The battery (French make Dauphin) keeps going flat on my 2003 new shape Espace. There are no interior lights on.

I can trickle charge it no problem and the car starts fine for a few days, then the battery goes flat after a couple of days. I have tried to jump start it with no success when the battery is dead.

The battery is 2 1/2 years old, is it likely to have failed? The very cold snap seemed to affect the battery in particular.

I suppose the alternative would be a faulty alternator.

Yes I know it was voted the most unreliable car by JD Power.

I was planning on getting a Bosch battery to replace it, I trust German quality more than French. Read more

You need to get an auto electrican to check it through. Putting a new battery on may not be the solution. You need to fix the cause, not the symptom. There may be something else draining the battery.

If everything's now ok, then nothing. However, it sounds to me like an intermittant fault that *could* reoccur when you least expect it. Sometimes it can be traced to a poor connection between the plug and socket joint. Separate them and spray some switch cleaner on the contacts and reconnect again.

The trouble with car dealers is that up till now, they have been able to supply cars in bulk and with no real hassle for lease companies or car fleets in general. The private motorist is a 'nuisance' to the as they complain, haggle on price and are generally seen as whingers by most car salesmen.
This is gradually changing as the lease/fleet market grows smaller, so I hope this corrects the attitude of the car salesman a bit.
AS a sales guy in the technology industry, I firmly belive that no salesman should be arrogant enough to EXPECT to sell rather than to understand the customers reasons for buying and be grateful for their business !!

Coming home the other day in our 1983 Range Rover ,i noticed that the brake peddal went down further than normal all of the sudden.
I had recently renewed the front brakes so the back was suspect.
Bought new pads for the back, changed back left,no problems, still some wear left, got to the right side, wheel off and to my suprise the inner pad was missing!.
The clips were in place as were the pins, but the pad was gone and the piston was against the disc.
All sorted now but i have never lost a pad before.
How could it fall out ?.

Round The Bend

Reminds me of a golf n' beer break in the 80's. There was big clunk and rattle from under the bonnet of my Mk 1 Astra as I was negotiating a tight bend on the Isle of Wight.

Pulled in half a mile later to find one of the spark plugs missing. My mate trotted back to the bend, found the plug which we reinstalled.

Much to the amusement of friends and family, I'm a bit of a 'nerd' when it comes to MPG calculations and I like to keep a spreadsheet showing my progress. Not only does this give me a clue to the general health of my vehicle but I'm nerdy enough to actually get some entertainment out of manipulating the numbers (stop laughing). For example, i've just plotted a rather interesting graph showing the change in the cost of fuel over three years. What I would like to know is what kind of information you like to extract from your spreadsheet?

Have noticed recently some odd cats eyes on a small DC section of the A339 between Newbury and Basingstoke. They seem to contain flashing white led lights. The effect is quite mesmerising as you drive past them in the dark. Anyone know anything about them?

Ours haven't lit up for months. Long before the clocks went back. I was all for ripping them up thinking they were knackered but after reading these comments I assume they'll magically work again in spring.

I got a iPod (normal one, not a shuffle) as a present this year, and i'd like to use it in the car.

I have a Sony radio cassette c.1997/1998 with 6CD stacker hardwired in the boot. Car is R reg and the R/C is manufacturer standard fit.

I was looking for the simplest solution, which is apparently an adaptor that you insert into the cassette slot. They are also radio / wireless transmitters.

Can anyone please recommend a cheap, simple and effective solution to the above. Cheap and simple because I'm tight and thick!

TIA

Until very recently the majority of ads placed on this site were from well established forum members.

Recently I note that the adverts are starting to come from people who just register to post there "private"? ads.

Is there a Forum policy to promote the growth of passing browsers ie a good place to advertise, hence more clickthro's (more money for the site) or to remain a select site?

I have in the past bought (very happily) thro the classifieds and would again from an established member. Whilst this can never be a guarantee of quality, much can be gleaned from a contributors past posts.

Some sites have a policy that new members cannot advertise items for sale for a period of several months after joining in order to weed out the chancers. How do other people feel?
