hi, i have recently posted my problem about my volvo S60 T5 being very camber sensitive. Well, i have taken it into Volvo and had it laser aligned twice, all the alignment is perfect. The tyres are brand new, (pirelli PZero Rosso), I have also measured the Sub-frame and it is in the perfect position. I'm wondering if it could be an incorrect suspension or steering component fitted. Has anyone got any ideas? Any help is appreciated, Thanks. Read more
Could be worn control arm bushes allowing a wheel to be pulled into a toe-out by camber, also, the profile (shape) of high performance tyres makes it worse. If mechanically sound, adjust the toe to the maximum toe in in the specs, and the camber positive.
If you replace the control arm (wishbone) bushes (or whever Volvo calls them) ensure the bolts are tightened with the car on the ground, full tank of fuel and 70Kg in each passenger seat, otherwise the bushes will be permanently twisted (wound up) and will not be controlling the track correctly.
After being amused/shocked by Adam?s thread about how much his 600cc 8hp Focus consumed (6 mpg if I remember correctly) I?ve been keeping a beady eye on the trip computer of the 3 litre 406. I loaded it to the supension stops with wife, kids and elderly parents and took it to Gdansk for ten days. A total of 794 miles (100 motorway, 150 city and towns and the rest country lanes) and when I parked it in the garage last night it read 31.4 mpg. Not bad, if you consider that my mother-in-law joined us for a few of our daily excursions and she eats two potatoes more than a pig.
I wasn?t light-footed either, did plenty of full-throttle overtakes on the country lanes. It?s easily the most economical car I?ve ever owned and the reason is simple. I never got caught in traffic and my speed always hovered around the magical 56mph mark, there was enough road for all the cars using it and the cities weren?t gridlocked, choked or hampered by deliberately poorly phased lights and such.
I can?t remember how many times I drove the two miles from Blackhorse Road to Asda in Walthamstow and it taking more than an hour. And a million other similar journeys in the South of England, scraping 16 mpg in a 2 litre car that was capable of double that figure. So here?s a thought for all the pansy-faced environMENTALists. More roads might actually be better for your precious environment. As might higher speeds in appropriate places. Explain to me in what way it betters your cause to have us all stuck in first gear. "How can ANYONE hate Poland..."
It?s a love/hate relationship which seems to be stuck in hate at the moment. Mostly non-motoring bureacratic nonsense though.
If you?re serious about meeting up next month Nick, drop me an email, none of this chocolate fudge cake though, I?m only up for serious drinking.
It?s my birthday on the 19th September
My friend has just bought a new Rover, but I was concerned that since the company went bust parts for the car will get hard to find, she says am talking nonsense. Who is right? Read more

Gatwick Taxis used to have a very large fleet of Omegas - does that mean they are reiable?
Gatwick Taxis do not now use Omegas - does that mean they are unreliable?
I dunno.
Silly question,I know......
But how is a fuel filter changed on a 406 HDI diesel?

Excellent.Thanks Mike.
I kinda guessed you had to turn the plastic nut on the top,but didn't want to use a bit of brute force in case I broke anything.
Anyhow,I'll do it first thing in the morning, before I go to work.
I have a June 98 Mondeo Ghia x with a speedo problem. The problem I am getting is the speedo dies and at the same time the low fuel warning lights come on for about a second then goes out. The fuel guage is unaffected and still reads ok, when the speedo starts to work again the low fuel light comes on again for a about a second then goes out. Sometimes the speedo will not work for 10 mins or it can last a day or so then it works fine for a few mins or a few days .
Many Thanks to anyone who can help me with this matter.

Not sure if this helps you or not?

TG going off air for a few weeks and mention of Phil Llewellyn set me thinking - let's design our own motoring programme. You can have any (motoring) subject, any presenter, alive or dead.
I'll start with
driving techniques and anything to do with Honda - LJKS
Motorsport reporting, to cover F1, BTCC, Indy, whatever they do in Oz and generally everything - Tiff Needell (Jason Plato second choice)
News / new cars - James May
Used cars - err Mike Brewer ?
I'll shut up now and leave you take it from there.

Sorry - Its not driven - Its "pulling power" shown last night at 11:40.
It is pure tedium. Mike Rutherford driving a (bog standard) Mitsubishi Lancer.
hello there i got this car about a week ago,its a good car apart from the passenger side door lock dosent work on the central locking, but locks / unlocks manually, the window wont work either from the drivers set of switches or the switch on the door itself, and the door mirror dosent work either, all on the passenger side!!
i have checked all the wiring on the door , connections in the footwell, and under the carpet as well. i found a few dodgy conections under the carpet and i repaired them, but it still dosent work.
any body had the same problem and fixed it?, by the way the window goes up and down sometimes by using the key in the door lock.
cheers for any pointers

not sure mate i never botherd to check!
You can buy crash-damaged cars on e-bay. I'm thinking about buying one with superficial damage for my 18 year old son and fixing it up together. Buyer applies for the V5 apparently. Is this normal? Any insurance implications? Where else could I look for a damaged car?

I did my first crash-damaged car earlier this year. It's a 2001/Y Primera 1.8S with (then) 16k miles. It had minor front end and nearside damage.
nearside doors were £60 ea from a breaker (and already in the right colour). I removed front bumper and made all the angles correct again so that the new bumper would line up.
A pattern bumper was £70 but (strangely) needs some fettling to get the gaps right. s/h headlamp was £70.
I still need a bonnet, but managed to bodge it enough so there was no sharp edges to get it through the MoT. A couple of new tyres were needed as well as there was lots of gouges out of the sidewall. So several hours of time, and about £350-ish on top of the purchase price.
But no airbag damage, no rad damage, car ran fine (was demo'd in the salvage yard) and now been pressed into service.
Although the guy said it was Cat D, it turned out to be unrecorded (don't take the yard's word for it, get the HPi check done yourself so you know whether it's unrecorded, Cat D or Cat C).
Hopefully I can press it into service for 18 months/2 years and it should cost me only a few hundred pounds in depreciation.
Also budget for a major service. Mine came with no background, other than it was a car bought by daddy for little Jane whilst she did her studies at Brunel Uni (loads of reciepts for assignments and stuff still in car) and it looked like it hadn't been serviced from new. The air filter was the blackest one I have ever seen.
I managed to find a blank service book for the model so have started collecting stamps.
If I were doing it DIY, then I'd steer clear of ones that need things like door pillars straightening. My brother is currently trying to do this on a X reg Fiesta and been having some difficultly.
An electronic workshop manual should also have the body jig measurements in it, so obtain one of those on e-bay. It helped me when I was trying to re-align the front end. Also if you have a car with only one part of the front damaged (o/s in my case), you can use the undamaged side as a guide to how it should look, what the panel gaps are etc etc.
Just my little input
IIRC the RR Merlin had a twin stage supercharger and was cooled using glycol (an oil based compound).
I scored 7. Some of my answers were based on ignorance of questions on specifics but I thought some of the general answers were wrong.
I'm not losing any sleep on it as I did not bother reading the blurb at all:-).
