From FleetNewsNet:
"GERMAN motoring organisation ADAC has gone for British after choosing MG cars for its driver training centre.

The first MG ZRs were delivered this month (March 05) to its centre near Dusseldorf. They will be used to teach drivers the safe way to handle a car on purpose-built handling areas that simulate heavy rain, ice and snow."

Isn't it amazing that elsewhere anyone who bought an MGR in the last 6 mths has been described as 'stupid' yet an organisation in Germany choose MG rather than any of the usual suspects.

Perhaps it's a misprint and they really wanted some cars to train their mechanics on.

Anyone know of a good handsfree kit that could be used in a convertible with the top down.

I hate any kind of earpieces (esp. Bluetooth) so wondered if there was an alternative out there? Read more

Yep, got one of these and it's ideal as I can use it in either car and I don't look like an extra from Star Trek. I reckon it would struggle in a convertible with the top down though - it just about copes with a noisy motorway surface at 70 in a saloon. Definitely available for less than the £80 if you look round for offers.

I'm looking to buy a new shape diesel Vectra for about £7k, what kind of year, model, mileage could i get for this amount, and would it be a lot cheaper at the auctions than a car supermarket. Read more

Forum Air Con
BMDUBYA

Browsing the classifieds in the local paper got me wondering how many cars that are 4 years or older have air con that is fully functional. Personally I have found that with my cars, when the cars reach 4 years, air con 'bits' seem to need replacing, for whatever reason,(or I may be unlucky) and they are not cheap to repair or replace. So I was wondering how many people, who have a car 4 years or older, have fully functioning air con? Read more

For some time I've been of the opinion that UK drivers are paranoid, claiming persecution by all and sundry (both here and overseas) in the form of unfair stealth taxes, speed cameras, parking fines etc. etc.

I read yesterday however that a bill intended to deal with the miscreations of foreign drivers in the UK had run out of time and, to cap it all, a leading car magazine has demonstrated how drivers of foreign registered vehicles are effectively above the law in many respects, there being virtually no enforcement action pursued by the authorities here. Easier money to be made here I suppose!
Perhaps driver attitudes here aren't paranoid after all. Read more

Are there any cheap foriegn 'plates on E-Bay?

Hi, I have an R 98 416 and sometimes when I change gear the gear lever itself shifts fine but the car continues to rev in the previous gear for about a second before changing up.

It does appear to be worse the harder you drive it, any ideas please before I take up the road?

Sorry, yes it is the manual version, the clutch bite is very high but from what I've read on mg rover this is quite normal, altho one or two people have suspected it may be on its way out!

Any idea on cost?

Although not a fan of retro for retros sake, I do like the hard top E-type clues in the rear end. Another nice looking car spoiled by needlessly enormous diameter alloys, though. Read more

Looks OK, but with many so many 'ordinary' cars looking either beautiful or striking, there is, perhaps, nowhere left for the performance coupe designers to go. The new TVR with the bizarre giant exhaust pipes illustrates this point.

Hi Lads
Wife has 94 Fiesta 1.1 Goes a treat, but, she has problems on first start in mornings, fires up straight away with a little throttle, but will not idle until warmed up a bit, this of course is causing her to stall it on several occassions. Took it to a local Ford garage, they worked on it for a couple of hours, and suggested it was due to a dodgey CFI unit, and requested to work on it for a few more hours to investigate FDS. The costs quickly rising, the wife declined.
Can anybody tell us what a CFI unit is? And what is a FDS?
And can one do the job ones self??
Regards
Johnny. Read more

I desperately do not wish to pay a premium price for second rate service, which has been my experience at Citroen main dealers. They do not give a fig about the car.

Can anyone recommend any Citroen independants(car still under warranty)in the Dundee/Perth or Aberdeen/Inverness areas or at a push anywhere else in Scotland (not the Outer Hebrides please)!

Thanks for that, as co-incidence might have it I took the car tp Pedigreed in Forres and picked it up today ,havent yet checked to see if they have overfilled the oil but the price was reasonable (as reasonable as it can be for a glorified oil change and a rubber stamp)and the service friendly and professional.

Still looking for independants though, competition is a good thing.

Question saab 9-5 fumes
gasoil

I looked at a saab 9-5 with view to buy the car when car was running you could smell a breather type smell in the car, like a crank case breather smell, apart from this the car drove and sounded perfect although it has 130,000 miles on, anyone any ideas if it is bad news or not? I know that the 9-5 has a positive crankcase ventalation system but dont know much about it! Read more

I have vague memories of there being a problem with some saab turbo engines. Can't for the life of me remember the details but try posting on saabcentral or similar. I remember a site that had details of the various design changes done to try and fix it, but I cant remember where - try the tech links section of saabcentral.

fwiw, I ran a saab 9000 2.3t (full turbo not the lpt) to 180K with no problems at all, other than a new oil level sensor.
