Advice needed. Bought a vent mounted air freshener. Overnight it became detached and spilled over the gearshift surround.
My Mondeo (2003) has aluminium trim which now has a large black ?stain? after reacting with the liquid. Will not clean with spirits. Any suggestions, or is it a replacement trim? At what cost?

Thanks anyway. The one I need is similiar but curves up to incorporate the holes for cup holder, boot release button etc. Facelifted (2003) model?

I bought an Audi A4 Avant (98, R) in April and have been very happy with it so far. . . . . . but now two things;

1. the A/C display panel has gone a bit wonky and
2. the alarm has started going off (at night only!!) for no reason.

I think these issues may be related and will visit a garage ASAP. It appears that I cannot lock the car without activating the alarm/immobilizer - so my only option is to either, look forward to getting up every hour or so to turn it off (and look forward to getting lynched by the neighbours) or leave the car open. Any other A4 owners have similar experience? Read more

If it has the standard VW group alarm - lock the car with the key in the driver's door lock twice within 5 seconds, and the alarm should not be activated. Wishing you a peaceful night's sleep....

Folks,

We need a little advice. We are looking a for a small diesel 4 wheel drive car for commuting that will be cheap to run and will get us to work in the harsh winter here in north east Scotland. We don?t really want to spend a lot of money but rather than give a budget we just want to hear ideas. It doesn't have to be new ( it can be any age in fact) just as long as it meets the above criteria.

Look forward to your thoughts.

The brakes on my 406 Coupe V6 squeal like a piggie. I have used the spray which works for a short while byt then it comes back. The brakes in question are Brembo (though I?m not sure this makes a difference). Anyway, I?m going to have to change them soon anyway so my questions are:

Is it worth upgrading away from the stock parts?
If so, any suggestions on what I should go for?
Will different pads cure the problem ir is it something to do with the brake design?

Thanks folks.

Hi Everyone,

We have an HR-V which is fantasic, however the rear seats only come with two standard seat belts from factory.

We was thinking of replacing the car, but I friend said that I was able to install an third seat belt.

If I did this, will it effect the MOT and also insurance?

If you have any other input, I would greatfully recieve it.

Regards

Each insurance company will have its own set of rules so best to check with yours. As to seating capacity, what does handbook say? 2 or 3 allowed in rear seat? Has the car been homologated to carry 4 or 5 people? Are there extra holes/mounts in the body to take a fifth belt? Have you asked Honda UK what their opinion/advice is?

Mike H

I've just bought a 1996 Megane with 175/70TR13 tyres - unfortunately it came without a handbook. Can anyone please tell me what the correct tyre pressures should be, thanks.

Also, if anyone has a handbook I'd be grateful for it! Read more

Thanks, very useful.

afternoon all,
i must be really bored or sad lately, as i find the "ads" on telly more interesting than the programs.....all of which i seem to have already seen!.
however, when the car ads come on, i have found that most of the cars that show a number plate have the number 8 in the reg somewhere, no matter who the makers are....is there a reason for this??
my list of numbers in plates to date is

toyota avensis...808
mg/rover ad....888 (on the 75)
suzuki grand vitara ad.....831
jaguar s-type.....118
ford fiesta (pinball ad)....801
chrysler crossfire........825
and to finish it off.... part of the telephone number on the ford thunderbird ad.....111888!!!!

d`oh i think i must be ill or something!!!

If God really doesn't like things associated with 13, I don't
think, in his ineffable wisdom, he's going to be fooled by
someone missing out a number!

Ahh, but does he count the ground floor as "0th" or "1st"? ;-)

After jump starting on my BMW P-reg having not driven it for 3 weeks, the shift electronics for automatic transmission (telltale lamp for electronic shift control) light comes on. Looking at the manual it says:

\"This should go out when the engine is started.

- If the lamp does not go out or
- If it comes on during a journey,
there is a fault in the electronic shift control or transmission.\"

Without starting the engine, the light goes out, but comes on when the engine is running. Drove the car round the block, and which ever gear I select (D, 1,2,3) the preformance is slow to respond.

Has anyone experienced similar porblem on their car, just like to get a rough idea on what problem/solution I have and if its a garage (dealership) job and cost wise.

Thansk for your help. Read more

Malvin

Okay, I'll do that. But......that light kinda matches with the preformance problem I had whiles going round the block, so it might not possibly be a shock/re-setting.

I have a '97 MR2 mk2, one of the key fobs has lost synchronisation with the car, (battery is still good).

Does anyone know the sequence of removing the battery / pressing buttons required to resynchronise ?

I have checked out another forum where users have used and endorse this product which gives an almost invisible repair.
