Alloy refurbishment - Drb
Hi,

Hope someone can help. I need to respray my alloys as the salt has started to cause the paint to flake off and bubble. Not sure why - didn't think alloys rusted.

Anyway, has anyone done a DIY job of respraying alloys - what spray should I use and where can I get some from.

Any advice appreciated.

Unless you've got all the kit used by the professionals to get back to bare metal and start again, I wouldn't DIY it, even if I felt competent to do so. I would think that any patch repair is going to fail pretty quickly and won't look good. Alloys do corrode, because road salt and other nasties get between the paint (or lacquer) and the metal.

There are plenty of reasonably priced professional places around; a search of the forum will reveal some of them. I recently had my Golf VR6 wheels done at:

It's worth shopping around, as prices do vary between £30ish and £60ish a wheel.
