August 2005
I've had a look through some of the previous listings, but there does not appear to be a conclusive answer.
Same symptoms as other listings, pinking under load under 3K.
I've run a can of PowerBoost through it, which seemed to work, but it re-appeared again a few days later.
I've disconnected the battery to clear the ECU memory.
I am not going to waste my money taking it to a Ford dealer.
It has only started about 5K ago. A full service at 120K had no effect.
I would appreciate any further advice

In the middle of may this year purchased a new car from a main dealer, also part exchanged my old car as part of the deal.
upon request I handed in all my vehicle documents including the v5 log book. The saleman assured me that everything would be done as regards informing dvla etc.
A few dats ago I received a letter from the "DVLA continuous registration centre," informing me that on 01/06/05 I was the registered owner of the vehicle and it was untaxed, (when I handed the car into the dealer it had tax on until august) I was told to pay a penalty of £40 and £17,50 arrears tax,
I have contacted the dealer who basically say it my problem, I cannot have a word with the saleman as he is away on holiday.
I have spoken to the dvla they say the saleman should have given me part of the v5 back ,made sure I was aware that I had to send this back to the dvla.
As regards the tax I can only assume it was cashed in early.
not sure if I should pursue this or how I stand,
Any advice would be welcome

They will, but it makes no difference, it is the customer's responsibility to send off the red slip (now yellow I think) from the logbook to notify the DVLA that they have sold the car to a motor trader.
Now then, if the salesman took the whole logbook away then it is most likely that his admin department would have flagged it up when they received the logbook for the used car into the office, if he took it then I would argue that whilst I was technically and legally in the wrong, the salesman didn't do his job properly by bringing that to my attention.
If he did not take the slip away then you don't have a very strong case at all.
I once brought in a part exchange, stuck my signature on the red slip and left it with the customer. Three months later they were in the garage complaining that they had been fined off the DVLA. They swore blind to my manager that I had told them not to bother sending the red slip off and that we would take care of it.
I personally thought it seemed bizarre then that I had signed the slip and left it with them if we were going to take care of it. My manager decided the best course of action was just to refund them the cost of the fine and apologise. I still maintain that I never said that we would take care of the red slip though, if I had, why would I have left it with them?
Good luck getting the dealer to cough up, they may do it from goodwill, which would be nice, but I don't think that they have any obligation.

Hi there folks
Looking for some help if you can.
Does anyone have details of a website that lists fuel (diesel) average costs over the last 2-4 years. Really need to be able to show my company that fuel has gone up considerably and the mileage allowance they are paying is next to useless.
Thanks

Duffelcoat, being the sad anorak I am, I keep a spreadsheet of every time I have put fuel in the tank. For the Saxo (Diesel) this will go back over 4 years if it is of any use to you?
Hmm.
Agreed to buy a car at the weekend from a franchise dealer, signed all the forms, paid the deposit and the dealer phones me up this morning and says "oops, sorry, we've made a mistake and had actually already sold it to someone else who's just come in to pick it up". I was going to pick it up this weekend after they's fixed a few things I pointed out to them.
They've offered me an identical car (bar the colour and 7000 instead of 4500 miles) + 2 years of free servicing (Honda) for the trouble caused. Now, it could be a genuine mistake and I've no reason to believe otherwise (not 100% convinced) but I am rather annoyed this could happen.
Being a long time since I actually bought a car, is this rare and am I getting decent compensation assuming I take the offer? I was told at the time I 'bought' the car a service costs £130 but I took that with a pince of salt and would think it's potentially worth a fair bit more.

Two years free servicing amounts to 2 oil filters an 10
litre of oil to them ,£500 hundred discount or walk away
there are thousands of other cars waiting to be sold.
That's a bit dumb, to be honest.
In most companies, and I'm sure garages are the same, departments charge other for work as if they were ordinary customers. So the sales department will have to pay for the services.
Even if they don't do this, if the OP walks away and buys another Honda elsewhere, then 2 yrs servicing is going to cost the best part of £500 which they're currently being offered for free.
Obviously you should get what you can out of every deal, but even if it did cost the dealer next to nothing, it's still a *real* saving to the customer.
Anyway, the (new) deals been done now.
My 1998 2.1td was, and still is running warmer than usual. I was advised that one of the fans was past its use by date and a new one has been fitted.
Now, as far as I can tell only this fan is coming on and it sounds very noisy.
Please can anyone tell me
1)If both fans should come on together and at what temperature.
2)Or is one fan only for the A/c
3)Do they have two speeds. As the one that is working sounds like it wants to take off.

Thanks for the info. Now at least I know what should be happening.
I recently bought a Renault Clio and after sending off the log book I recieved a letter from DVLA. The letter stated that according to their records the car has been recorded as been scrapped or written off by an insurance company. I now have to arrange to have the car checked by VOSA for them to issue a pass certificate. When I finally get the log, providing its passed it will have accident damaged and/or substantially repaired on it.This will obviously have an effect on the saleability of the car and price.
Has anyone else had dealings with this. I am wondering if DVLA have made a mistake as the car's chassis is straight and only has two bumps on the bonnet. The previous owner said the log book before had no additional info about accidents!
many thanks

When I got my scooby, it was mistakenly registered in my wife's name and not mine and we only realised when the V5C came through.
I wrote to the DVLA and asked them to change it without increasing the number of keepers, which they did, but not before they asked me to confirm the chassis and engine number, from the car itself and not the V5C (which of course I had sent them!).

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
It could well have happened on the way home last night but with it being dark, I never saw it. I've just been out in the car and noticed that all the plastic (handles, sills etc) and glass has weird speckles on. It looked at first as if it had just started raining but the speckles are like glue - quite sticky. It's over the back window too and only after having the screenwash on the front one for about 10 seconds did they fully shift.
Anyone have any ideas at all what they could be?

Thank your lucky stars then it wasn't a kebab passed through the digestive tract of a lager lout!
I was in NW Surrey at the weekend, RF's manor, pulled off the M25 J11 on to St Peters Way, a shortish stretch of dual carriage way that leads from the motorway towards St Peter Hospital (Chertsey) and Ottershaw. I came off the roundabout with a Mercedes going slowish in front and a C2 hard on my bumper, the Mercedes moved to the inside lane though accelerated as I overtook him so I was doing well over 70 when I pulled to the inside at which point the boy racer in the C2 hurtled past, next thing I see is a "50" sign.
Now I lived within a few miles of this bit of road for over 30 years and remember it being built, it was always national speed limit dual carriageway though maust have changed to 50 recently, seems that my apparent familiarity with the road could have caught me out had there been a speed camera/check in place.
Lesson learnt.

I drive on that stretch daily. This stretch of road has been 50 mph limit since at least march this year.
Has anyone got experience of fitting a JVC 45Wx4 CD tuner (or other brand) in place of the OE unit on a Peugeot 106 1.1 XN (late 96 facelift) version or similar trim level model.
The iso cable connectors from the JVC unit look identical to the OE unit, but there are dire warnings in the JVC manual about how certain speaker wiring configurations, eg commonised return speaker wires, will cause serious damage. There is another forbidden speaker wire configuration but I cannot understand the tiny diagrams (can bearly make it out with my eyesight!!).
The car only has 2 speakers for now but I presume that the 2 rear amplifier stages can be left with no speaker connected?
I was also wondering if I am likely to find some redundant rear speaker cables in the loom. Would make life easier if I decide to install a pair of 6x9 speakers on the back shelf later.
Any help is most appreciated.
Thanks

What octane is required for the engine, and what is used? A further point, which may be of interest bearing in mind the mileage done: "A vehicle's octane requirement does not remain constant over its life. As the vehicle ages, octane number requirement (ONR) can increase from 1 to 13 octane numbers due to deposit build up on the intake valves and in the combustion chambers." From Lubrizol.
