A change in a speed limit - cheddar
I was in NW Surrey at the weekend, RF's manor, pulled off the M25 J11 on to St Peters Way, a shortish stretch of dual carriage way that leads from the motorway towards St Peter Hospital (Chertsey) and Ottershaw. I came off the roundabout with a Mercedes going slowish in front and a C2 hard on my bumper, the Mercedes moved to the inside lane though accelerated as I overtook him so I was doing well over 70 when I pulled to the inside at which point the boy racer in the C2 hurtled past, next thing I see is a "50" sign.

Now I lived within a few miles of this bit of road for over 30 years and remember it being built, it was always national speed limit dual carriageway though maust have changed to 50 recently, seems that my apparent familiarity with the road could have caught me out had there been a speed camera/check in place.

Lesson learnt.

Was the '50' a big sign, meaning start of restriction, or a small repeater? Implication being were you entering a limit or already in it, so to speak?

The sign was a small repeater though I guess there must have been a big sign, perhaps on the slip road up to the roundabout.

It changed to 50 about a year ago. Yes there is the required larger sign at the start of the section and the repeaters.

Do take care there. If you turn right at the roundabout and take the second right you end up at the local divisional police garage, where traffic live, unmarked units, the specialist units and as it happens a police canteen.

They love nothing better than getting a pull nearby, its so very handy for "refs"

Hi RF,

I know where you mean re the traffic boys depot, I assume then that the 50 is all the way from The Meads roundabout to St Peters?

Regards.

I drive on that stretch daily. This stretch of road has been 50 mph limit since at least march this year.
