You will have done no harm at all,the other way round is a disaster.A diesel engine will run quite normally on a 25% mix of petrol. You will have the cleanest injectors in town as all these expensive injector cleaners are only petrol.

Can anyone assist with the most economic source of scratch repair?

My son has ridden his bike into a neighbour's Renault Megane, causing a six or seven inch scratch down to the white primer. If it was my car, I'd have a go with touch up paint. As it's not, it's only reasonable to expect a decent job, but I suspect a Renault dealership will charge the earth. Read more

You would have thought that the police had more pressing duties to attend to than this!

Should have prosecuted the parents for causing an obstruction and ejecting a device liable to cause an accident.

Police block M-way to pick up spoiled brat's toy

The toy flew out of the window to land on the central reservation
Police closed a section of the M11 to rescue a girl's soft toy after it flew from the family car in a gust of wind.

Amy Osborn, 10, was returning home to Ramsgate, Kent, from holiday in Essex when her cuddly tiger, Tyrone, escaped through the sunroof.

Her father Simon, who called out Essex Police, said: "One of the officers had children and probably knew the importance of these things."

Police said their action was a "minor inconvenience" to avoid Amy's distress.

The police are obviously very busy ... but I think it's great. It shows their social input and it's something we should be proud of
Simon Osborn

He said the family travelled to the next junction and then turned back to look for the toy.

"It was in the central reservation and there was really not much we could do," he said.

"In desperation, we thought we would call the highway police. They called us when we got home and said they had managed to retrieve the little thing - and popped it in the post for us."

He said the bear had not arrived at the weekend but that Amy - who has owned Tyrone for five years - would be waiting at the door at her home in Ramsgate on Monday.

Mr Osborn added: "The police are obviously very busy and have other things to get on with, but I think it's great.

Road blocked 'for capture'

"It shows their social input and it's something we should be proud of."

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "(Officers) put in a rolling road block for a couple of minutes and so got out safely to capture Tyrone."

Defending the use of police resources, he said: "Any parent would know the distress that their child might suffer from the loss of such a toy.

"It was a minor inconvenience to motorists which I am sure would have been acceptable to all those who have had experienced similar circumstances."

Afternoon all,

Just popped the bonnet on my fiesta to check my oil, heard a creak and then realised that the right hand corner was digging into the panel between bonnet and windscreen. Bonnet looks a fair bit out of line, must've happened when parked overnight.....

So I've had a scan at my haynes re bonnet adjusting, but just wondering how complex/easy this is before I break out the socket set....

Thens it just a case of filling and touching up the area.... Grrr - Cars!!

Also, I purchased a set of Puma alloys off ebay recently and am looking to fit them to my fiesta, anyone got any information on the problems I will face, looks like spacers will be required to get them on, have seen a few fiestas with them but alas not stationery...

Cheers all Read more

After 2 and half years of discomfort I'm looking to swap the unsettling Punto with it's terrible jarring ride. I can predict every pot hole in Bradford on my daily commute! My main priority is a cosseting ride quality. I'm not too bothered if it comes as a trade off for less sharp handling. My previous car was a 1998 Fiesta 1.25 which combined both qualities of supple ride and nimbleness excellently but I am looking for something more spacious. I've drawn up a shortlist comprising 306, Xsara (cheaper) and old shape Megane (cheaper but reliable?) reasoning that the Focus and Astra tend to err on firmness over comfort. If only the BX was still in production! Has anyone experience of this French trio and which would you conside the best choice?
I imagine all three are quite similar with the 306 being first choice.
Thanks Read more

xileno has already mentioned it in passing, but do be aware of late 306s with alloys and low profiles. on good roads the ride is great but on anything else you soon know about it.

if you know every pot hole on your route to work now, you're not going to forget them with some 306s.

Hello Everyone.

A friend of the family had a car accident on wednesday.

He and his wife had minor injuries.

She had bruising fron the seatbelt and he has trauma to the eyes from the airbag.

Someone pulled out in front of them from a minor road onto a main road without looking correctly.

Who will be liable for insurance and paying for the damage.

All help appreciated.

If the cover is fully comp then their own insurers will handle the repair/loss value etc but there will be an excess. This should be claimed back from the third party together with any losses and claims for injuries.

If they have Uninsured loss recovery cover with their policy then the excess, other losses and injury claims will be dealt with by this. Before they do anything else they should check availability of this.

Just to give the benefit of my experience. When I contacted my Uninsured Loss Recovery agent after an accident and advised them I had received an injury, they immediately passed my case onto a specialist solicitor. Your friends should make sure this happens.

Had I not been injured it would have been dealt with by a standard loss adjuster type person. IMO whilst there are some good ones out there, there a many who are just too lazy or under resourced to puruse a case for their client. A relative was rear ended and one such idiot suggested she settle 50/50.

She refused and managed to recover her excess and NCD some 12 months after the accident!

In 20 years of using my 5' x 4' Brenderup trailer, I've never been as stupid or careless as I was last week; I didn't fasten the rear hinged section on properly. Consequently it dropped off in front of chav-boy's Escort behind me. OK, he shouldn't have been so close and he shouldn't have been chatting on his mobile at the time, but apologies to him anyway.

Grateful thanks to the trucker and white van man who created a road-block on opposite sides of the road for a few seconds outside the Bridge House Hotel near Richmond so that I could retrieve the bit that had dropped off, and a slap on the wrist to the sports-bike rider who, unable or unwilling to stop behind the white van, treated the whole scenario as a chicane and scared the wits out of me.

A few years ago i was towing my 'newly serviced by me' 5x3 trailer along my local by-pass. After about 3 miles i noticed the cars behind were hanging back a bit. At the next roundabout, the slowest one on my route, a loud bang occurred followed by the sight of a wheel overtaking my car and disappearing up a grass embankment. I managed to get off the road and spent the next 5 minutes salvaging wheel nuts of the roundabout whilst dodging traffic.
Of course there was the odd motorist who didn't slow down but most people just stopped and laughed. I did too a little later.

I now double check everything's tight and firmly affixed.
