Sorry if I'm repeating an oft-asked question here - don't have much time before the boss comes back so I can't trawl through the site!
Anyway, my tax is up for renewal on Monday. Unfortunately, my car has just failed the MoT and I've had to spend all the cash I had put to one side for the tax on getting it through the MoT.
My question is - do I have to register it as off road for six days it will take me to get the cash together to tax it? Or can I just wander in to a post office six days late? If I do have to SORN it, then surely it's a whole mountain of paperwork to get it un-SORNed (if there is such a word!).
Thanks for your help folks.

I am sure you will be OK so long as you do the tax by the middle of the month.
The "days of grace" don't officially exist but so far as I am aware they don't start chasing until you are a month overdue.

As it appears that you do not know when exactly your motor will be back on the road why not be better safe than sorry.
Go to
tinyurl.com/vsy8
print off and send off.
OR
Bell 0870 2400010 now.
You will then be safe. Re-licensing the vehicle wioll automatically cancel SORN.
Sleep peacefully.

Many thanks, all, for your replies. On balance, I think that I will SORN it as my finances have a nasty habit of going pear shaped at the slightest provocation!
Cheers again.
Regards
TC
