Recently whenever I open this site, I can open the index page no problem but if I open Discussion or Technical, you can see the page loading across the base of the page then suddenly the whole of explorer shuts down. This only happens on this site, no other.
Microsoft suggests from the "Error Reporting" to shutting down of some of the unkown 'Managed add-ons' to explorer with no effects.
I've tried allowing cookies etc. This is IE6 and XP with sp2.
I'm doing this on another PC and I know its nothing todo with motoring, but its a pain when you can't enter this site on your own PC.

Slightly off-topic but are you completely happy with IE7? I haven't taken the plunge yet.

Plucking some average figures out the air, for today, crude oil is $75 a barrel and fuel at the pump is £1 a litre. I can't do the maths but if oil went to $150 a barrel what would that do to the pump price of fuel? I appreciate that it wouldn't double as well, obviously! One pundit/doomster is talking about $250 a barrel for crude - what would that do to the UK pump price, assuming Greedy Gordo keeps his taxes at the present levels? Read more
Market Background July 2006 UKPIA
The average price of major brand unleaded petrol in the UK reached 97.8 pence per litre and 99 pence for diesel, the latest monthly survey data from Wood Mackenzie OPAL shows. The survey of 11 major EU countries also shows that the UK continued to have amongst the cheapest pre-tax pump prices for major brand petrol and diesel.
Crude oil and refined product prices continued to reflect strong demand from those countries with expanding economies. Continuing political concerns in the Middle East and disruption to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska oil production has added to market uncertainty, pushing the price of Brent North Sea crude above $70 per barrel and the NW Europe price of unleaded petrol close to $800 per tonne, up from $583 average for January 2006 or the equivalent of 7.4ppl . Inevitably, some of the increase in wholesale prices is being reflected in pump prices on forecourts but as the figures below show, the gross margin on petrol has dropped below 5 pence per litre, which has been the long-term average of the last 4 years.
UK unleaded 95 petrol pump price composition
(average major brand price for July 2006)
Pump price 97.8ppl
Duty & VAT 61.7ppl (63%)
Petrol cost (spot price) 31.9ppl (33%)
Gross retail margin+ 4.2ppl (4%)
+ Gross retail margin is the difference between the buying and selling price of petrol. The amount available has to cover all the costs of storage & transportation from a refinery, the running of a filling station and profit of the retailer.

I am contesting a speeding citation by post to California. Claim is a radar in a highway patrol car regisered my car at 101 mph, which is totally wrong. Any ideas as to what I should write on the written declaration, to save a bail bond of $681.

Thanks FP. I've deleted the offending post.
May need to tread cautiously here.
It occurs to me that what feels like honest knockabout fun to some of us is experienced as ferocious and painfully humiliating bullying by others. Similarly, the issues raised and positions adopted are seen in relaxed fashion by some, and taken bitterly to heart by others.
Moderators seem more sensitive to this issue than some of the rest of us.
Just a thought, but takes all sorts, no?

Hi there,
I'm currently leasing an 05 Touran S 1.9 Diesel (7 seater) and I have an option to buy it very shortly.
The car has done 15000 miles.
The price they have offered me is just over £11,000.
Does this sound reasonable? I am told that the figure is about "book price", but I do not know which book!
Any suggestions on what the car is worth, including what it would likely fetch at auction would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Nigel. Read more
Thanks for the details.
Doesn't sound like there's much in it. For a car that I know, it may just be worth the fixed price.
Cheers,
Nigel.
Oh joy:

As I understand things the average time taken for a test was arrived at by timing actual tests at a sample of VTS's. It is not in VOSA's interests to artifically increase the length of time taken to do a test, but they are trying to ensure that tests are done properly. I very much doubt a full test could be done in 20 minutes. My father was the MoT tester in our garage and even 15 years ago, when the test was a lot simpler, he'd have struggled to do a proper full test in 20 minutes - and he didn't hang about. Just moving the car about (between ramp and RR etc) used up a fair bit of time - then there is warm up for the emissions tests, wheeling in headlamp aligner etc. There's quite a lot to it. Some cars do have 'peculiarities' that need to be taken account of - but 90% of the test is common to all cars and you can't just look for the typical fail points. There used to be (and probably still are) some VTS's who do dodgy tests for 'regular customers'. Computerisation doesn't stop this - VOSA have compliance people checking up on this.
We have something that actually works pretty well, giving the motorist a good service at a fair price, but still there is a desire to knock and moan.

Hi,
We have just purchased a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 2002 '52' plate 5 door. The car has the original radio cassette fitted and I want to change it for the higher spec CD. Does this just pull out (via the correct removal tools) and the CD fit sraight in? Also, I have the opportunity to have one from a wreck that has a silver front. The car has the rest of the silver parts still attached to the console - are these easy to remove and will it fit my car?
Some cars with CD players fitted have controls on the steering wheel. Is this a special wheel or can the relevant paddle assembly and associated harness be fitted easily to the existing wheel?
Sorry theres so many questions - I'm sure there's an expert out there who will have all the answers.
Thanks

Some of the newer "Vauxhall" stereos are coded to the separate display. Not sure if this applies to the Corsa, but you *might* end up having to get Vauxhall to marry up the stereo to the display.
I've driven on a track day at Cadwell, great circuit. There is a particularly tricky 90 degree bend at the bottom of a hill which made interesting driving, I was driving my brothers modified 2CV, which although was obviously slaughtered on the straights, it outran many westfields & caterhams on this bend - great fun!
