the fob.

I was in Cardiff yesterday and decided to come back overland to Manchester to have a bit of fun on the bends in the Legacy.
Somewhere in MidWales this 1974 MGB GT in absolutely A1 nick decides to pull out of side road in front of me forcing me to brake and then takes off at full pelt. I was already driving with "great gusto" so I carried on in that style and it was obvious that he was out to teach me what a real car can do....
I wiped the floor with him over the 20 or so miles we were together, OK on the straights they just don't corner as quick as the Legacy but my point is that he was giving it everything in a car that's over 30 years old and I suspect is his pride and joy - is that brave or stupid? Read more
BUMBERS?? Eh?
After 2 visits to my local Ford dealership (Crank censor ,Fuel filter) they seem mistified by the cutting out problem, (car will immediately restart on the key) this occurs at any speed. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Read more
Thanks Quinny for yet more input and your valuable time to date.....Mike Farrow posted really useful information about a website on ford fault codes which we will be all hammering to death
Update on the car.... all Fine so far.....! Thanks again to all

Yeah, oil consumption is no bad thing (in moderation) but isn't going to make your engine last longer. Similarly, no oil consumption doesn't seem to make an engine wear out quickly.

BMW Hams Hall puts the vroom in your Beamer. The 103,000-sq.-meter plant produces four-cylinder petrol engines that are later installed in BMW plants in Germany, South Africa, and the US. Opened for production in 2000, the plant was the first engine production facility to be built outside of Germany and Austria. It is also one of four in the UK that manufacture for BMW Group's premium brands -- BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce. With a capacity for 400,000 engines, BMW Hams Hall currently produces 146,000 enginess annually. A boost in demand for Mini engines could double that number by 2006
The new Mini engine is to be made there too then. Will save BMW loads not buying the South American Chrysler engines.

Hello all, [ 2.0L 16v ecotec- auto 1994 ]
found oil in my spark plug holes the other day, car was running a little sluggish. I believe it's the cam cover gasket gone, so I'm about to replace it. I've got the gasket, sealant rings for the bolt-holes & blue sealant.
Can anyone advise me where exactly the sealant goes please? A link to a known diagram would be brill.
Obviously I've done some searching, but can't really find a lot.
Hoping to do it tomorrow, if weather stays ok.
{{ Also, any advice on the best way to clean out the crankcase breather. Seems to be bolted on behind the exhaust manifold, so I don't think I can remove it. I think this maybe was why the gasket went }}
Many thanks,

Thanks for that,
managed to find a few posts too. I'd been searching via the very top search bar ' site search ' , instead of forum search.

The OP was enquiring with regard to the 100 and 115ps versions of the 1.8 TDCi in the previous Focus, not the 1.6 and 2.0 Ford/PSA units.
