I have read that Mondeo's are a pretty good drive and I'm wondering if others can confirm this. Some say that they are almost sporty?
Are there any different suspension settings on different models and if so which model 2002 --2005 is best if you want a sporty drive + being able to carry the family about?

ST220 is the sporty one.

Or the Zetec S. (Has the 2.5 though where the ST has the 3.0)

The ST 2.2 TDCi 155 would be my choice - head and heart can both be happy.

The Zetec S is now defunct though later ones had the 3.0 V6, all Mondeos are entertaining to drive though the hatch and saloon are more so, if you want a sporty estate with a massive boot then look no further, I agree re ST TDCi or otherwise a Ghia X 2.0 or 2.2 TDCi.

The Mk3 estate is a big car, but the handling is exceptional (for a tintop) until the suspension bushes wear. The 1.8 petrol is gutless so avoid, 2.0 is a good car, V6s are quick but the engine is a pig to work on. If the problems with the TDCi range are sorted then it's probably the best of the bunch, easy overtaking power available at not much more than 2000 rpm; do the newer TDCi cars still feature overboost? The last 2.0 TDCi I drove was surprisingly gutless off the line, I've been told this is due to the dual mass clutch/flywheel, keep the revs up and there isn't a problem.
