So you think it reasonable for Renault to rescue you when you run out of Petrol?
On face value no, though I suppose it rather depends on what other manufacturers roadside assistance covers, i.e. comparing like for like.

Neither reasonable nor unreasonable per se. It depends entirely on what they lead me to believe when doing the deal - It would simply have been part of the attractiveness or otherwise of the deal.

The Citroen Scheme excluded diesel about 5 years ago However a friend, on the autoroute approaching Calais, was advised by then French call out mechanic that the 806 gauges were very unreliable and that call out would be logged as faulty instrumentation. He provided a gallon of diesel (presumably privately) at the forecourt rate and picked up nice large tip.
A nice little (corrupt) earner for the mechanic.

The unwary could be led to expect it, since this is plugged as AA assistance through Renault. However yer gets what yer pays (or don't pay) for. If it's cheaper, look for the snag.

To be fair, this assistance used to be very comprehensive, including accident recovery, and was advertised as a benefit of Renault ownership.
I note on the Renault web site it still states
" Help when you need it
A 24 hour Freephone number
Help where you need it
At the roadside and at home
Solutions to your problems
From operators trained to help people
Peace of mind
Renault Assistance covers interruptions to your journey, such as running out of fuel"
It also states for full terms and conditions contact the AA, (so i assume its on AA T&C's)
I wonder if this problem stems from the fact it might be an import and therefore only gets 1 year cover rather than three?

Tut, tut. Such language. I hope you are going to summon a moderator, RF.

"AA membership" via a manufacturer deal is not always the same as what "real" AA membership buys you. It may also have some other funnies I found Saab assistance (which is AA based) would only provide a replacement car if you broke down away from home.
I guess this may to some extent depend on the finances behind the deal, I know for eaxample that AA cover for my company car is on the basis that the AA handle the call but then charge the company for the work done.

Thanks for all your replies!
1) Is it unreasonable to expect reneult to come to your rescue if you run out of fuel? Well I agree you have to be stupid to do that but if you do it in a citroen or Nissan or buy cover from Greenflag, RAC, GEM etc etc then yes they will come out if you run out of fuel.
2) Is it reasonable for Renault Assitance to charge you if you have a flat tyre! Well NO I dont think that is reasonable. I would not expect my Wife with 2 young kids in the back to be messing around on the hard shoulder of the M5 trying to change a tyre! I would feel much happier with the AA doing that (With Their nice bright van parked behind with Amber lights flashing) in the hope this will prevent my family being wiped out by a lorry straying in to the hard shoulder.
I guess £50 which is what Renault quote to upgrade your AA cover for 3 years is not bad really but I think everyone should make the upgrade as most call outs would be for lost keys, puntures etc. I wonder if over car manufacturing will start doing the same?
Just my thoughts.
Kind Regards
Jlo
