Hi,

I have created a new website called GiveMPV (www.givempv.com) to help me raise enough money to buy a new MPV for my recently expanded family. The reasons I am doing this are explained on the website. I got the idea from the sites that appeared a couple of years ago from girls in the US that wanted to get rid of their credit card debt (www.savekaryn.com) or have bigger boobs (www.giveboobs.com). Surely this is for a better cause?

I would be grateful to hear what people think and, if you would like to donate to the fund, feel free!)

And I can't see anything useful coming out of this now. I thought it had died a natural death.

Locked.

Hi, I've got an intermittent (groan) problem with my '98 1.9dti Scenic. I don't have a manual - can someone please tell me what the dash warning light second from the right is? Sometimes this comes on, usually when stopped at traffic lights. Then the car runs with very low power, hardly pulling away. Stopping the car and restarting it 'fixes' the problem, for a while.
Any ideas?
Cheers,

Very relieved to say problems now appear to be fixed following a visit to Lawries of Halesowen - they did a brillaint job in identifying and fixing the problems causing the car to go into "limp home mode". They are not a Renault Dealer, but do claim to be "Renault Specialists" - they did the job for a fraction of the cost the dealer quoted (and without a two week wait) - even provided a courtesy car and cleaned mine inside and out - brilliant!!

Sorry if I'm repeating an oft-asked question here - don't have much time before the boss comes back so I can't trawl through the site!

Anyway, my tax is up for renewal on Monday. Unfortunately, my car has just failed the MoT and I've had to spend all the cash I had put to one side for the tax on getting it through the MoT.

My question is - do I have to register it as off road for six days it will take me to get the cash together to tax it? Or can I just wander in to a post office six days late? If I do have to SORN it, then surely it's a whole mountain of paperwork to get it un-SORNed (if there is such a word!).

Thanks for your help folks.

Many thanks, all, for your replies. On balance, I think that I will SORN it as my finances have a nasty habit of going pear shaped at the slightest provocation!

Cheers again.

As some of you know, I have just bought a 1983 XR3i. You've missed out on the micky taking thread by a few days I am afraid!

Courtesy of eBay I received a roadtest of said car done by Autocar and on looking at the test spec it says that the turning circle is 33ft 8in turning left and 34ft dead turning right. Why is this?

I am a real car buff and have never noticed magazines doing this test before. Perhaps testers lives aren't that glamorous after all. Read more

I had an XR3i round about then. It deosn't have 666 in the registration by any chance ? If it does, sorry but I bent it a bit !

At the request of the company concerned, rather than the author of the notes, this thread has been removed.

Thank you,

Seen in Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow, N E London this morning:
A bus and a lorry stopped three or four feet apart, nose to nose, where vehicles parked either side left room for two cars to pass, but NOT two heavy vehicles.
Traffic backed up behind each so no room to reverse.
I am afraid that I got off the motorbike and pushed it past on the pavement and left them to puzzle it out. Read more

Advice needed please. In the past few days I have noticed that when starting my X reg Corsa SXI 1.2 16v from cold the revs seem much higher than before.

Until this week when starting from cold the revs would increase to approx. 2000 rpm and then drop to 900 - 1000 within a few seconds. However, this past week the revs have increased up to 3000 rpm, although they do drop down to 1000 - 1100 within a few seconds. Any ideas what could be causing this and if it is a major problem? Would prefer to get it sorted before it becomes a big problem. I've not noticed it being exceptionally cold the past few days although there have been one or two days of icy windows.

Hi,just looking for other opinions here.I have a 2001 1.9TDi VW Passat (130).Not been too happy overall with the car (build quality wise) but love driving it.Excellent performance and excellent mpg. However, it is now at 58000 miles. In the coming months it is due a timing belt change (£250+),needs at least 2 x tyres and a service.I would also guess the brakes aren't too far away from needing done.I have heard of various horror stories about catalytic converters going and a variety of "common" faults on VW's that I have not yet experienced.I quite fancy the new Vectra and in particular the 2.2 SRi (petrol) model.I do about 15K miles a year, so the diesel/petrol debate isn't so important. What do I do???? Apologies, Wonderwheels - for some reason I'd thought you had had your Passat from new. After a year or two I'd agree that a Vectra or Mondeo would make a lot more sense as no doubt they lose (even) more than the Passat in year 1. I do hope you pick up a good one.

What worries me about buying nearly new or a year or so old is - why did the first owner sell? Tnere are of course plenty of cars that have been run by management of car companies and changed ever 6-12 months, but others that have been hire cars (probably caned) and even more that their owners have disliked.

When my wife and I buy new we expect to keep the car for between two-and-a-half and four years. If we've chopped it in after a year it's been because it was unreliable (Fiat 131 estate) or uncomfortable and flimsy (Peugeot 206, which also has a lethal three-quarter blind spot).

If only there were a way of knowing where a used car has been, how it's been driven and, especially, whether its owners liked it (if they PX-ed it for another of the same make that helps).

I'm considering buying a Citroen C4, but I would be interested to hear if anyone has got one (especially a 2.0 HDi) and if they've had any problems with it.

I was at a dealers on Saturday looking and was rather put off by what I saw:

- one of the rear doors on the demonstrator wouldn't open
- one in the showroom had 2 paint defects where the lacquer had bubbled up
- one that looked like it was prepped for a customer (flowers in the boot) had 3 mechanics crawling all over it doing all manner of things to it - including gluing down the plastic trim on the rear screen with Sikaflex, messing about with fuses whilst cursing and replacing bulbs (all this inside the showroom!)

I've had Citroen's before and they've never been any trouble - at least I've managed to get them off the dealers forecourt before anything has fallen off! Read more

I hope the door problem isn't a continuation of the same problem that has plagued the C5. If so, they obviously haven't sorted out the cause of it.

Well, I've bitten the bullet and ordered a 320d auto, combination of mid life crisis and SWMBO urging me on! (did it a few weeks ago before the press launch)

Delivery has been set for late March - how do I best ensure that I don't get bumped up the list by big fleet customers etc?

Colour is Jet Black, what is the best way to maintain the glossy shine? Is it wax from new or leave it a for bit?

autoglym has no advantage over einszett(megaaa))for durabillity its very good!!!
The only thing is that it is a sealent so when you put it on it seals in the finish that you see!!(doesnt hide imperfections).
Very easy too apply long lasting what more can you ask for!!!

Try it you will like it!!!!!!
