Got a Y reg Scenic & just bought factory original roofbars off a scrapper (with keys). They are the sort that clip into the trim on the roof. Anyone know how to fit them? Read more

Does anyone know ?

My 1989 CVH MFi has developed a strange noise....it sounds like a belt slipping and is only occassional. After searching for the cause, using stethascope, I can deduce the noise is coming from the cam or distributor. First thoughts were the Release Bearing in the clutch, now I think I know where it's actually from I am totally baffled. Replacing head gasket this weekend as is leaking oil severely from front of head, if anyone has any ideas then pls enlighten me and end my suffering!!!LMAO!

Does anyone know if there are any forums for Legacy owners. I've done a search and come up with 'Scoobynet' but that seems to be dedicated to Imprezzas. Thanks. Read more

My insurance renewal is due in September, and I pay monthly.
If I were to sell the car now and cancel the policy, do I still have to pay the rest of the premium? Read more
read the terms and conditions. It will depend on that.
I always pay up front and my insurer states that in the first year they refund pro-rata less one month, after renewal they will refund pro rata.
I would guess that you will have to pay a bit extra but I can't see that you would need to pay for a whole year.

What's causing my starter motor to fail after only a couple of months? They're expensive to fit as they're tucked away under the driveshaft.

garage did a bench test on the old one, it seemed to be drawing a lot of power as the wire was hot to touch. Suspect the same has hapenned to the new one, but it's only been fitted about 2 months. I supplied my own motor for the garage to fit ( Hella) from GSF which makes it a bit of a bore from the warranty point of view.
Well, work sent me on a bit of a driving day on Monday, I got to drive:-
Fiesta ST, XR2 (E reg), and XR2i (K reg)
Mondeo STTDCi (wow) and Porsche Carrera
New Focus
New Golf
C4
1 Series
New AStra
All the above were driven in 3 seperate stages.
The Fiesta was a fantastic as I was expecting, what suprised me most was that the E reg XR2 drove much better on the rally track than the K reg one.
The ST TDCi was fantastic, so, so powerful, I would have one any day of the week, in 4th gear it outran the Porsche thanks to it's torque, but I suppose if they were both driven properly the Porsche would win.
What suprised me most was our competitor comparisons, naturally the Focus handled superbly, we did slalom tests, sped it round a race track and also did an emergency lane change with professional instrusctors at our sides.
I found the BMW was on a par with the Focus, although I know that it made use of it's ESP once to keep things in line, very nice car though.
C4 was nice enough, and it handled reasonably, although the door handle had already broken on our test car...
Golf, nice handling almost as good as Focus, but the interior was yack.
Anyway, all the above passed the tests fairly competently, now we come to the Astra with it's torsion beam rear suspension. Lovely. I did the emergency lane change through the same cones and at the same speed as the other cars, and the Astra completely lost it, the car was completely out of control and we ended up landing sideways in a bush where all the other cars just continued on...
So, that was my day, quite good fun, and very, very informative, I no longer take the handling of my various Ford's for granted... :-)

Where did you do this day? My FIL is 60 later the year and want to get him a driving 'experience'. Most of them seem really expensive and you only get about 20 minutes driving (Rockingham/Silverstone). Yours sounds much better. Any suggestions?
Having had some success with my radio problem, I wondered whether anybody has the answer to a dashboard display that doesn't want to display! Part of the screen is not functioning, mainly the lower half, so I lose the time etc. Is there an alternative to replacement?

Well, I have learned something new about the number of bulbs!
As Schnitzel suggests it may quite well be a bulb gone - even this may need the display removing but it would be worth trying to get to the display via the radio aperture.
The following from Vectra Sport tells you how to get at the display and repair it.

At the risk of sounding like a male chauvinist - which I am not............
Is it just me?! Every time I read a classified car advert and I come across the phrase 'lady owner' I just immediately lose interest and skip along to the next ad.
My mind fills with things such as the school run, kids with their mucky feet all over the seats, doors getting flung open against other cars/fences/walls etc by careless brats, spilt drinks and food, scuffed wheels and other damage from parking attempts, under bonnet fluid levels that have never seen the light of day etc, etc.
Don't get me wrong, my other half keeps her car nice and is very careful parking it and keeping it maintained etc, (no kids to worry about) but I feel that she is in the minority.
Would the words 'lady owner' reassure you if you were in the market to buy???

A number of years ago my wife drove 10 miles home from work in my car and stormed in the house fuming and protesting that the power steering had failed. When I went out to look I noticed that the nearside alloy was minus its tyre and was a smoking mangled mess. God knows how she managed to drive like this!
She doesn't drive my car anymore! Bye the way, she is on her third rear bumper on her new car in 18 months.

Instead of the (apparently) normal Bora headlights shape, mine have a top "eyelid" which is triangular shaped, the thickest end of which is at the centre of the bonnet and tapering in towards the front wings.
The headlamp itself is shaped to accommodate the "eyelid", instead of the top and bottom of the light being level throughout.
