Just had Harley #1 in the family re-tyred with Metzeler Marathons because everyone I know swears by them for grip and the original factory Dunlops were getting thin after some hard rides these last 12 months. Indeed Dunlops are not renowned for their grip when you lay your baby into the twisties with some degree of enthusiasm, but you always knew exactly how far you could push it. For which I can vouch, having enjoyed some buttock-clenching moments but always coming out the other side with flair and some credible wear on the chicken strips.
But instead of the bike running on rails with the Dunlops as it used to, the front end now seems woolly and vague. When I lay her over in the curves steering has become very light and not like before when if you chose a line and powered through it the bike stayed on it like a train on rails. Pressures are correct and the head bearings have just been replaced plus fork oil changed. Do new tyres need a break-in period? Could this make a difference?
Tom Shaw any ideas? SjB? Anybody? We've got a 1200km run planned for Easter and I don't like the way the bike's behaviour seems to have changed. (Don't tell me go back to Dunlops......I'm an OAP on a limited budget :+( )

Not too bad a job to replace but it will require front panel removal, a daunting job for an amateur DIY'er!

For about 3 weeks now the ABS light has been coming on, along with the red ignition light (i). The 2 lights come on and a buzzer sounds. the ABS stays on permanent and the ignition light flashes. i first thought it might of been a brake pad indicator, but i changed the pads at the week end, and they dont have indicators. can any body help please. I agree that you have a charging fault. Voltage too high or too low.
I am considering buying a Citreon C3 as my next car, probably new given the neglibible difference between the second hand values and the new discounted cost. I'm thinking of 1.4HDi Desire or SX.
However, I have spotted 2 Pluriel's (the open top thingy) for sale locally for £7.5-8k. These are 54 reg, one of them with 548 miles on the clock. I've heard of open top cars being cheap in winter, but this sounds too good to be true!
Is there a problem with Pluriels that makes them this cheap? They are both Sensodrives, does that make a difference?
Or are these ex-demo cars being sold at the worng time of the year?
My plan is to buy a Pluriel, drive it through the summer, sell in August and buy a 55 reg C3 diesel. All sounds about right, but what ovious snag am i missing?
Thanks Read more
Had a chance for a good scout on auto trader.
The car that caught my attention is 54 reg, 1.6 Sensodrive, 548 miles and £7,499. It is at a Citroen Dealer
There are two 53 regs with 16,000 or 18,000 miles, towards the £8,000 mark. There are also some 04 regs 1.4 for £8,500 or £8995. These are at Citroen Dealer too.
I guess the specific question is:
I want (subject to P/X etc) to buy the £7,500 54 reg car, run it through the summer and sell it in August. Bearing in mind the prices of the other cars above, do i stand a chance of getting most of my money back?
Thanks
FWIW, i like the look of the standard hatch too.
Got a small hole in the offside lens of my headlights. Have to get round to replacing it in the near future, but I have two questions:
1. Are the difficult to replace. They seem to be sold as whole units.
2. Seen some on ebay but the ad says they replace either manual or electronic leveling units? What on earth does this mean and how do I find out what mine are??
Thanks

Do you have a thumb wheel inside your car to adjust
the headlamp level?
If so they have 'electronic levelling' - if not they are
manual.
Other way around. If you've got the thumbwheel, then you can manually adjust them. The electronic ones are generally associated with xenon headlights, which have electronic levelling and adjust themselves.
I've checked for a spark on my civic 1.5 and there is a spark. ive also checked the fuel cut off switch and everythings fine. anyone any ideas? Read more
Allan,
Rather than starting a new thread when someone answers a question in your previous one, please try replying in that same thread thatyou have already started.
For reference, I have combined all your current questions regarding your starting problems with your Honda Civic into the first thread that you started today.

Hiya,
recently my car has refused to start properly, it usualy requires no pumping of the accelerator and starts, but on a few times recently has required the use of the accelerator to help it start and maintain idle, should I be worried, is some thing wrong, I remember when i first got the car it suffered from this problem and was cured by a quick dealer fix, is it a software related fault?
any comments would be most helpfull, thanks. Read more

my honda civic 1.5 wont start. it turns over but just wont catch on. i've listened for the fuel pump noise and that comes on. Anyone any ideas what it could be? Read more
Does the starter spin ok but engine doesnt turn over ? Has it been intermittent, happening more and more often ? If so could be similar to what I had on my Civic 1.5LSi. Took it to a Bosch service centre and they fixed it in a day. Faulty control unit, 2hours labour + diagnostics, 225quid. You can locate Bosch service on the net, probably cheaper per hour than Honda. Can recommend a center if you are near E15. Good luck with this.
My Rover 100 is slowly but significantly loosing coolant.
I've checked all the hose connections, made sure the filer-tank top is on correctly and even checked for 'mayonaise' on the oil-filler cap. All seem fine.
Does anyone know of an easy way of finding the leak please?

Fill the system with Ford pink antifreeze. Any leak will quickly show as a pink powdery deposit. (My Focus is at the dealer today for a leak to be cured. I've asked them to clean the antifreeze off the engine when they've finished so that I've got a fresh start at spotting any leaks. It will also help me to determine whether their cure was successful.)

L\'escargot by name, but not by nature.
Im not trying to be a complete kiss-ass (well, may be a bit of one!) but I must say that the people who answer the questions on this board and post comments or recommendations are doing a fine job!
Its the first place I come when I've got a worry about my car - I havent got hundreds to spend on it, have absolutely no idea how it works and get scared stiff at the prospect of going into a garage and handing over the keys!!! The help I got on here about over 2 years ago helped me to choose the car I eventually bought (Mondeo tdi) and I've had minimum trouble with it - after having done 52,000. Obviously, no one on here actually picked the car for me - but the advice I got and the pointers to look out for - helped me find the right car for me.
I don't know what you guys get out of it, I don't know why you do it - but I want to say that Im glad you do and it really helps when I can walk into a garage with more of an idea about what might be going on - or at least come on here afterwards and check I've not been swizzed.
Cheers!

And thats exactly why I get so nervous when going to a garage.
AND another reason why this place is SO important and useful - the reason I started this thread was to emphasise this very point - so that the people who have helped me over the past couple of years would at least know that their efforts are valued - and I see that this is the case for a lot of others too.
I do get the feeling that people on here really do enjoy helping others out - I actually think we should run the country from this very board ... it would be such a touch-feely world with excellent fuel economy !! ;)

Hi G.
Wondered how you've got on?
