My daughter reported "It sounds as if there's an animal in the engine when I turn the key". Confident Dad says "Ha! Must be the heater fan. Turn it (and everything else) off, and listen. I bet the animal groans will have stopped." Wrong. Lasts for about 5-10 seconds and stops.
Took to dealers today. Needless to say, animal well behaved and refused to perform. Feel a really wally.
Any ideas what it can be? Sounds like some pump is pressurising upon turning on the ignition circuit before starting engine. Noise seems to be coming from n/s engine bay.
Should I worry?
Advice most welcome! Thanks.

From what you're saying, it sounds like the fuel pump is priming itself. If that's the case, then it's pefectly nomal.

Thanks very much - that's reassuring. Strange that the groan has only now developed (daughter has had the car from new, for 18 months / c15K miles).
Thanks again for replying.
