Anyone here got an opinion on these? They're quite expensive but are they worth it? I'm wondering whether to put them as an option on the new car... Read more

Dabby

Thanks everyone for responding, I'll be adding them to the options list I think. I also saw an article in a German magazine testing the standard halogen against the xenon lamps for about 50 different cars - the VW Touran (which is what I am going to order) came out tops of all manufacturers for the wenon headlamps.

I have 2 cars with electric mirrors and at least 4 spiders. They make webs from all 4 housings to nearest door, every night. I tried hoovering them out but no luck. Any ideas which don't involve a complete strip down? Read more

I've rarely been without least one spider using a door mirror as home - got to admire their ingenuity in keeping warm and safe even at 70mph..:-)

Question Daewoo Matiz
John24

My sister-in-law has just purchased a two year old Matiz, but has been told by the local agent that the 3 year free servicing and warranty offer only applies to the first owner. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Read more

StephenC

I should make it clear that the transferable servicing is not retrospective, so only cars bought in the last year or so qualify..

Hi There

I hope someone can help, I have lost my keys to our Renault 19 Prima 1994 need to know what I can do get replacement keys. I have bought the car 2nd hadn and has had about 2-3 owners before me.

I am at a total lost to what my options are, I have all the original books so might try contact the dealer but I am not sure if the key number is written in the manual (of course the manuals are sitting in my cubby hole in the car.

Is there any way to get replacements keys?

Thanks for your help

I had my keys for my clio stolen. Took it to a renault main dealer by the medium of a tow rope after breaking a quarter light for access then removing ignition to get past steering lock. Took my V5 and driving license as proof of ownership. They found the cars details via chassis number then 14 days and £140 +vat later I had 1 key coded to the car. Try ringing around a few dealers as I found price per key ranged from 140 to 250. The second key if you want one is about 35.

Does anyone know whether a car requires 4 or 5 legal tyres to pass an MOT?

I'd assume it's 5 since you're required to have a legal spare when driving on the road, but then the MOT walk-through in the Haynes manuals makes no mention of checking the spare.

Reason I ask is that my girlfriend recently had a new front tyre fitted to her Fiesta. The other front tyre was almost down to the limit, so she asked the garage to swap it with the spare (plenty of tread). They told her the spare was unserviceable, and sold her a new tyre. They let her take it away, and I can't see anything wrong with it - original spare (Pirelli 2000) and looks like it's done 100 miles at most.

She's never had a puncture in the 2-3 years she's had it. So does logic say that if the spare wasn't legal, then it would have failed the last MOT?

I agree, my 'spare', if fitted, would not conform to the regulations as it is of a different size. But sat in the boot It's ok.

One for thos of you who know how brake warning systems/fault code readers work.

Have a 98R Passat 20V which has occasionally been displaying warning lights/sounding buzzers for the ABS (orange light) and the whole brake system (red light).

I've had the ABS and the brakes emergency checked and there's no problem (that was obvious from driving - no increase in pedal effort, no reduction in ABS sensitivity). Local spannerman thought it might be dirty sensors and cleaned them, but the fault returned. Independent VW garage ran a fault code reader but couldn't find any fault with the warning system.

These warnings sound regularly and while the ABS warning will go with a simple dab of the brakes, the main brake warning keeps coming back unless you pull over, switch off and then start again.

Anyone got any idea what the problem might be and what the (cost effective) solution is? I've just spent useful sums of money having both the cambelt and the head gasket changed (it's a 20 valver!) so I'm not looking for another big bill. Read more

Thanks for this information. Having found the connection for the ABS sensor (just behind the rubber grommet in the wheelarches) tested both sides with the meter and found no voltage output from the nearside front.

After removing the sensor and cleaning off the accumulated crud, problem solved.

Cheers.

Hi all,

Would a Seat Leon 20v SE 1.8 automatic be a good buy for £7800, low mileage <15K just about 15 months old?

Hi

my picasso has no internal heat ....the matrix is cold,
when the engine has been running for 15 mins i get the radiator cooling fans come on with two blips on the temp display gauge and then 2 mins later the dashbord display tells me to switch off because the engine is overtemp when all blips on the gauge are lit...at this point the top hose to the rad is solid and hot but the bottom is cold...

i do not appear to be losing water

i have been to a couple of citroen "experts" who have put their diagnostics on it and they tell me there is no electrical fault being logged....

any ideas guys ?

Peter D is correct. You have combustion gasses pressurising the cooling system. Take my advice and *do not drive the car* - in fact, *don't run the engine again*. Get it trailered to a garage and get them to pull the head. If you run the car you risk warping/cracking the head, blowing water pump seals etc.
