Apparently, the Police in Birmingham have taken to opening car doors in Birmingham while people are stood waiting at traffic lights and other queues in an anti-crime initiative!
It is a shock tactic, and then they verbally warn you.

I'm sorry, but if this happened to me, there would be merry hell to play! They're now so PC that they have to all the while pick on potential victims instead of potential villains.

Question: I have an Astra 2003 with 'two way intervention' traction control. What does the 'two way intervention' mean. I have asked my local dealer and they weren't sure? Read more

As above but the other way round.

Firstly by reducing engine output, if wheel slip is still detected the appropriate wheel(s) are braked.

Dumb question probably...

I'd bought a replacement for the radio in my daughter's previous Fiesta as a Christmas present. One of those which takes memry cards, USB sticks MP3 CDs, the lot.

Immediately before Christmas she bought a newer Fiesta.

This has a standard Ford radio/tape player. Of course, she wants a CD (they are never happy are they...!).

The Ford radio looks bigger than a regular radio. Is there some way I can use the standard size radio unit I have bought, or do I need to get a Ford specific unit?

Do what I did when the cd part of my 6000 packed up. Get pretty much any 6 disc changer and a Ford adapter for it. MUST be a 6 disc changer though as I found out to my cost.

I've got a pretty good Alpine changer which plugs into this adapter (hidden behind the radio and then into the radio itself. Looks better than the standard Ford changers (not that you'd care with it being in the boot) and has never skipped once despite not being properly fixed in the boot.

The car has done 52K, regularly serviced. I am having difficulty when changing between 2nd and 3rd, sometimes I have to go into neutral clutch up and then into 3rd, other gears apart from 5th are also a little 'notchy'. Linkage or gearbox? Read more

Question BMW 318se
Sarah Davies

I've just bought a Y reg 318se with 88,000 miles on the clock.

It has got full service history but is due a service now and I'm going to use a local garage.

What needs to be done and what should I get him to change just to be on the safe side eg cambelt, brake discs etc.

Any advise is most appreciated as I've booked it in for tomorrow.

Thanks

if its an early E46 they wont remove ur wheels for an ins1...
ins 2 is the works bascially the lot...id say 90k miles is an ins 1 that is if all the previous services have been done correctly. if theres a little symbol on ur dash that looks like a clock.. suspect a bf change:

BF every 2 years.
coolant every 4 years

Well it's eventually arrived having ordered it at the end of September when they were launched, and I have to say, I'm over the moon with it.

Picked it up yesterday, and already covered over 300 miles in it.

We had a look at an altea, and I thought it was very good. The salesman did let on though that they have had a bit of a problem with those wipers that park in the window pillars. Apparently they can pack snow into the recess and then not park properly

Jimmy123

99 1.8 20V, 91000 miles on clock, fully serviced and timing belt kit changed at correct time, no problems untill recent.

I had run the tank down and following this the engine seamed to surge or as if you were braking but only during motorway cruising, seamed OK around town. Decided to get a full service and change fuel filter, but now it is worse? Been thinking of things like: Flow level meter, fuel pump, temperature sender, type problems. There are no warning lights on dash board so I'm stumped? Reluctance to go to dealer dueto cost, but the backstreet boys can run up an equally large bill.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Andrew Moorey (Tune-Up)

Noting the mileage I would plump for lazy Lambda sensor. It wont put up a fault code as it is still operating within its parameter but is cycling slowly which presents a long 'go lean' signal to the ECU which correspondingly wakens off the mixture until it sees an equally long 'go rich' signal which has the effect of giving an acceleration surge and so on. Not noticeable round town. Simple test is to get up to operating temp then, in neutral, raise the revs to 2500 and hold your foot steady. A lazy sensor will show up by cycling the revs independently by as much as +/-500rpm.
