OK, I've reached 5 years in my Bora, and I'm looking for some help finding an independent to change my Cambelt

My local VW has quoted £377+VAT for the change....Steep and that does not include water pump.

I've got one separate quote for £175+VAT, and £40+Vat for Water pump, which seems more reasonable from an independent, but I have no prior history, just found them in Yellow pages.

Anyone got any recommendations in the Slough or Hounslow area for a decent garage with reasonable price

I would highly recommend Trucktest in Chalvey, nr Slough.

They are 100% trustworthy. I used to know the guy that owned it and I built his MOT waiting area. He sold the business but one of his mechanics, Tom Lacey is still there and is a top man. They have looked after my brother's Bora since new (its an x reg) plus some of my cars and my Dads and have always been totally honest and reliable. Tel 01753 550981 I think. If you go there tell Tom that Stuart who built the MOT waiting area recommended them!

If you take the Farnham Road out of Guildford at the top lay-by before you exit on to the Hogsback you will find an abandoned and soon to be disposed of vehicle.

It is an E reg Isuzu Trooper. Good tyres. Looks solid. No rust. Interior sound. Exhaust looks fine. Yes I do have too much time on my hands at the moment.

Now I have used these vehicles in Africa and had the use of one on the Hesketh estate many moons ago and they are tough and good tow vehicles.

OK so something major engine wise may have gone wrong but it had to be driven to where it was abandoned at least. Is such a car really worth so little as to be abandoned under current market conditions? Read more

I'm not sure what our local scrap dealer is offering at the moment but it can't be all bad. I've noticed a steady stream of cars on the back of trailers and lorries going his way lately.

I've also noticed an absence of scrap cars on the roads, plus ads for free cars with 6 months MOT. The lad who lined my chimney the other week was surprised I bothered collecting together all the ferrous and non ferrous waste from my house and other peoples to take to the yard less than a mile away. I don't get a lot but it can be as much as £100 a time.

Mind you, the price of copper pipes at the moment is rediculous.

I have read that Mondeo's are a pretty good drive and I'm wondering if others can confirm this. Some say that they are almost sporty?

Are there any different suspension settings on different models and if so which model 2002 --2005 is best if you want a sporty drive + being able to carry the family about? Read more

The Mk3 estate is a big car, but the handling is exceptional (for a tintop) until the suspension bushes wear. The 1.8 petrol is gutless so avoid, 2.0 is a good car, V6s are quick but the engine is a pig to work on. If the problems with the TDCi range are sorted then it's probably the best of the bunch, easy overtaking power available at not much more than 2000 rpm; do the newer TDCi cars still feature overboost? The last 2.0 TDCi I drove was surprisingly gutless off the line, I've been told this is due to the dual mass clutch/flywheel, keep the revs up and there isn't a problem.

Looking to purchase a 2nd hand car for the wife, to replace the ageing 1600 Astra Sport. Need it for work and the annual run to the airport.

The daily work journey is just over 2 miles a day.

So looking for something small reliable and cheap to run, But not to slow on the motorway.

Any advice please.

I've seen a write up / photos of next (4th) generation Previa...RHD version ...launched in New Zealand.

I called the local Toyota dealer...Not expecting the new previa here for two years
I called Toyota GB...Who say the Previa is being phased out of UK (end of this year)...There are NO plans for a new vehicle!!

(what till all the current stock has been sold I suppose!?!)

Does anyone have an inside track on Toyota...Point me in the direction of if / when a new model will materialise?

Many thanks...J

From what I understand they are not introducing a new Previa- or a new MR2, or a new Celica to the UK. I may be wrong though.

Now this is a difficult one to explain by words, but when I come to move on a hill the 1996 accord I have makes a loud creaking/moaning/whining sort of sound.
It sound like its coming from the front somewhere.
Only happens if I'm on a hill.

Any thoughts what it might be anyone?

Thanks for any help. Read more

It could be dry CV joints. When starting off and turning a corner at the same time, there is lots of pressure on the joints. The moaning could be the low speed equivalent of a squeak. Once things are moving the pressure is less. When I first saw your post, I knew I had to ask: Does your Accord sound like an Accordion?
Sorry....

It seems as though this Government is truly anti car in its outlook. Or is it the potential of extra fine income that drives it?

Thank goodness the majority of police forces understand that it is stupid. For laws to work well then the majority must see them as fair and reasonable. No doubt the police can see this will cause them more agrivation with the general public, ultimately alienating them still further and loosing public support.

A few days ago I heard on the radio that there has been at least one new law brought in each day since 1997. No wonder the laws of the land are coming into such disrepute.

My guess is that this proposed legislation will be passed with barely any murmur of protest from the majority of British people who do not realise they are sleepwalking into an elected dictatorship imho.... just like they accepted other attacks on our country in handing over our powers of governance to unelected EU powers and others that are too numerous to mention ..Everyday new laws are passed and with them a little bit more of our freedom is lost forever.
We are supposed to be a patriotic nation but this only seems to extend to adorning cars with tacky flags to support a bunch of overpaid oafs on a foorball field - why don't these people ever speak out on matters that are important

You should look at www.fordscorpio.co.uk . This is an excellent site dedicated to the Scorpio and packed with loads of technical stuff. Not saying it has the answer to your question but it certainly has stuff on there you won;t find in the user manuals.
