Can anyone help me sort out the windscreen on our 98 Corsa?
Theres some kind of contamination on the inside and it just will not clean off. Its fine when dry but if it has condensation on it it is impossible to see out until the condensation dries out. You wipe it off with paper towel, a chamois or the back of your hand but the mist and smearing is still there - wiping it makes no difference. Its getting to the stage where its dangerous to drive it at night for the first few miles till the heater dries it completely.
I have used screenies, holts glass cleaner, washing up liquid, widowlene vinegar based glass cleaner, and finally nail varnish remover but none seem to make any difference.
A previous owner smoked but we dont- and so the car has been smoke free for 2.5 years, and I never use those horrible silicone based cockpit shiners.
Any ideas please- I think a brick may be heading its way pretty soon!

Todays downpour has proved that the advice you all gave me worked a treat, thanks very much.
The blocked pollen filter was I guess just causing the humid air in the car to be re-circulated, and the caustic certainly made a difference on the screen. So thanks to all and happy new year!

Not sure if it\'s the clutch. Got in today and car just doesn\'t go. When in any first three gears car revs like clutch down but once over 30 runs ok but starts to over rev when accelerating. Could this be the clutch or something else if the clutch how costly ????????????? Read more

50K IMO is premature....but it depends where/how it has been (ab)used.

Back in the 1970's when my parents bought their first estate car, you could get a "dogmaster divider" which split the load area lengthways - half for your pet, half for luggage. They didn't get one however- just a full-width dog guard.
I am now trying to find a "split" guard for my Ford Galaxy with no success so far. For do a tee-shaped guard which splits the load area but also places a full-width guard behind the middle row of seats which is OK if you want to carry 5 people, a dog and luggage, but useless if you want to carry 6 people plus a dog.
I have tried a few searches on the internet but with no success so far.
Can anyone else help?
TIA

Any dog magazine will be full of the sort of thing that you are looking for (a dog cage effectivly). They even have sloping sides to them to accomodate the curve of the glass in the rear window.

i have a air/fuel gauge in my car(91 vw g60) and it has stopped cycling at idle. i swaped gauges and checked the wiring still no joy..so i tested the voltage at the o2 signal wire,it gave .6volt steady at idle...at cruise it cycles normaly

the car starts and drives noramly and doesnt seem to make any black smoke

can anyone give any help on what to do next...and would i be better using a bosch o2 sensor rather than the no name brand i have in there now

I own a 1982 audi 80 and most times, but not all, when I use the clutch, the engine will rev up as soon as I put my foot on the clutch. No matter how gentle I am and I can actually feel the accelerator pull away from my foot. There is no entanglement between the clutch and throttle cable and the carb is well set up and smooth in operation, the car is running well perhaps a little on the lean side even. Any ideas?

Just a thought.. it could be that the high vacuum in the inlet manifold at idle is partially opening the throttle..might be worth checking that the carb throttle plate return spring isn't weakened or incorrectly fitted.

Hello all,

Hope you all had a good Christmas and that there's no more turkey left!

I have a 1990 Golf GTD which, apart from a slightly obstructive gearbox, is not too bad. Except for the extremely heavy steering. I have checked the front tyres and they are remoulds (boo, hiss) so would changing them for 'proper' tyres make a difference? Is there anything else that I should be looking at?

Thanks in anticipation

I owned one of these from new. The steering was extremely heavy from scratch and I had to sell it after I suffered a shoulder injury while motorcycling. The handling was awful as well with tremendous understeer . Pity because it went like stink and was very economical.

there's so much doom and gloom about ...
for us, tears have turned to relief and great joy here in Hacko Hacienda:
the family's 9 year old boxer dog seems to be picking up nicely after 3 Christmas days in the vet's tender care with serious blood disorder.

My Skoda dealer (sales Dept) agreeing to pay for a new power steering cable on our 2½ year old Fabia diesel! Supposed to be covered by 2nd/3rd year warranty, but rejected 'cos I wasn't prepared to leave the car for 72 hours for inspection by the warranty co, who travel from Barcelona to Marbella to inspect & won't give a definate appointment! (we live 35 km from the dealer - how to get home??)

Yesterday I braved the weather and travelled a total of 280 odd miles with my family in the K reg Discovery 200TDi

I was prepared to suffer a huge difference in handling, performance and comfort from the Xantia (2.0 16v), but was surprised to find out that the difference was not as great as I had expected.

With the right conditions, dry roads etc, cruising at up to 90MPH was not ambitious, the wind noise was present but not intrusive. Although the seats are harder than the Xantia, I didn't suffer neck or back pains at all.

Even at high speeds the acceleration was definately significant in 5th gear.

I worked out that the trip cost me roughly £30, which roughly equates to 10 gallons of diesel.

So that seems to calculate at 28 MPG, with 90% Dual carriage way and Motorway driving, and 10% country lane driving.

So, if you're going to get a disco - get the 2.5 TDI!

Other possibilities are that the first tank was not brimmed full, or that the calibration on the fuel pump on the second fill was inaccurate, although I believe that Trading Standards keeps a regular check on this sort of thing.

Hi all it seems the in thing for chrismass presents this year was motorised scooters, you know the ones that are like kids scooters with a tiny little engine mounted on the back that sounds like an angry bee is after you.Well my question is does anybody know the legal ins and outs of kids say 10 years old roaring up and down the pavements on these things? I thought it was illegal to drive any type of petrol / diesel propelled vehicle without a license, being under age let alone on the pavement.

" they do require insurance"

That won't be too easy to obtain, if they are illegal to use almost everywhere...

Thinking about buying one of these say 1994 or 95.

Two questions: are they any good, and what do I need to look out for.

Thanks

Nice sounding motor but getting on a bit now, showings it's age.

Don't think the MPG will be brilliant, compared to DI Diesels around.
