Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help? I'm looking to buy a new 2-litre A3 Tdi Sportback with metallic paint, full leather and 'info kit'. Quotes seem a bit inflexible and are around the £21.5k mark. Obviously demand is high and the car's new so discounts won't be that easily obtained but does anyone know where this model can be had for less? What would be a good price?

Thanks very much... Read more

I've been told by Audi fleet press department that the sportback tdi will be available to order from June for delivery in September. There seems to be a lot of guff talked about the fact that the quattro is not available with DSG on the tdi. Seems a bit odd as the 3.2 has quattro and DSG. Generally Audi are very unhelpful and their salesmen seem to know very little.

I've also been told that the golf tdi 4motion is available to order from Friday but noone can give me any prices.

I only want to buy a car. Why is it so difficult?

The 1.6 Club, is showing up in numbers now, at auction, within the Motability sections.

So if you can live with petrol, you'll be OK for a good choice of low & very low mileage examples, here.Mostly just under 3 yrs old.

It's cursed...a Citroen ZX 1.4 carb. Right, so explain to me what can cause a squealing noise (like rubbing on a window-type sound) when taking off and changing into gear occasionally? It's not the alternator. Today's little jaunt revealed a whole new problem, it's reluctant to accelerate. The engine sort of coughs and spits when you try and the whole car shakes before you get (much slower) acceleration than I know it used to give, and idles for no reason while doing 15 (around town)...I really don't want to take it to a mechanic (it'll cost), and I'd rather get rid of her - but as my first car I couldn't do it when I replaced her, and I'm not keen on doing it now...HELP SOMEONE! Hmmm... well the squealing noise, as mentioned, is no doubt the clutch release bearing.

The lumpy acceleration problem:

Does it happen when hot or cold? If it's doing it when cold the automatic choke could be pulling down too early or sticking. Is it a manual choke or auto? It could also be a fuel delivery problem. Maybe a fuel system cleaner will help, or if you can service the fuel pump, and clean the filter.

Question CR-V Towing?
ptrober

I am moving to the USA soon and am looking at getting a Honda CR-V in order to save costs on moving around the country by renting a trailer. My question is whether there is any difference between the UK and US CR-Vs?

The UK models are specified at 600KG unbraked towing capacity, but up to 1500KG with trailer brakes. The USA brochures and websites for the CR-V however only give one figure: 1500 LBS. This would seem to equate to the 600KG unbraked limit but is it safe to pull up to 1500KG / 3000LBS on a US CR-V if the trailer is double axled with its own braking system? Or are US CR-Vs incapable of pulling as much as the UK (and Australian / Canadian) models?

Many thanks! Read more

My 99V 306 has its front fog lamp dangling in a boss-eyed manner by the bottom mounting screw. The top screw has either dropped out or been removed by the previous keeper. I cannot get my hand behind the bumper to line the upper plastic bracket up with the screw hole. The possibility of getting a socket set or screwdriver behind there seems impossible.
Is taking the bumper off the only way of sorting this?
If it is, is it an easy /1 person job?

Thanks

I don't know if anyone agrees with me but, when first seeing a "gold" coloured Renault Megane Coupe Cabrio (as advertised on the right of the page) about three months ago, it struck me as a particularly stylish bit of kit.

I see the same car fairly regularly and am still very taken with its very elegant bodywork - certainly its rear view is considerably more handsome than the hatchback...:-)

According to the Renault UK website and www.ukcarbroker.co.uk (who I can recommend) the 2.0 165hp turbo version is now available.

My 203,000 mile ZX has begun to weep power steering fluid from one side. Can anyone tell me whether the rack can be reconditioned, and what sort of a job it is to replace it? Would any second-hand ZX rack fit? Read more

Insect

Thanks for your advice. Looks like an exchange rack will be the best bet. I'll have a word with my local garage (I'm in Shropshire) and see when they can fit it in.

Got an X reg 2000 Focus 1.8 Zetec which is having problems when starting from cold. It turns over fine and usually "Catches" after about a second but it only stutters into life, ie not cleanly like most other cars do if that makes sense.
It's almost like the cold start enrichment isn't coming in properly, once it's caught and stutered for a second or so on the point of stalling it then runs perfectly, and starts fine again later in the day.
Anybody got any ideas ? Read more

I?m about to buy a second hand car. My budget is £7-8k max. What I want is a Mondeo sized diesel car. Anybody got any recommendations? I want something which is reliable economical and reasonably good to drive as I do quite a few miles per year. The lower the miles on the clock the better also! Read more

When I wanted a Mondeo sized car I looked at all the cars in the class and chose what I thought was the best of the bunch - the Mondeo :)

Would someone explain why it's more dangerous to eat an apple whilst driving than to smoke cigarettes? (News report today of woman fined £160 for eating apple - (filmed from police helicopter, evidently - now there's a sensible use of taxpayer's money...)

If anything, it serves to highlight the law to millions of readers. Let's have some high profile cases of people being fined for driving with foglights on in the clear, or having a headlight bulb out. Unfortunately until there are more police back on the roads, we'll have to make do with the occasional headline rather than continued gentle policing of the masses.

Conditioning has made most drivers completely unaware of the risks associated with driving. Every apple eater, mobile phone user and tailgater should be made to attend an RTA. In fact they aren't even called "accidents" anymore are they?
