if your pug doesnt have a keypad , you could hunt the wires for the stop solenoid and byapss it that way. On later models I believe these are serial coded (paired with the ECU), so its not such a simple hack.

1998 Omega MV6 manual, 104k.

Pulled into my local petrol stn after a 150 mile motorway dash (both events being quite common!). Filled up with unleaded. Went to start engine, which normally starts at first flick from warm or cold. It didn't start - lots of spinning of engine (battery OK) but didn't seem to be firing at all.

The area manager for the garage happened to be on site and see what was going on and got annother employee and they pushed the car away from the pump, then he took me home to collect garage phone number and manual (10 mins). Very grateful for that!

Tried again on return, same.

Sat reading Haynes for clues, and trying to call garage for about 5 mins. No luck with either, so tried it again and it burst into life as usual, ticked over fine and got me home successfully.

So the questions...

1) Any opinion as to what may have caused it? I realise I may have flooded it...when it didn't start 1st time I probably pumped the gas a bit too much.

2) Does the computer store causes for not having started, including flooding - and would it be worth having those reasons read? I am off to Frankfurt on Saturday and would like to minimise the risk of breaking down abroad...

Thanks Aprilia. I was happy with the price, more than happy that they were able to attend to the car pronto so my return journey plans were unaffected and happiest of all that the problem is cured. The first couple of Opel dealers we tried had two week waiting lists!

My 9 year old citroen 1.1i ax is behaving as if the choke is out all the time. I haven't made any exact measurements but I suspect the petrol consumption is a bit heavy for an 1100. How does an injection system choke work?

Probably the coolant temperature sensor is kaput - I'd just change it, they will only be a few quid. There might be two, one for the gauge / warning light, the other for the ECU. You might need Haynes to work out which one is which.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

I have an S reg Fiesta Ghia x with a zetec 1.4s engine, started to notice that when I approached junction at low revs the engine would sometimes stall this will occasionally happen when I am in sittting in traffic and the engine is idling it will rev fine for a while and then suddenly revs will drop and either stall or almost stall and then revs go back to a normal level, there is no set pattern either for this sometimes it does it and sometimes not. Car starts fine every time and runs fine in higher revs just seems to have a problem idling totally confused about the cause of this any ideas much appreciated !!. Read more

This is not a good week.My passenger door lock on my 1999 A6 1.8 turbo se has stuck and i can't open the door.
When i operate the unlock button when pressed twice all the doors
open and the boot ( usually )but now all but the passenger door unlocks. The button tries to pop up but doesn't.When i try to manually pull the door lock lever the button pops up but still
the door is locked.
Has anyone else had this problem ?

ive got same car and same issue.
i cured it by giving the lock a good thump - this has happened on all four doors. i guess something is getting caught - possibly the internal foam the put in to reduce noise.

Heard about Auto Express article on foreign cars in the Uk.

I have a house abroad. How easy is it to register a car in France? Read more

Every so often you see lots of foreign plated cars clamped up outside the local university. Looks like local wardens are onto them and go round checking their outstanding list every so often.

The use of Slick is a complete waste of money. The AA said so too.

Can any of you recommend a company in U.K. that supplies the necessary equipment in kit form to kit out a Transit-size van as a mobile workshop used for on-site repair of Ag. equipment.
This needs to include h/d work bench, compressor, welder, shelving etc.

Any suggestions?

TIA Richard

The XJS is in for a service today, and the dealer has given me an X type for the duration.

It's actually quite a horrible little car. To say it's a Mondeo with frilly pants is not true - the ride, sound and general driving experience are all inferior to the Mondeos that I have driven. It's the 2 litre SE auto model, and the engine is noisy, the transmission not good and the ride is very fidgety. It may be the wheels, but they don't look particularly pimped up. There's also an enormous delay between flooring the pedal, the engine deciding which gear it wants to be in, selecting that gear and the car actually moving. There's also very poor visibility for tallish sorts.

I wanted to like the car, especially as I have a Jag. But really, as the introductory model for many people, it's pretty poor. Is this a commonly held opinion, or does one grow to like it?

An interesting snippet. Jaguar has yet to ask any suppliers to
tender for the interior of the next generation X-type, which would
theoretically be due 2009. This is normally the first step, and
if the first step hasn't been taken...

I cannot see Ford wanting to create another small Jaguar of this type as it has been a real headache for them.

While US customers may be happy buying different American brands with basically the same car underneath, they do not expect this in "quality European" vehicles.

My guess is that Jaguar will attempt to diversify their range with more niche vehicles with high profit margins.

I would be very grateful if anyone knows if isolated rear door failure is common, and what might be the likely cause in our 5yr old 1.6 estate - only 38,000m?
Rear doors hardly ever used, I have checked the wires from doorframe to door and they look OK.....any helpful ideas, please? Read more
