to the boot of my wife's Punto which currently has a radio cassette player?
A FIAT replacement CD/radio is £350 plus fitting. I wondered if there was a way that she could get an interchanger fitted linked from the boot and keep the existing radio cassette? Read more
Hi All,
Well not exactly the crime of the century but came out from swimming and found some vandal has written 'Big Wig Car' in permanant marker on the back of my boot lid!
It is a company car and I have rung and got an police incident number but before I put in the hands of the insurers and easy ways of getting it of?
Cheers

Hello,
I know nothing about cars, and I was hoping someone could help me.
The wife needs a new car, just for going around town really - and we are looking at buying a Toyota Corolla, as we have been told it is very reliable, and quite cheap to run.
We have looked at a 5dr, 2000 X , 1.4 VVTi Corolla, in silver. It has Air Con, Electric windows, Power steering, ABS CD etc.
It also has a full service history and has done 25,000 miles.
It's beeing sold by a trader, and he will supposedly accept £3650 as his lowest offer.
Do you think it is worth it, should I buy it? And if not, how much should I pay for it?
(Or do you have any other suggestions for cars in this price range...?)
Many thanks for all your help. Read more
For your application I would buy the Japanese car that is the 'right size'. The Almera probably fits the bill OK. The Primera is a great car, but note that it has quite a large turning circle (as does the Passat) which can be a bit of bind in urban motoring.
Agree that a non-turbo Subaru would be fine - but note that it will be a little heavier on petrol than, say, the Nissan. I wouldn't bother with any turbo'd or 'performance' car - you'll never use it properly.
Buying a 'prestige' brand for 3-mile runs is very much a luxury and could be a bit of bind in the longer run when the higher bills for running costs start to arrive.
Hello
first post and all, just looking for a little advice on what people think to a couple of deals I'm looking at.
I've got a VW Lupo on a 51 to trade. And I'm looking at the VW GT TDI to buy, Dealer OTR price of £19100.
Motorpoint and Motorprovider both have the car as an germany import for about £16000 and have offered me around £3300 for the lupo, I've checked the specs and they both appear to be UK spec cars. To me it looks like a good deal, has anyone had any problems with either of these two companys? and to people in the know is this good deal or not. Has anyone bought a Golf from a car supermarket recently?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, that was basically what i wanted to hear, i'd pretty much decided on motorprovider as they had offered me a better trade in than motorpoint, and motorpoint seemed unsure on the spec of the vehicle. Its good to hear that you've had no problems with yours..
I have recently rebuilt my fiesta 1.1 (1995)hcs engine, it had a broken piston ring and was burning oil, I replaced the piston rings and it seemed to be OK there is no blue smoke from the exhuast and no eggy smell. but the oil is still going somewhere, there seems to be alot of smoke coming from the oil filler cap when I remove it when the engine is running, I guess this indicates excessive blow by, I sort of know the answer to this already I.E. rebuild the engine again properly(this time honing the bores or reboring) but is there anthing else, easier that i could try first? thanks for your help Read more
Biggest problem on these is valve guides.Seen a few with badly worn seals. But guides cause the worst of the oil burning. Also it isnt noticed on a run.It is only noticed on driving behind one changing gear. One reason why driver never sees it.As fast its blown out of exhaust it dissappears before being seen through mirrors..

hi all, i have some unsightly scuffing damage to the bumpers on my v70 has anyone any opinions on a company called chips away who have a local franchise and claim to be much cheaper than the traditional bodyshop any views most appreciated Read more
Yes it's more about the individual than the name they operate under, they did a rubbish job on a car of mine and a great job on my Dad's. I would ask at the Volvo dealer who they use, you could even go round while they're there on whichever half day of the week they go there and do the trade-ins and used Volvos etc....
HI, recently my wife's Corsa has been a bit stubborn to start requiring a few revs rather than just turning the key.
It also emitts quit a cloud of grey smoke.
Any ideas please?

i loike it.
I am asking this question on behalf of my boyfriend. He has just passed his driving test and so is hoping to buy a car at long last.
He was wondering where he stands with regards test driving of any cars which he sees and may wish to buy as he won't have any insurance. Is this going to be a problem?
I could possibly do the test drive for him but obviously it would be more beneficial for him to do it himself as he will be the one driving it at the end of the day.
Will he be ok to test drive without any insurance or is there some sort of procedure for this sort of thing?
Any advice would be great

It was 40 quid for me to get my 1.6 Astra covered for a month for any driver in order to sell it. There are loads of private cars on the market, he's probably better off going for one where it's insured for him to test drive.
As a footnote, when I test drove my (current) car, the dealer just handed me the keys and a set of tradeplates and told me to bring it back in an hour. I was 17 at the time.
I want to buy my friend's mother's Micra. Unfortunately her mother died some time ago and the Micra is being sold by her executor. What do I do re the car registration document? The section to fill in the previous owners name is to be left balnk? Do I need a copy of the death cert? A letter from a solicitor? I know this was covered recently. Thanks Read more
