frostbite

It could well be that everyone else knows this page, but I've only just found it - CH4 p.532.

There's some interesting stuff on there, e.g. petrol in the UK in 2003 was the cheapest in Europe - before tax.

Two eyewitness accounts of an accident can make you wonder about history. Read more

Bit out of date now- French price of diesel quoted at .87 euros/litre (same as June) yet last week in France I was struck by how much it had gone up since summer as cheapest I could find was 94.9 (supermarket) Belgium quoted as .80 but we went into Belgium and didn't bother to fill up because it was the same price as in France.

Hi Chaps,
A quick question, a simple one i know.
I have been asked to change the fuel filter on a Ford Explorer (4ltr V6, Cologne engine).
I haven't actually seen the vehicle yet so can anyone tell me where exactly i will find the fuel filter ?
Any answers appreciated.

Question Audi 80 camber
Peasant

Hi, where do you set the camber on 91 audi 80 non quattro?
There is a good deal of play in the hub carrier to strut mounting bolts when loosened, do you just tighten in the "middle" of the play and adjust camber using the slotted bolts at the balljoint?

Grateful for any help.
thanks,

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the help.
I recently replaced the track rod ends, greased them up good.
Apparently some guys put a cut up bicycle tube over the arm, plenty of grease inside, cable ties either end. I am not that conscientious!
Have new balljoints as well, I'll bang them before getting the camber / tracking checked.

Again, Ta for help.

Speaks for itself really. They may be able to salvage something from the horrible disaster they're about to sell.

On the BBC South local TV news last night.

Cranfield Inst of Technology have developed a diesel Motorcycle for sale to the US military. First order for 500 has been agreed.

Not a great performer (85mph max) but main bonus is said to be commonality of fuel with other vehicles and simplicity and extra fuel economy.

Wonder if the technology it will make it into the mainstream
consumer market?

The requirement for a diesel motorbike for the UK army is driven by logistics and safety.

If all vehicles/generators/plant + bikes are to be diesel then there is no need to supply petrol for military operations; and of course diesel is less volatile than petrol.

Good morning all,

When I was getting petrol before, I noticed that diesel, at this particular garage was 89.?p a litre and petrol was 'only' 85.?p a litre.

Not really a question but I thought diesel would always be cheaper than petrol.

How long do you think it will be before we see £1 a litre?

Eventually LPG will undoubteldy be taxed the same as petrol, so will cost the same.

Peugeot 106 XL(1.5 diesel, 1997)Oil and Temp Warning Lights

I've lost both the oil and water temp warning lights on the dash after the following happened: I either put a 12V feed or earthed the yellow wire on the injector pump multi-plug and there was a loud cracking noise (like a fuse blowing). The yellow wire then became live. I think it's probably a relay with the contacts welded shut, but where is it???
PS can get temp warning light to come on by earthing wire at temp sender (haven't tried the oil one) Read more

I need the pin number not the colour for the 4 pin connector off the pump. The bad news is that if it was pin 1 or 3 these are part of the anti start immobiliser form the ECU and I hope the crackling noise did not come form there. pin 4 is chassis and 2 feed the oil pressure switch as well the the engine oil pressure. if you had grounded this the light would have come on but come off again afterwards. The temp switch is also linked to this by a doide so both lights come on if there is an a lack of diesel or oil pressure and only the temp light if it is too hot. What were you trying to do anyway. My 2001 Y reg Mondeo 2.0l petrol makes a strange noise when the engine is switched off. For approximately 2 seconds a definate moosing noise can be heared. I guess it could be a belt but when I have been listening in the engine bay I am unable to tell where the noise is coming from.

I hear the noise occasionally when turning the wheels when the car is staionary and the revs dip a little (due to the power steering). Could the noise and the power steering be linked?

The car has done 117500 miles.

Any suggestions most welcome. Read more

Its common on sealed petrol systems, when the vacuum reaches a certain point the valve on filler cap opens to let air in,some systems/cars have them above the fuel tank rather than in cap
