just had a panicked phone call from a mate of mine in Germany. Long story short he was phoned in the middle of night (midnight last night) and told he had to back in the UK for an early morning meeting in Birmingham today.
He had been in the bar until about 11:00 last night having a few drinks and set off at 04:30 to catch his re-arranged flight. He was subsequently pulled over for speeding, breathalysed and found to be over the limit.
He was then taken to the local police station and jailed.
He has been told his options are to pay 3k euros or he could be incarcerated for up to 10 days. He has also been told that he cannnot drive in Germany for a year - which will have a major impact on his job. He has about 500 Euros on him but cannot lay access to funds for a few more days.
I've done the obvious and told him to get a brief - any other thoughts.
Thanks in advance Read more

If it's as you describe you can't go wrong with this car, there is enormous demand for good low mileage Micra's. When I recently advertised my immaculate 1996 Micra 1.0 Shape 3 door ( also with 40k miles ) for £1195 the phone didn't stop ringing, got the asking price too. It would be a safe dependable first car.
A simple question, I need to replace the injectors on my 90BHP HDI engine and have seen some well priced 110 BHP engine injectors - will they do? Read more

Hello Long time no posting.
The car is a 1.1 Carburettor H reg.
A work colleague has been having a few headaches recently and She says fuel be smelt when the engine is off and the air vents are open and the fan on.
The lady concerned had the ford serviced at a main dealer and the found the fault and stated it was a valve in the air cleaner (Mushroom valve)
The problem is still there.
How can this problem be rectified.
All comments and help appreciated.
Martin.

Hello.
My friend at work's husband has looked at the underside of the air cleaner box and took the pipes out to find a small hole that was full of burnt up mayonaise. He has made the hole much bigger now and everything flows better the petrol smell has gone.
Why was this designed like this if it kepy misbehaving.
She now states the car is less hungry on oil and fuel.
Thanks for all your help on this matter her headaches are also going.

There are many many examples of damaged fences and pedestrian guard fences within just a few miles of my area around Kingston Surrey.
It seems that another damaged one is observed every time I go out. The latest is on the 30 mph A307 Old Portsmouth Road into Kingston. The railings between the pavement and the tow path have taken a big hit.
At many other sites it is obvious that the driver has not gone round a corner but gone straight on for what ever reason.
Is it just in my area or is this a trend that is happening in your area?

This happened outside our village school a couple of years ago - on a straight piece of road - at 3.25 p.m. Completely destroyed the railing by the childrens gate where parents and younger siblings congregate. Very fortunately it was half term.
Processed an extremely tatty 2005 '05 reg Passat today with 17k up so ready for disposal. What shocked me though was the state the car had got itself into.
All tyres worn with front two nearly bald on inside edges, cracked rear lense and chipped and cracked windscreen.
I'm not an expert but i'm sure all these points would fail a MOT test. As this vehicle will most likely end up at auction 'without' any of these faults repaired the new buyer could easily use it for another 2 years with MOT failure issues even before requiring a test.
So why is the 3 year until first test requirement still in force?
The MOT business has been thoroughly overhauled recently with computerized certificates etc so why has the 3 year rule remained unchanged for years?
I'm sure that like this nearly year old Passat there are plenty of other 1, 2, year old vehichles that are sure fire failures.
Why not a 12 month from new compulsery test? Read more
I'm sure that the vast majority of cars are serviced and roadworthy up to the 36 month mark >>
Well i'm not too sure about that comment. See thread on the unserviced Fiat Punto.
What about Vans too?
Thanks to all those for replying to my previous thread re: X-Trail 2.5. However, that choice went right out the window this afternoon when I test drove a BMW 120d SE and ended by buying the demonstrator. What a stunning car! Two 3rd-gear roundabouts and I was sold. Goodnight Vienna.
What really clinched the deal was the amazing price the dealer )Barons Farnborough) set on the car. Its a Sep 2005, metallic blue, Xenons, leather, comfort pack and 17" alloys. 4800 miles on it. Total cost new would be 24145. I paid 19995! That price was non-negotiable but I wasnt complaining. Having checked the BMW website there's lots of 1-series of similar ages all with thousands off. I thought the residuals on this car is rock solid? I queried the price with the dealer (after shaking on it) and he said BMW 'sell these cars at a loss'. What gives? HJ furnish your knowledge on this please? Read more

Is this a BMW site? It looks very much like it.
I've just come across this interesting page from City of Westminster council website:
www.westminster.gov.uk/transportandstreets/parking...m
They are piloting "Bulk Parking Ticket Payment Scheme", whereby companies who get a lot of parking tickets can pay in bulk once per week. Interestingly, they call them "customers" and there are criteries as to who can apply based on average number of tickets they get per week.
I always assumed that a parking ticket was a fine for a parking offense... hmmm... I must've been mistaken.

I thought unloading *was* allowed, unless all the kerbs have three stripes painted on them? I may be out of date, of course....
