Clio 1995, 5 door "Oasis" (=basic).
I have fitted my own rear speakers & cable, but I note that ISO connector under dash also has cables for rear speakers. There is no sign of those cables at back of car, behind trim, under seats etc etc.
So the rear speaker cables must stop at a connector somewhere but I cant find under dash etc. Can anyone suggest where to find the connector that has these cables - eg so that I can connect my speaker wires in neatly?
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I wonder if you have some advice on a slightly odd situation.

I am unexpectedly about to obtain a new car (for complicated and boring reasons) and so find my current trusty 3-door R-reg Rover 200, which I had fully intended to run into the ground, surplus to my requirements.

However, since I had always intended to just keep it until it fell apart, and had no plans that I would ever sell it, I haven't bothered to keep it in good nick cosmetically.
I don't particularly care what my car looks like, and in fact I kinda like it looking rubbish, as then I'm never worried about parking it in dodgy places.

Mechanically it's fine. Rover serivced until it got too old to be worth the money, then looked after at a decent local garage. For me, the car is ideal, and in a perfect world I'd just SORN it and store it away as a sort of spare, but I'm shortly not going to have the room for that. (More boring and complex reasons)

So the question becomes how much work should I do on it before selling it. I'll get it nice and clean, of course (probably a first for this car) but, for example, should I fix the busted stereo? Get the dint out of the wing where a deer tried to headbutt the car? (the deer wasn't hurt, to my relief and astonishment) Replace that rear window washer unit that's never worked right since I had the back door replaced by some Insurance company recommended idiots a few years ago?

I've been umming and awing about this for a while, because it seems such a waste to sell it for peanuts when it's perfectly fine for me (and I suppose I'm a little sentimentally attached to it), but I'm getting the new car whatever I do and so I think it is time to bite the bullet.

Anyhow, any suggestions gratefully recieved. Read more

Whereabouts in the country are you?

I may know of a young learner driver who would be interested.

Otherwise do all the above but stick it on the HJ classifieds!

Happy Blue!

This also happened behind my office and my kitchen extension moved down and out a bit. United Utilities paid up.

95N Micra 80k miles.
Had a front shunt last year, I replaced the appropriate panels and kept on driving. It chugs along OK, brakes and steering seem OK.

It has just failed its MOT and requires quite a lot of work:

1) Nearside rear brake pipe corroded
2) Offside rear brake pipe corroded
3) Front to rear brake pipe corroded
4) Brakes imbalanced
5) Front chassis box section damaged -- requires welding.

6) Advice -- bowed door; door lock not fully engaging.

Total repair cost: £450 + £40 MOT cost.

I have used this garage before; they are pretty honest IMHO.

A few questions:

* Is it worth repairing? I suspect not. I'm thinking about advertising in Auto Trader Accident Damage section. How much might this get me? Any other places to advertise it?

* Item 5) -- the garage reckoned the brakes needed stripping down. Is this a big job?

Its a shame because the engine and gearbox are fine. But it may just prove uneconomical to repair the car. This is no time for emotional ties!

I've sold a Rover 100 in a similar state of repair recently on Ebay and it went for loads more than i thought it was worth so i say stick it on ebay as MOT failure - spares or repair. I would think it should easily get a couple of hundred on there.

I am not normally given to praising insurance companies but had to to say how pleased I am with More Than.

My sister and husband who live overseas have had to return to UK and are staying with us while she receives hospital treatment at a specialist hospital some 20 miles or so from us for the next 6 months.

I can use my company car so I asked More Than what it would cost to put BiL as a named driver on my Civic so he can drive her to hospital and explained the circumstances. He has held a licence since 1956 and is 68 years old.

The answer - Nothing, Nada , Zilch, same excess as SWMBO and myself until the renewal date in January.

Well done More Than -

My question is would I have received the same answer from other insurers?

Any insurance experts out there?

My Mercedes E320 Estate was stolen in April - eventually the insurers Tesco's paid out - but IMHO about £3k less than it would cost to buy an exact replacement - so I've referred the case to the Insurance Ombudsman, who is looking into it. In the meantime I've bought a new car.

Today, out of the blue, the police have called to say the Mercedes has been found. Presuming it's in good nick and the mileage isn't through the roof (it's been found literally up the road) - I'd like to buy it back from the insurance company for the amount they gave me in settlement.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Read more

The other issue is that of keys. One of my staff had their Merc stolen three months ago from outside their house. It was recovered a day or so later minus keys, on a housing estate. Apparently it's a trick used by low life, they dump the car for a day, wait and see if anyone spots it, and if not it's picked up by a "collector".

Although it was undamaged, it has been sitting in the dealership for three months awaiting new locks. Without new locks, it could have been retaken anywhen.

going to look at some tonight good news is they have no tyres so i can see the rims, anything to watch out for that might result in a bad wheel (vibrations)

and also the lacuer is coming off them, how do i fix this myself as i understand its expensive to get someone to do it for you.

even if i don't replace the lacuer and just take the old off, is that ok?

thank you Read more

nope, they are upto £97 with 1 day to go, so i can't afford them.

shame if i had of given him cash for them there and then i would of had a bargin, just getting them sorted and the tyres was more than i could afford

Hi, the clutch failed on my 6 month old Mazda 6 TS2 Diesel after just 6,000 miles ! Mazda reckon its not a warranty job and so I had to part with £560. I'm not best pleased as I've never had a clutch go on me before, not even on the Rover 420 diesel with 80,000 miles on the clock I sold for the Mazda.
I've heard "unofficially" from a dealer that this is a "frequent" occurrence on the new 6, has anyone else had any clutch problems ? Read more

"In times goneby you could change the clutch on a BMC
2200 in an hour " and a Mini in 8 hours.."
and it took them nearly 20 to do
my Mazda6 !

20hrs!! Where they doing it blindfolded :-)
Makes the original £560 charge seem something of a bargain.

I bought a J reg Fiesta 1100 for my daughter to run around in a couple of years ago and it has been virtually trouble free. However she started her new job after finishing university on tuesday and wednesday morning it wouldnt start - grrr. The battery was flat, new 18 months ago but the car stands for long periods and always starts on the button first time, so no major surprise there as it had not previously moved for seven weeks. Charged up overnight and dead again this morning. Turning the key produces no reaction whatsoever, not even the clonk as the starter motor engages but fails to turn. The battery is fully charged and with the headlights on turning the key does not cause them to dim. I havent had time to check anything as I am about to take my daughter to work and then go and earn a crust myself. My initial thought is that the starter motor has either had it or maybe locked itself onto the flywheel ring. I intend to take it off, good therapy if nothing else, and have a look. Any further thoughts, ideas and suggestions would be most welcome. There will come a time when someone else has to worry about these things but that time is not quite yet! Thanks in advance.

Thank you all for your suggestions. It was looking very much like the solenoid but using the screwdriver test, for which many thanks, suggested it was OK. I checked the wiring with battery and bulb and all seemed ok and I was running out of steam. Decided to check the ignition switch. I noticed a small hole drilled in an inconspicuous position and rattling around in the plastic cover was a very small switch. I tried the switch and bingo! It looks like it is an immobiliser switch. There is an alarm fitted under the bonnet which is disconnected but presumably was installed together with the immobiliser, of which I was not aware. In 14 years the switch presumably worked loose and in the process siwtched itself off. I am now an expert in removing the starter motor and polishing up terminals. Strange but true.

So you can now have 90, 115 or 130ps 2.0's or 155ps 2.2 Mondeo diesels, certainly a wide range.

Since the current Mondeo was launched in 2000 Ford have had a lower powered 90ps diesel, though they have only now announced that they will bring it to the UK, why?, where is the competition?, where is the demand?
