What do we know about this car? After much deliberation is am seriously thinking about buying one. I was originally looking at the Fiesta ST and Ibiza FR but one people advice test drove the Clio and loved it? What are other peoples thoughts? Is it the best? Thanks, Tim

If it's anything like the 172 Sport, a truly amazing car. I wouldn't have one myself but only because I dont' like small cars. My mate has a 172 and I have a 1.8 Focus. The acceleration on his makes mine look like it's got the handbrake on.
Great car.

I've never driven a 182, but I have driven a few cooking Clios and several friends have them, so:
1. There are a lot of question marks about Clio reliability and Renault dealers don't have the best reputation. That said, out of seven people I know with Clios, three have bought another Renault to replace theirs and I've not encountered any lemons personally.
2. Don't get one with a sunroof if you can help it - I don't think it's actually standard, but if it is there, it will almost certainly rattle after a while.
3. The Clio's not briliant for space, but then you knew that. I'm with Adam on the small cars thing but if I wanted a small car for back roads but cheaper and more practical than an Elise or similar, the 182 would be at the top of my list.
4. Make sure you get a massive discount. www.broker4cars.co.uk has the Cup at £11,300 or the full 182 (with climate, more colours and extra weight) at £11,675.
5. Hope the insurance is reasonable and have fun.

Insurance is a valid point. He's 19 and got quoted 4 grand. Also, as David said, reliability is questionable.
That being said, his is a 51 plate and he rags it (I mean really really thrashes it) and nothing has gone wrong bar the engine mounts (couple of quid) and some nice flimsy door trims. If I was in the market for one, I wouldn't let that put me off. We're both big lads, I'm a touch bigger than him and as long as there isn't someone in the back the space is fine but that does mean 0 rear legroom and the boot is...well....What boot? As David says though, you know abotu the space - it is a Clio after all.
To echo David, have fun (if you get one). If I had to describe the power for such a small car in one word, it would be phenomenal. And this is coming from someone who isn't Renault's biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination.

Trade Sales in Slough have a 02 reg 172 Sports from £6999 but they dont seem to have any 182's at the mo but watch the motoring section of the telegraph! They used to have a few though!

Edit - er, no they don't... but www.ukcarbroker.co.uk do.

Personally after driving a 172 i don't like the driving position and the slightly offset pedals.
UKcarbroker clio is a pre-reg whereas the broker4cars one is brand new with you as first keeper. Is it worth the difference? only you can decide!

Wife's '98 Clio 1.6 RXE has been fine, no probs with delers either.
While the Clio 182 is great the ST150 is a real looker.
