I decided to do throw caution to the wind, and changed the fiesta for an ST220 Mondeo. The car needs a service, and i just would like to check that the spec for the 3.0 Duratec is still 5w30 semi synth as opposed to anything else.

Hi,

sorry if this has been posted in the wrong forum.

I have a set of Audi roof bars, and am trying to fit my mate's roof box. The roof bars I have are the 'aero' type with a T-track. What I need to know is, where do I get the T-bolts from (halford don't stock them), and will 4 T-bolts be enough to hold a large roof box? Read more

IanJohnson

Measure the size of the slot and get some standard plated bolts which will fit to fasten the box on with. Should only be a problem if the top of the T is unusually thin.

Have not seen the original bolts but don't feel they will be any different. After all aluminium trains have loads of equipment hung under them on t slots using standard bolts and the same method is used to hold the valley rafer im my conservatory down.

vectra di,s always have engine management problemes, renowned for it, probley best getting it pluged in to a diagnostic to pinpoint it as there are that many sensors you could go on forever changing things, just hope its not the fuel pump as they go on the diesels and the car will still run but with a lot less power. good luck.

It was more to do with the company I had and it was a bit of a dump we stayed at in the Loire, I think thats how you spell it?
So thats the reason for it being tedious. On the good side we went to Le Mans and drove on some of the straight.

Hiya.

1stly thank you all for your help & good humour in my van vs mpv for my bassets thread.

Looked at a right snotter of a T4 2.4 just now-yes that's the right size.

Also looked properly at the HJ car by car breakdown, searched on here & found the t4 forum & the 2 german T5 ones-thank you once again.

But you try finding a 2nd hand T4, let alone T5. Autotrader (so SWMBO says....she's usually spot on about these things..) has bog all. Really? Where should I be looking? FWIW I live about 5 mins away from Blackbushe, although shamefully I've never been to an auction there. Sold one once, but that's another story.

Or am I into get a specialist fella in? Or the VW dealer network? I do understand about you get what you pay for (hence looking at these) but my original budget has been totally blown. Anything to get the price down is good. Although I do love VW warranties..& that steering shaft issue looks highly unresolved.

Have the latest brochure for the brand new ones. Crumbs, it's like 1st Class on BA. Not that we'd know, as we usually get herded through to the back..

Where's those LCD screens in the headrests then?

Just so the bassets can watch TopCat DVD on an endless loop!

The link below *should* take you through AutoBild´s table of fuel consumption increases for 4 cars with their aircon on - a Panda, Zafira, C-class and a Golf.
The bit on the left shows the different ambient temps tested: 20, 28 and 33 degrees.
The middle bit gives a percentage fuel consumption increase at 50 km/h.
The bit on the right the relative increase at 100km/h.

snipurl.com/vium

Zafira registered a 25.8% increase at 50km/h...

What I don?t understand is the big difference between consumption at different temperatures. I was always under the impression that climate control always ran the compressor but then mixed hot/chilled air to achieve the required interior temperature, only cutting out when the chilled air temp dropped to 5deg. I know most of these just have ?aircon? but it will be always "on" during all the tests.

P.S. Switching my Skoda Superb between ?auto? and ?econ?(compressor off) seems to make very little difference on the continuous MPG readout.

Just picked up car (99 PD TDi Tiptronic) after head gasket replacement.....(included new cambelt, tensioner, water pump, coolant and oil/filter)

Before repair car used to accelerate quite briskly but feels very sluggish post repair. Used to be able to overtake with ease, now I wouldn't be confident to even think about overtaking!

Anyone with any ideas?

Just a little observation I made today.

Yesterday i was cleaning a top-spec A4 estate which is about 6 months old and I have to say, Audi seems to be cheapening their interior trim somewhat these days.
The leather looked no better than that which I found in a Kia and the bit of psuedo-metal plastic surrounding the gearlever looked especially cheap and nasty. I also noticed that the boot carpet marks exceptionally easily as its so thin, so my customer, who plays golf and uses the boot often, already has a very worn boot area. I have another customer with one that is 2 years old and also plays golf and his boot looks like it was used as a pick up such is the wear and tear.

What makes me comment is that I was cleaning a 4 year old A6 today, also with leather. Now this car has 150,000 miles on it yet the boot area, which gets used extensively, is still as tidy as it was when new, because the carpet is far more suitable for a boot area.
The leather is also far better quality and the whole interior seems to have much more expensive looking trim, yet both cars cost roughly the same ( the A6 isnt that much more expensive ).

Is Audi cutting some corners now the same way Mercedes did?

To be honest, maybe not everyone would notice these things, but in my job, you get a lot of time to poke around a lot of different cars!

I notice that today's Grauniad has Audi in the bottom third of manufacturer's for reliability - but on the brighter side, also has the A6 as the most reliable exec available - I wonder to what extent there are different standards of engineering and effort made by manufacturers across the ranges they build.
