January 2005
I saw some very scary footage on TV news tonight of a Ford Focus which had been in collision with a Police 4X4. Looked like a Landcruiser. Happened near Gatwick.
The Focus was a complete wreck, the woman driver was killed instantly. The 4X4 had a corrugated bonnet but the police driver was 'shaken but unhurt'.
I have been considering buying a Focus, having driven one as a hire car and been very impressed. I am sure that from a safety point of view it is as good as any car in it's class, but this footage scared me.
I will now seriously consider joining 'the big boys'. My family's safety is more important than the extra expense.
Regards DougB.

That's a very informative post, thanks for sharing! I've heard a lot about this car auction in my college and now I'm focusing on writing my papers. I had lots of trouble with them a short while ago and it was extremely tough for me to art something on my own. I needed something to obtain ideas from and be able to I suddenly identified this cool site www.nursingpaper.com/examples/active-euthanasia/ with diverse nursing samples from real specialists! I chose the kind I needed and soon I realized that this was the perfect solution, as I got a stellar paper and submitted it just on time! Read more
Hi All,
We have just bought a Renault Scenic 1.6 dynamic from Motorhouse2000 (Uk Prereg car with 15 miles on clock) which we are looking foward to picking up on Thursday.
On reading the Renault literature and the website I am suprised to see the the 'Renault Roadside Assistance' operated by the AA has a nasty clause in it.
Cars registered after March 2004 will be only covered for mechanical failure or manufacturing faults. Breakdowns caused by lossed keys, locked in keys, Running out of Petrol, Puncture (Changing wheel) are not covered. They will still attend but will be charged by user. On the website is says call out is £95.
Of course they sell you a 'Renault for you Non Incidident cover' for £50 which covers you for the above problems but thought its a poor show for Renault to charge for this.
Do other manufactures have this clause? I mean if my Wife gets a flat tyre on a motorway I think this should be covered in standard breakdown cover. I just wondered how many new Renault owners were aware of this?
Cheers

Thanks for all your replies!
1) Is it unreasonable to expect reneult to come to your rescue if you run out of fuel? Well I agree you have to be stupid to do that but if you do it in a citroen or Nissan or buy cover from Greenflag, RAC, GEM etc etc then yes they will come out if you run out of fuel.
2) Is it reasonable for Renault Assitance to charge you if you have a flat tyre! Well NO I dont think that is reasonable. I would not expect my Wife with 2 young kids in the back to be messing around on the hard shoulder of the M5 trying to change a tyre! I would feel much happier with the AA doing that (With Their nice bright van parked behind with Amber lights flashing) in the hope this will prevent my family being wiped out by a lorry straying in to the hard shoulder.
I guess £50 which is what Renault quote to upgrade your AA cover for 3 years is not bad really but I think everyone should make the upgrade as most call outs would be for lost keys, puntures etc. I wonder if over car manufacturing will start doing the same?
Just my thoughts.
Kind Regards
Jlo
Hello everyone, my sister is thinking of selling her Micra (once the throttle body is fixed), and i was wondering how much users on this forum thinks its worth. The car is a 1994 L, Nissan Micra 1.3LX, its three door, silver metallic, 85000 miles, its been very well looked after by my sister (sadly she has lost most of the service history in the house move). Its had - 4 new tyres, regular services, synthetic oil changes every 5 months or 5000 miles (which ever comes soonest), its recently had the rear of the car professionally resprayed (paint was slightly faded), the interior is always clean (i used to be a professional valet), its had the known micra problems fixed - including the front cross member, and its just had the original gearbox reconditioned and a new clutch fitted (both have 11 months warranty left), and the car has september 05 mot, and june tax. she has set her sights on a T-reg Clio hence the sale of the Micra. So the question is, how much do you think this car is worth???
P.S. if anybody has a 1998 onwards Clio for sale please let me know, and many thanks in advance for any responses :-) Read more
The other thing going againt your sister is the lack of documented service history. When it comes to price, most buyers will assume the car hasn't got a service history if there isn't a stamped service record or receipts.

LONDON : Britain's motor industry risks being fined heavily after admitting that all car manufacturers may have colluded to share sensitive British sales data for more than 20 years, a newspaper reported.
......
The society fears that if the sharing of predicted sales figures is illegal, it could be linked to the historical price inequality between prices for cars in Britain and the rest of Europe, the paper said.
This could leave the industry open to compensation claims from every person who bought a car during the past two decades.
I bet the (no win no fee) lawers are rubbing their hands

I have never understood why the British seem to demand a higher specification and, as a result, why 'imports' are regarded as being inferior (almost to the extent of considering them to be built to an inferior standard)
Odd question I know but went to Belgium/France this weekend to stock up on cigars and wine and on the way back there were an inredible number of foreign trucks on the motorway. In fact from M25/M1 junction today we got to Milton Keynes before we spotted an English truck (McFarlane of Leeds) among the hundred or so foreign trucks. Most of these were from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovenia odd one or two from Bulgaria and Romania. One or two also from Slovakia. Wife and I were trying to think what the trucks could contain and couldn't come up with much at all except pickled gherkins from Poland!!
Any suggestions? (And don't say illegal immigrants!!)

I think DavidHM has got it right. Only the other week my SIL who is an HGV driver was complaining bitterly that the East Europeans are putting many hauliers out of business, as we are unable to compete against them in wages, taxes and other factors which make them so much cheaper. He said they weren't regulated as much as our own companies and there wasn't a level playing field in this industry.
Incidentally he does some driving for Eddie Stobart and alhough the name is still on the vehicles its no longer owned by the Stobarts.
I have just received the folowing email purporting to be from an ebay seller (DO NOT FOLLOW UP THE LINK):-
Hello,
Are you still interested in purchasing my item ?
To view the item, go to: (Link removed at Badger's request)
Thank you,
aldenjl
This is a change form the usual "please update your ID and password" stuff but the link takes you to a fake email log-in page the completion of which will no doubt clean out your bank account.
I am not watching any items at present and have expressed no interest to anyone. The username shown in the email is not a registered ebay member.
I use Firefox with the SpoofStick spoof site detection extension installed. Not conclusive, but it helps. It confirms that the IP of the supposed ebay login page is in fact 24.20.111.214 -- not ebay. The URL is actually htttp://24.20.111.214/.a/Sign In.htm .

Evesham?
I have (my girlfriends) a 2002 Saxo 1.1 which was involved in a head on accident about a month ago.
There is no insurance claim as the other driver bailed.
She has been told to scrap it, but it's still on the driveway, lowering the tone of the neighbourhood.
The front is unusable (I think) as is the drivers door. All the other doors are in good condition and it had only done 17000 miles so the interior is still in good nick, as was the outside of the car.
What is the best way to get value out of it? There has been a man round who offered £200, which we refused.
I've taken a few bits off and we're planning on selling them on ebay (wing mirrors, rear lights etc) But how much can we realistically sell it to a breaker for and how should we go about doing it?

I've just found this on the MIB website (www.mib.org.uk)
"Your claim should be directed to the insurers of the [other] vehicle as, even though the policy may exclude the driver, the insurer's statutory obligations under the Road Traffic Act 1988, Section 151 should require the insurer to deal with your claim.
However, if the insurer rejects your claim you should complete an application form for a claim under the "Uninsured Drivers" Agreement and forward it to MIB, together with copies of the correspondence with the owners of the vehicle and the insurer."
There is a well known software hack on certain brand of mobile phone (inappropriate to go into detail) which will allegedly allow the telephone to alert the bearer of the phone to the imminent presence of radar devices such as speed detection cameras.
Has anyone tried this and found it successful?
Have tried a couple of forum searches as this has been rumoured / known for some time, I could not locate any previous reference to anything similar.

By way of an afterthought, this hoax has been around for some time but you can now get satellite navigation software for some mobile phones. Presumably this could have speed camera locations added. That's not the same as a phone radar detector though!
Rather than go abroad this summer, we've decided to have a week or so touring Scotland. We had a few days around Loch Lomand and the Trossachs a couple of years ago and it was superb. This time, I'm thinking that we should drive up much further into the Highlands. Does anyone have any recommendations for any really scenic routes?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks anyway - we would happily do that area again, but probably for a long weekend as we're only a couple of hours from Scotland.

I feel desperately sorry for the family of the driver that was killed......
It would be very interesting to see if the judgement had been the same for a civilian driver....it certianly doesn't sound as though use of siren and lights was justified, jumping a red light definety not!!!
