hello there i got this car about a week ago,its a good car apart from the passenger side door lock dosent work on the central locking, but locks / unlocks manually, the window wont work either from the drivers set of switches or the switch on the door itself, and the door mirror dosent work either, all on the passenger side!!
i have checked all the wiring on the door , connections in the footwell, and under the carpet as well. i found a few dodgy conections under the carpet and i repaired them, but it still dosent work.
any body had the same problem and fixed it?, by the way the window goes up and down sometimes by using the key in the door lock.
cheers for any pointers

This sounds very much as if the wiring loom is actually damaged between the body of the car on the "A" post and the door itself. From your description, you have so much not working that it "may" be as simple as just the earth wire broken.
You will probably have to cut into or remove the protective sleeving which can be seen with the door open.

Hope this helps.

hello mate thanks for the reply, i already tested for continuity down all the wires, to no avail, but i just went out and checked the earth wire anyway and its earthed ok.
cheers anyway mate

Good grief!

I think I'll stick with manual doors, while I can -
I'm sure there is more wiring and moving parts in that door than my current car.

well i managed to sort out the lekkie problem, after a bit more work with the multimeter, found that the door control unit was u/s. priced one up at vw and nearly had a heart attack! so dissconected the plug at the unit, took a feed fromn the rear door lock motor, attached it to the passenger door motor, and now the lock works. for the window i found a couple of spare double throw relays and wired em up to the switch, so the main current to the motor was safely switched through the relays and not through the door switch, and hey presto it is working fine and dandy, total cost zero, although the window cant be lowerd from the drivers side, and mirror still doesnt work, i can live with these probs!
so im happy again now, although somebody will probably post a thread and tell me i shouldve forked out and bought a new contoller! go on you know you want to.
oh well just goes to show that a bit of time and patience pays off in the end.or i suppose i couldve paid an auto spark to do it, but thats just throwing money away with a job i was quite happy doing my self.
cheers for the replys i got for this one anyway chaps, nice to know there are still some decent people out there happy to help someone in need of a bit of advice, and im never afraid to ask for advice if im not sure.
cheers
