Hi All,
Well not exactly the crime of the century but came out from swimming and found some vandal has written 'Big Wig Car' in permanant marker on the back of my boot lid!
It is a company car and I have rung and got an police incident number but before I put in the hands of the insurers and easy ways of getting it of?
Cheers

Yes you can get a chemical remover but I would have thought that it would polish out if you are careful maybe?

If you can get hold of it, I know that ethanol dissolves Sharpie markers.

Well I will probally have a trip down to Halfords tomorrow to see what they offer. Wonder if Teecut would help?

I have used this method to remove permanent marking on plastic(can't spell vynal) labels:-
Obtain NON permanent marker and clean cloth
Go over permanent marking with non permanant marker(a bit at a time)
Quickly wipe off with cloth
Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear that someone has took it upon themselves to 'decorate' your car in such a manner, as I know how frustrated I got when someone smashed my window.
Firstly, are you sure its permanent marker? Have you tried the good old method of licking your finger and giving it a good rub. (I assume you have, but just checking)
If it is, I would first try some polishes, like T-cut. Treat the patch they have defaced and see what happens. Because this stuff takes a very fine layer of paint (or lacquer) off, it would probably remove the ink with ease, but having said that, I haven?t tried it on ink before. But don't forget to wax the area when your finished.

Thanks to you all.
I tried water and it did not touch it but just been back out with a damp cloth and some 10 year old polish and the whole lot lifted out so no damage.
Thanks for the advice.

Glad it's sorted, now you need a 5 litre tin of permanant marking paint, find vandal and, er, permanently mark him/her!
|
|
|
You were lucky.
I had heard that the permanenet markers could actually eat its way into the paint, so even if you got it out of the surface, you'll still be faced with a faint mark underneath.
Just think yourself that the little scroat didn't think of using a key rather than the pen!
Anyway 'Big Wig Car' sounds like an excellent alias for this site!

I guess because it only happened between 4 and 5.30pm this afternoon it had not had a chance to do to much damage. Will have to inspect it in daylight tomorrow but it seemed to lift of quite easly.
These people think its fun but when you think how much a claim can push up your insurance premium plus the exess its certainly not fun for the victim :(
Cheers

If they are ever found....
then it would be so tempting to sentence them to having VANDAL written on their forehead with a permanent marker!

Surely it would be better if it was written on their forehead with a branding iron?

The branding iron is for application elsewhere.
