Forum LPG ?

Still looking for a newer car , and came across a Volvo S60 bi-fuel (LPG) . Its a 2002 model and to be honest it is very nice . But my big worry is (please excuse me) because its a 2.4 5 cylinder no turbo , will it still cost as much to run , as say a diesel Vectra ? The car will be doing a lot of town work . Read more

The figures that I used assumed for an OEM LPG Vx Zafira

Petrol 75p/l 40mpg net additional capital cost nil

diesel 75p/l 50mpg net additional capital cost nil

LPG 38p/l 35mpg net additional capital cost 450 (half of cost of conversion net of powershift grant)

I travel all over the place and do not always know where the cheap gas is, nor frankly do I have time to chase it.

The servicing costs for such a car are virtually identical to a pure petrol car.

I'm sure taht my figures are a bit out but they demonstrate that LPG can be a good deal.

It's on tonight at 11:05 on Yorkshire ITV, maybe elsewhere too. A must see if you haven't already (or even if you have). Read more

I would appreciate your informed opinion on which are the best small, ladies cars, with an automatic gearbox, a Diesel engine, Air Conditioning and ease of entry and with a softish ride.
I find that many Japanese cars (like the Jazz) ride like bricks. recommend. Why oh why, when the roads are so bad do the manufactures assume that we all have German bottoms and wish to corner on the door handles?I am therefore looking at the present Ford Focus, C3(not availble in Auto diesel)or the coming Citroen C4, Tyota Yaris, new Fiat & perhaps the new Astra. Plus any others that you might. My thanks in anticipation Read more

I thought about the Audi as the best choice, but although it is small(ish); it's a lot of money, it must be near £20,000 with little discounts.

The A-class ride might be too harsh, but it is probably the only car that Nikki might be able to find second-hand.

If the Fiesta had a Diesel automatic it would probably be called a Duratorq with a Durashift, but I can't say I have seen one.

So it looks like Citroen or Renault then..

I thought I\'d share this with you that I\'ve copied from another forum.

I was pulled over last night by a copper who\'d followed me for a couple of miles and breathalysed. Bearing in mind I could barely stand it was no surprise to find I was massively over the limit. This was particularly disgraceful as I had the missus and kiddy with me in the car.

I was arrested and read my rights. It was all a very salutary experience, especially when the copper got shirty because I found the whole business side-splittingly funny.

His mate, whilst the arrest took place went and had a good look round the car, came back and started whispering to the other copper. They are whispering frantically at each other and neither of them look very pleased.

Copper turns to me and starts accusing me of wasting police time, he calls me a twit. I point out he\'s just sworn at a member of the public, in front of an 18 month old child and that I\'ll report him for conduct unbecoming.

Plod get back in their car and drive off, with the copper who\'d had a look round my car laughing his head off.

And the moral of the story for the police is....

Always check whether a car is left or right hand drive before breathalysing the guy in the passenger seat.

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and I am hoping you may be able to offer some advice on a Mondeo problem.

When slowing down from speed the engine will fail to idle and will die but will usually restart. When starting from cold or hot the engine often hunts around the idle rpm or may simply start and die. This can happen several times before it will run properly. When it does run properly it occasionally hunts around the idle rpm otherwise it runs perfectly.

The garage have not been able to find a problem as the problem never manifests itself at the garage. There are no failure codes showing on the diagnostics.

Has anyone experienced this problem before and how should I go about curing the problem/

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks guys

Just thought I might seek some advice.

Leaving London, which is usually the best m'way to take the M1 or M40? Starting off in west London.

I usually do the M40 but thought a change might be nice unless it is a diabolical road. I can't remember the last time I went up the M1. Read more

>>you do not have to contend with the M6 thro' Brum>>

I made that very point earlier - it once took me more than six hours to get from Broadway to Ormskirk on a Friday afternoon; that included a detour through Warrington at the height of the teatime rush hour to reach the A49 and then M56, as the M6 from junction 19 north contained virtually stationary traffic...:-(

The outward journey had been little more than a leisurely two hour drive.

If I buy a 12-18 month old (UK Spec)Ford Mondeo will it definitely come with the balance of the original 3 year warranty.
I gather the original warranty is one year plus 2 years free optional. Am I right to assume the optional 2 years is only valid if the car is serviced by Ford. Would I have to register the new ownership with Ford?

Grateful for advice.

Heya Aprila, I thought that as well, which is why when i got my new fiesta in June i phoned up Ford UK to ask. Their reply was thus:
1) For the first year actual manufacturer's warranty you don't have to get it serviced at ford, just evidence of ford parts and schedule used
2)For the next two years of basic "Ford protect Classic" (3yr 60k) which is given to you "free". You still can have the car serviced anywhere as long as evidence of ford parts is given
3) If you decide to take out ford "premium plans" (3/4/5 years) which you can only do before you book your first service, then you have to get the car serviced at Ford only.

Major gripes from this morning\'s drive into work:

Why do people drive in minimal visibility with no lights on or sidelights only? Was the motorcyclist I saw without lights actually trying to commit suicide or did he think that everyone else had xray vision?

Why don\'t people leave longer gaps? Does safe braking distance mean nothing?

Do drivers not understand how high their bow wave goes over other cars? MPV and HGV drivers seem to be particularly poor at this - hey guys, some of us (and our engines) are nearer to the ground than you!

Is it a foreign concept that if you hit surface water at speed, there\'s a very good chance you\'re going to skid/aquaplane? Frankly I don\'t care if you smash your own car up or give yourself a bruised nose but leave my and mine out of it!!!! Read more

I was taught that too.

By a RWD car that turned through 180 degrees. You don't forget lessons like that!

I have just bought one of these cars, and I am thinking, purely for cosmetic and superficial reasons, of getting it lowered a little. To be honest, I don't drive it hard enough to be able to claim I want to improve handling, or anything like that - I just think it'd look nicer a bit lower.

I see from various websites that I can go out and buy a set of lowered springs, but is that all there is to it?

Do I also need to replace shock absorbers? If I lower the ride height by as much as 35mm, am I going to start having serious grounding problems, or handling problems?

Most of the springs I have seen talk about a 35mm reduction in ride height, but I'm not convinced that, with the standard wheels on it, there'd be enough clearance left inside the wheel arches.

If it is a problem. are there options to get springs that lower the car rather less than 35mm?

If it's going to compromise the car significantly, then I'll forget it. But it *would* be nice (then, so would low-profile tyres, but that's a bit expensive for me to consider *just* yet). Read more

www.buypartsby.co.uk do KYB lowering springs cheap, but dont appear ot list them for that car. i expect they do them so give them a call, prices of springs sets for other cars are very good.
