The wife has a V reg 1.4RT clio 45,000 miles....owned it 2 years..purchased from main dealer..in that time head gasket went...£350 and then lamda sensor (£140 inc fitting).the washers have packed up it needs 2 front tyres and a major service...I want rid...want to buy a 'new' car..
weve narrowed it down to these:
..wife likes new clio.......nooooo...quoted 5 door 1.2..£7999 ours plus £5700..i thinks its dated
Yaris blue 1.0 litre..5 door.... £7995 ours plus £6200..nice drive but...not much part ex on the clio
Mitsubishi Colt black 1124cc 5 door £7999 ours plus £5350...3 cylinder engine, slightly noisy ...best part ex..offering us £2650
These arent internet prices, local dealers.. and I simply want the convenience of chopping it in..and having a local dealer.I cant sell it privately without washers working, new tyres and the service book stamped so part ex ..if i spent the money I may get £3200 private...so the Mitsubishi appeals..anyone recommend anything else Read more
The heater on our 1992 1.1 Metro has stopped working effectively. Even if it is turned on full heat (after the engine has warmed up) it still blows out cold air.
I've tried flushing the radiator/engine and refilling. I thought it was strange that it only took approx 2.5ltrs to refill - despite the manual giving a capacity of 4.5ltrs.
Any ideas? Is the heater matrix blocked? Should I try and force water through the heater inlet/outlet to clear it?
Thanks Read more
It's true about bleeding this vehicle- it's an absolute pig to do. The test is torun the engine until hot and feel the heater hoses. If one is hotand the other cold then you know you've got either a blockage or an airlock. Also, check the sliders are opening the flapto let hot air in. Remember also that the Metro heater is not air fed- you must switch the blower on to get air in. If either ofthe heater hoses are cold then I would suggest taking the hose off when its got cold and letting the air out. Good idea is to take off the bottom one to see if the water runs out.
Hope this helps

Does anyone know of either a car magazine or a website that comprehensively lists the essential data we may actually need - i.e. 30-50, 50-70, 30-70? 0-60 is a nice enough figure, but it's a rare treat to have that much open space...it's these overtaking times that really mark out a car's performance, wouldn't you agree? My trusty fiesta has started doing something a bit worrying. The steering is very stiff, in fact so stiff that if I let go of the wheel when going round a corner, it doesn't straighten up. It's just been for it's MOT a couple of weeks ago and passed with flying colours so I can only assume it's nothing too serious ? Any ideas ? Read more
Good point about UJ.Their are two types though. one is steel. The other is rubber flexi. Flexi type failed a lot faster than steel UJ.Not sure which you have but a good bet it is.correct me if wrong??

Partly inspired by the mention of a new TV program involving old routes between places, I was wondering if people know (and would be prepared to share!) of more relaxing routes which run near to more hectic routes.
As a starter;
When I have time, I prefer to use the B4100 instead of the M42 north of Oxford. IIRC, it used to be the A41, and is mostly deserted. Perfect, stress-free progress!

my favourite is to drive from Basingstoke towards Dorchester via Salisbury along the A303/A30/A354 etc as opposed to the M3/A31.
To get to this route youy must deviate a little from what the maps/signs initially say: heading SW you must come off the A303 just after the first filling station and heading NE you mut turn right at Lopcombe Corner where the A343 peels off: but on this route you can break your journey in the beautiful town of Stockbridge, the only place I know where you can feed duck AND trout on the High Street!

What are the roads like down this part of France in late June / early July? I have memories of a tortuous roads from Digne to Grasse 30 years ago, also a nose to tail crawl along the south coast around Nice / Cannes. Read more
Go up and onto the mountain roads along the south coast - great fun and some wonderful scenery.
However, even being stuck in a traffic jam along the main coast road around Cannes, Monaco and Nice is supremely preferable to being on the M6 on a Friday afternoon....:-)

Emergency key Access code.is not on the log book..Should be supplied on seperate card like the code for radio.Ps eka only disables immobiliser..using the key to lock/unlock still opperates the alarm..Cannot answer how to match..I thought that was MD option only..Can only say if blip/remote battery is replaced needs up to 6 presses to activate.Apart from rest have no idea

Some sort of reservoir on my Phase 1 Laguna. It sits behind the offside headlight next to the screenwash. There's a pipe that connects to the back ot the engine, and a couple of either switches or sensors.
Also , might have overfilled at oil change - does this matter too much? Read more
Would anyone be able to help me with regards to changing the head gasket? My cars done 135,000 miles now but its now starting to drink about a litre of water every few days so I would think its the head gasket.Ive changed HG,s on SOHC engines but not on the DOHC type.Would I be able to take the head off without removing the inlet and exhaust manifold???Is it possible to get to the head bolts without removing the camshafts as I've heard on the ecotech engine the head bolts are underneath the cams????
If so is it easy enough to do this???Would you recomend using a tomic gasket to do the job???anybody know any of the answers to these questions I would appreciate it Read more
So where is the water going if i'm not loosing it
externally?
Out through the exhaust pipe I expect. The head gasket could have failed internally between one of the cylinders and the cooling jacket. To quote another BR member (aprilla) "Ask the garage to test the coolant system for hydrocarbons (HC) - they should show up on the 4-gas analyser."
I'm having problems with my imobiliser key fob. It has become some what tempremental, sometimes working sometimes not. Ford guys say buy a new one the battery is fine, cost £50 + £50 programming fee, what a rip off. Any one know an alternate (legal) option Read more
As suggested above ,if you have 2 working keys then you can program a new key yourself by following instructions in handbook. The only problem might be if you have a "fleet" model with prevents you doing this other than by Ford diag system.

That'll be you in the doog house then....Oh dear.
