My b/f and I have looked at a couple of NX100's to find something to replace his current car, and while we both really liked them he is concerned that they look like a bit of a woman's car!!! I don't think they do, but I've got some convincing to do - especially as we've seen a gorgeous metallic blue one that I absolutely loved!!!
Your thoughts (and support!) please

I have a 1997 ford mondeo turbo diesel and I recently had the engine reconditioned. A week ago it completed 500 miles and I took it back to the garage for its first service. Since yesterday it has progressively started smoking from the exhaust. It has also started to intermittently go into very high revs without me pushing on the accelerator pedal?. One mechanic has said it it likely the turbo itself is gone, could this be the problem? what can I do?
Since it had the engine reconditioned it has lost power and I struggle to go up steep hills?
Please help.

Moses,
When someone reports problems with a recon engine we tend to think this way first...
Are you sure this wasn't just a cleaned up used engine fitted?
Could it be your old engine with just its main fault repaired?
How much did you pay, a proper recon on this engine inc fitting should have been over £1700. Much less than that and it couldn't have been done correctly.
Low power sounds perhaps like poor compressions...revving could be engine burning its own oil.
If your turbo was OK before there is no reason for it to fail in 500 miles.
What do the guys say who supplied the engine?

(I was pretty sure I already posted this but couldn't find it so please forgive me if you see it twice)
My family and I are planning on touring Europe with some friends from America. We want to drive around Europe, the problem? There will be 10 of us all together. The plan is to buy the vechile then sell it afterwards.
Are there any MPV's\Limos\mini buses\caravanettes, which would be comfortable for a few weeks of driving for 10 people + luggage?
Incidently we are based in the London area if that makes a difference.
Any suggestions would help.
Thankyou,

We hired a Nissan Patrol in Cyprus once that seated 12, 3 in the front row 3 in the next row and 2 3 seater benches facing each other in the boot. Couldn't really call it comfortable though.
I have an X reg Avensis just coming out of secondhand 'toyota new car equivalent' warranty. It has some minor steering clunks -- it's only evident on fairly full lock at low speeds (you don't normally do full lock at high speed in an Avensis!) and can't really be felt, only heard. I thought it was just soft engine mountings until I read the HJ car-by-car breakdown.
Does this sound like it is actually the steering rack issue that is cured by re-greasing mentioned in the HJ car-by-car breakdown? Is the fix important (i.e. safety, durability) and should I be looking to get it done under warranty?
Cheers

Thanks Alan,
I'll try to do it under warranty and I'll post back a summary of my experiences. Given what you say I have mentally prepared myself for the dealer's expression of complete amazement/blank incomprehension.
BTW yes I do just remember threepenny bits but was never actually old enough to own one.
Cheers

I'm having some trouble getting rid of some type of water marks from my windscreen, and wonder if anyone has seen a UK outlet for this treatment, www.diamondite.com/welcome.htm ,or similar?
The marks are most noticeable on colder mornings with a heavy dew. The wipers appear to move the water, but there are erratic marks left behind. Once the heater gets up to temperature the effect is less of a problem. Read more
Out of interest Coco Cola contains weak phosphoric acid, see scifun.chem.wisc.edu/chemweek/H3PO4/H3PO4.html
Vinegar is, of course, acetic acid. So they are both very good for dissolving alkali stains such as lime deposits. I think that a lot of glass cleaners contain either, or both acids.
Coke and vinegar are a lot cheaper than Autoglym glass cleaner!
Hi,
I have just taken the plunge and bought a 99 Omega Elite.
There was no manual with it, but thats all right as I can work out most things ...... BUT apparentley NOT how to zero the trip computer.

Correct, except that for the stopwatch, one press on the top button makes it start, one stops it, and a third press resets it.

Try www.autoclimate.co.uk - you will be able to find a good air con specialist in your area.
We use them for our air con repairs and save 50% against manufacturer repairs (for the same part)

About 6 months ago I purchased an approved used vehicle from a main dealer. The car was about 15 months old with 1 previous local owner who had traded it in for another of the same model. The car in my opinion was immaculate and the fact that it had only covered 6k miles made my mind up and I duly proceeded with the purchase.
Now don't get me wrong I'm very happy with the car and plan to keep for about 3 years but here comes the problem. A couple of weeks ago I was washing the car and noticed some paint overspray on one of the rear passenger door window seals. After further investigation it appears that the vehicle has had a repair which involved replacing the rear quarter panel.
Now what to do? The vehicle is covered under the manufacturers warranty and paintwork warranty and I WILL expect this to be honoured should any problems arise but my concerns are more deep rooted. I don't really want to change the car but am concerned that come re-sale this will affect the value. I also feel pretty angry as buying from a main / reputable dealer should be no risk. I just now regret not getting an inspection and ringing the previous owner when I bought the car to ask a few questions.
Any advice / thoughts appreciated before I take any further action with the dealer / manufacturer.
Thanks

There was a report a number of years ago that buyers were given the fare to go to the continent to pick up their new cars. It seems that so many cars were arriving in transporter ships so tightly packed that the dockers were walking over the cars and thus damaging the paint. Anybody remember that ?
Also, I passed the car storage yard off the M18 several times; it is visible from the road. I was impressed by the sheer number of cars there. Was the car damaged during storage, and repaired for sale ?
I bought a VW Polo, 1.4cl auto R reg 1998, this year but not 100% happy with it. I find when I\'m driving over potholes etc that the steering wheel very quickly pulls to the left & I have to quickly have to grab hold of it.
Does anyone out there have any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks very much, it is quite excessive. So it could be the shock absorbers but have pushed down on wing and car doesnt bounce. But I will get it checked out thanks once again.
Twice this week I have turned the engine off, taken the keys out and had four loud beeps coming from the drivers side of the car as a response.
Any ideas as to what it might be trying to tell me?
Thanks Read more
