jeez, i bet u lot are sick of me.
what car next is my poll, any chance of having the next weeks poll for me?

i do around 25-40K miles a year
get £300quid a month, 18p a mile. to run a motor.
got wife, 2 kids (8&12)
do usually stuff, hols, kids & friends, football, fishing.
would love a 5 series saloon or tourer.(with saloon i have a large roofbox. is this ok to put on a saloon bmw?)
se or sport?
got around £20K to spend.
or would Audi a4 or a6 be better?
the new a4 auto looks a bit sexy? but is it any bigger than old a4 (it looked smaller than my 320d 03reg sport tourer)
really want 330cd coupe bmw, but suspension is sport on all of them, even se.

want a good driving position, comfy, but got a bit of ooomph when needed. do 70% motorway and 30% a/b roads.
obviously need good mpg. would love auto(lazy) but manual would be better for mpg.

im sure ive asked this before.
but you never know, might get a few different ideas this time round.

an no, not a subaru forester xt please !

For comfort, what about the new Volvo S40, or for more room the bigger version whose name escapes me (V50 ?)

sir_hiss

Judging by the amount of abuse I regulary get, I'm convinced that when driving around in my red volvo 340, other road users (especially white van man) think its being driven by a cloth capped old bloke and act accordingly. Do any of you fellow volvo 340 owners have the same problem? Read more

Hope you spot the slight TIC in this - I thought
you might have spotted it in the previous (old) post!!!

I did spot your earlier post but how would one know you looked like Piero Taruffi if you were wearing a leather helmet and goggles?

Didn't Gonzales wear his hat backwards to indicate that ladies were not his preferred company!!

I have an oil leak from the area of the top of the oil filter housing it does not seem to be the oil pressure switch anyone had this problem and is it expensive to cure Read more

El Dingo

The oil filter sits on a bracket (cast aluminium). The bracket is bolted on to the engine block with three M8 allen head screws. The replacement gasket is part no. 8A-M-360-000 - costs a couple of quid. Looks easy enough, however, you'd need to drain and refill the oil. The filter is accessible by removing the engine under-tray - it's sited at the NS front of the engine.

Sorry, I meant engine code e.g. 1Y, PM, DZ, etc. For example, my old 80-16V was ACE.

My car is the second biggest purchase of my life.
I want it properly looked after.
One aspect of this is that it must have VAG oil 506.01.
Since the car and the oil and the resetting of the computer are so important to me why should I just hand my car over and hope everything is done correctly?
I plan to insist on watching as it is serviced.
Anyone see any problems with this?
Afterall we are no longer in the days of old when any old grease monkey could stick any old oil in and it had no consequences are we? Read more

Oh no! I'd have to choose between getting a lift in a Porch or in a Focus-with-a-lean-to-shed.

Actually, thinking about it ... Adam, did I ever mention that I think the Focus saloon is a masterpiece of design? ;-)

Hi,
My carb 1982 saloon's exhaust has started blowing where the downpipe meets one of the centre silencers at the join. Tried putting putty in/around the gap in the join right next to the clamp, but after a while it starts blowing again.
I have a full second hand exhaust system for the car in good condition, but no garages will fit it and are only interested in selling me a full new system....not surprising I suppose! I would fit the exhaust myself, but it's a bit difficult on a driveway!
Is it worth sticking a second hand system on the car? Would one of these exhaust bandages work on a joint bearing in mind movement/flexing etc?
Mot is looming up soon!

Cheers

Anyone know if it's possible to replace a centre seat lapbelt with a 3-point inertia reel in the middle row of a Mazda MPV?
Would an independant company do it or is it DIY?

Any help appreciated. Read more

After changing the pads on my mk 3 fiesta i have noticed the passenger side caliper piston does not seem to move when i put brake pedal down.

I was wondering if it is seized but i can lever it out with a screwdriver and push back with my hands.

I had this piston out of it's bore completely would this now therefore need to be bleed and hence causing the loss of use?

Many Thanks

Try a caliper repair kit.. a few £s easy to fit. Replacement seals which it contains make all the difference. (I did it to only one side of son's Fiesta as only one in stock and other side was not leaking. No apparent problems in 10k miles since...

Why is it that Peugeot have to insist on having a 'diognostic check' for a handsome price of £55, BEFORE they have started work on your car. I rang up every single one today and they all said the same dispite me saying "I know what the damn problems are with the car, all I need is a new plipper and a new connector under my seat for the airbag!"

So does anyone know a good car electrician in the West Midlands that could help me out please? Read more

Chas{P}

Sadly there isn't a independant dealership around the West >>Midlands, the nearest one I can find is in Leicester. :(

Found in seconds on Yell.com:

Liontech Peugeot & Citroen

Will that do?

I say whack it on Ebay with a good description and a few photo's, start the bidding at a quid with no reserve - let the paying public decide what it's worth

Buying my Coupe has left my wife and I with a couple of interesting issues, namely
1) She says she'd be far too scared to drive it ever (she passed her test 9 years ago, and hasn't driven a car since. Keeps meaning to start again, but hasn't done so yet)
2) I'm not having a great deal of luck selling the Alfa (and again, she's less than enthusiastic to make that her first car

Combined with several occasions recently where it has become clear that her starting to drive herself would be very beneficial, this has led to 'The Plan'.
Being a pretty generous chap (and modest to boot!) I have told her that she can have the Alfa to use as a part x-er for whatever, more sedate, car she decides she would like.
So to the 2001 Corsa 1.2i which we saw last night in a local independant dealer, for £3,695. Seems pretty perfect for her, has the all-important PAS, and a CD-player which she was very much hoping for. She likes the look of the car, and the colour. Am due to have the salesman round to look at the Alfa on Saturday morning, hopefully to offer a respectable amount in return.

So, basically, what I'm asking is:
Does anyone have any experience of this model car, and what can you tell me about it.
Are there other models she should also be considering? (Bear in mind, the Jazz and new shape Fiesta only came out in 02, and are beyond the amount of money she's willing to pay out.) Read more

X reg onward Corsas are wonderful cars, beautifully built, with cheap parts, servicing and insurance. Given that Vauxhall (and Opel) have sold bucket loads, very few appear with problems on this site. The 1.2 engine is quick for its size.
