petrolhead

Hello all, anybody got the knowledge on LPG conversions? Its a Millenium system about 3 years old. It will run the car ok for a few miles then almost shuts off. ( Car will just idle only) Car runs ok on petrol. Diagnostic inconclusive. Ive re-earthed the solenoids, renewed the stepping motor and substituted a new solenoid for each of the 3 in turn. No effect. Most installers dont want to know if they did not fit the system, but much more of this and Ill take the whole lot off!!!! Read more

Well they obviously didn't come to the one I know of who has made some dangerous errors. and just getting one conversion done isn't a very good sample.

I would like to read the report though, can you tell where you saw it, what mag & issue?

People who park in a marked parking space - (you know the ones with a thin dotted white outline and a double dotted white line on each end) - and they leave about a meter or upto 2m between the end (the bumper not the wheels) of their car and the end of the parking space.

I've asked a traffic warden about this and he said as long as your *wheels* are within the white box (or even on - but not over the end) you won't get a ticket, in other words if you have a large overhang at the rear of your car, it's ok to overhang the white box.

I allways make sure when I park in a white space, that my wheels are at the outermost point of the white box, if I get out and I see my wheels are a few inches inside the box, I'll get in and move the car a few more inches. Thus other people will be able to park within the box aswell. Usually a box capable of holding four cars comfortably will have some inconsiderate @#$% who has parked over a meter inside the end, then the box as a result can only hold three cars.

Someone did this right infront of me once we both wanted to park and there was room for us both on the end, he parks like 5 feet inside the end of the box! and I can't get in, I got out and called to him, and asked him politely to move his car to the end, he obliged me and I easily managed to park aswell. People are just not aware that this simple thing will stop other people from parking where they ought to be able to.

I have a problem with my 94 citroen zx td when starting from cold.

The engine cranks for about 10-15 seconds before catching. After this it starts fine all day.

This problem has started to occurr after I had the head rebuilt and replaced after a cambelt snap. The mechanic did take the engine out to do the job - due to restricted access in the bay.

The car was a first time starter before this.

Apart from this the car drives fine. The glow plugs are new - original Beru ones- so it is not that. Whilst the head was off the mechanic checked the injecters - they were fine also.

If I bleed the fuel system by pumping the bulb about 10-12 times then the car starts fine - straight away.

I think that the fuel is in the line is draining back into the tank. How can I rectify this?

What else could be causing this?

Just to give feedback:

Finally got round to looking at the problem - would have gt garage to do it- but quicker to do it myself.

It was the return or spill lines on the injectors. - Had very minor splits - only one was leaking - the others were not but were split at the ends. Changed these - and result - started first time instantly, just like it used to.

Thanks for the help. Was getting tired of pumping that primer - had to pump it about twenty-five times just to get it started in the mornings!!

I ended changing all the spill lines - Citroen dealer wanted about £10 - for the pipe!! Got it from local GSF for £2.00 (1 metre)!

I have seen a brand new unregistered Kymco Miler scooter 125cc in a London store called Mac Motorcycles (which has a zero mileage). Since this is the old model, the dealer has offered to sell it for £2000 with warranty. This is a reduction from £2400 new. These are my questions:

1. Is this price fair? Can anyone give me an idea of how much lower I can bargain this price down to.
2. Since the scooter has been in the showroom for one year +, should the engine oil, gear oil, coolant and brake fluid be changed as it may have deteriorated within this time.
3. The scooter was taken in and out of the showroom to view it outside. The mirror caught on the door and has a scratch. How much do these mirrors cost to replace, and should I use this as a bargaining point?
4. Does anyone know whether these are good bikes for durability and reliability? My research has shown that they are good, but can anyone give further info?

Any advise would be very much appreciated.

Hi guys... I have a 1995 cavalier 1.7 td. i have noticed that in traffic the temeprature is getting right up to just over the 100 mark, though it has never yet got actually into the red. is this normal? my mate used to have one, and he reckons that his very rarely ever got over about 95. on a run it sits at around 93ish. the cooling fan kicks in at about 100, and then it goes down to about 98. I have checked the oil and water, and both are spotless, there is nothing blocking out air from getting in either. I know my car is nothing special, but it has still got me worried, as i need it for work every day, and inevitably get stuck in traffic. has anyone got any ideas? perhaps i can adjust the fan to kick in at a lower temperature? I have only had the car for a couple of months, so i dont know when the coolant was last changed, it is clean, so i was never really fussed. never knew that too much AF could cause probs, and it does look like there is quite a bit in there. thanks for your help guys, have set my mind at ease... if i still have a prob after a flush out, i'll let ya know:-) thanks again. much appreciated.

My daughter reported "It sounds as if there's an animal in the engine when I turn the key". Confident Dad says "Ha! Must be the heater fan. Turn it (and everything else) off, and listen. I bet the animal groans will have stopped." Wrong. Lasts for about 5-10 seconds and stops.

Took to dealers today. Needless to say, animal well behaved and refused to perform. Feel a really wally.

Any ideas what it can be? Sounds like some pump is pressurising upon turning on the ignition circuit before starting engine. Noise seems to be coming from n/s engine bay.

Should I worry?

Advice most welcome! Thanks. Read more

Thanks very much - that's reassuring. Strange that the groan has only now developed (daughter has had the car from new, for 18 months / c15K miles).

Thanks again for replying.

My Fiesta Ghia 1.4 (from new) is now experiencing yet another problem. It's another intermitent problem this time with the central locking, the remote key fob sometimes fails to lock and unlock the car doors.

So far, I've had the battery replaced in the Key fob after that Ford replaced the remote control section of the Key fob and I'm still experiencing the problem.

Is anyone else experiencing or has experienced this problem with their Fiesta?

I guess the next thing to investigate would be the receiver section of the car. I'll know more next week. Read more

My local garage, (in Spain) have used this in my last service/oil change, in February, ( at a horrendous cost too! ).
My vehicle is a Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi 100 BHP. (yr 2002)
Can any of you knowledgable chaps tell me if this is a fully synthetic oil and is it suitable for extended service intervals in the VW PD turbo diesels?
I normally change oil around every 10,000 kilometers, but as we drive to the UK next month for a five week visit, I wonder if a bit over my usual oil change intervals will be OK?
