Anyone any experience of this company/product? They apparently have a facility whereby 4 tyres are injected for around £35 preventing any punctures of around 9mm becoming a problem. This would be a major advantage for my `98 Volvo V70 XC to have. Punctures are a BIG isssue for this particular vehicle and £35 is a very small price to pay.

It seems they are for the trade. I do hope not. Read more

I used a product like this a while ago on my Saab. Whislt it is a fairly harmless goo, it does screw up your wheel balance, and in the end I got rid of it after having my front wheels balanced 3 times...

I'm considering buying a Mondeo Ghia from Trade Sales. They say that the spec is the same as normal except for the alarm which is not fitted to imports (but which dealers would normally fit themselves before selling). Trade Sales have offered to put one in. Anyone any experience of this? What would the quality of the Trade Sales one be - is it the same as the Ford dealer one? Is it vitally important to have an alarm - the car already has an immobiliser? Would it be better to book it in at a dealer to get this done?

My insurance company (Liverpool Victoria) didn;t even ask if the car was an import.

No need to feel nervous mate, it's nice getting that new car smell for the first time. I still get a blast of mine now and then after I've cleaned it. :)

Put it this way, I would buy from TS again, we had a great day going to pick the car up, flew down in the morning, stopped for a nice meal and then a nice long drive back in my own brand new car. Great! :)

i recently bought a peugeot 306 DT N reg.
The central locking and alarm didnt work, i put this down to the key fob. Changed the flat battery to find key fob was broken, changed key fob to find that although key fob was broke, ,something else doesnt work.
Can someone please help me- a) locate the central locking control unit, or know why central locking and Alarm dont work.
Maybe the sensor in car broke >?? Read more

I had a L reg 306 and experienced similiar problems - central locking wouldn't lock, then the speaker and elecy window stopped working. The fault? - wiring loom. Couldn't beleive how many wires they had squeezed into the junction - very bad design.

My parents have a 52 plate Focus Flight, 3.5k on the clock, with the 1.6 Zetec engine.

The car drives perfectly, as you'd expect, but every so often (particularly while going round corners) the ignition warning light on the dash will flicker on for about a second.

The dealer has cleaned the battery connections and found one loose, which has been tightened. That doesn't appear to have cured the problem however - and the biggest problem is the worry it's causing my father as the handbook says to drive immediately to the nearest dealer, which he is inclined to do.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Read more

The car went back to the dealer yesterday.

Apparently the cabling to the alternator had already been changed. They have now authorised a complete alternator replacement; let's hope this cures the problem.

Can anyone please advise on an intermittant engine cut out problem on an Alfa 156 2.0 TS.

Brief history is as follows:

Earlier last year engine cut out at low revs on two occasions (Feb and March). In April Alfa dealer diagnosed and replaced faulty idle actuator (cost £120).

All went well until October when problem reoccurred. Then again in November. In December the dealer could find no fault (cost £45). Two weeks later problem occurred again.

In January dealer diagnosed faulty phase sensor (cost £775).
The problem occurred again last month.

The dealer says he will check with other dealers to see if they have come across this problem. Roughly translated that means I will not hear from him again.

The problem is quite dangerous as steering and brakes are lost even if speed is low.

It only occurs about once per month probably because the car only covers about 4,500 miles per year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question P.A.S.Problem
OAP

The vehicle is a Mk3 Golf 1.9D

When I backed off my drive today the PAS behaved as if I had not yet started the engine ie even worse than if there was no PAS at all!

After 50yds it settled down and behaved normally and has continued to do so at subsequent start-ups.

Is the system trying to tell me something?

Comments / advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would advise investigating and rectifying the problem BEFORE it occurs again.

Have tried and failed to find the answer elsewhere, so hope that fellow Backroomers can help, please.

I've recently collected my new V70 2.4T, and am delighted with it. What a great piece of kit!

I do have one question though, please, to which I can't find the answer in the handbook or elsewhere:

Last night, when I locked the car away in the garage, and with the keys OUT of the ignition switch, I sat for a minute just enjoying the moment.

During this time, with otherwise total silence, I became aware of a very slight electrical humming noise, like a small transformer or tape deck motor, so I put the key back in the ignition, switched on, ejected the four CDs to give the motor nothing to do, incase the CD player was the culprit, and switched everything back off.

The noise continued.

I eventually traced the source to be somewhere behind the climate control panel on the centre console, and if I place my thumb over the small square temperature sensor grille, thus trapping the noise 'in', it becomes almost silent. This makes me think that it is more lkely to be Climate Control System related than CD player related.

Knowing that the Climate Control System checks the amount of water in the vapour trap 50 minutes after switching off, and if necessary runs the fan to clear it, I checked again after the car had stood all night in the garage, incase the system needed 50 minutes to shut down, but the hum was still there.

Any ideas, please?

Many thanks.

Hi Trilly,

To answer your question, when I started looking:

1) I was looking at more than £6k saving, and paid my deposit
(ie 'locked myself in') before the Sterling slide started.
Little was I to know that this would fall to £4.5K'ish,
happy though I still am with this.

2) I couldn't find any Volvo dealers in the UK prepared to give
anything like the type of discount I was after.

3) My father also purchased one of the very first S80 models to
come in to the UK, also via Bluekens. They were, therefore,
a known entity to our family, and therefore carried a
perceived minimum risk compared to using other foreign
garages, or import agencies, as was borne out in practice.

Yes, get a 2.4T if you are coming from an Omega 3.0 and wish for
similar torque characteristics. My previous Vectra GSi Estate had the 2.5 V6, with camshafts from the MV6 Omega to liberate more ponies. This also gave it bundles and bundles of lovely, easy, torque, far more so than any other V6 I have driven before. Despite it's tall gearing (just under 2500 RPM in 5th), with torque peaking at 1750 RPM, and then having a flat plateau past 5000 RPM, the 2.4T pulls it with ease. My friend's T5 is completely different, and is much more 'all or nothing', with all meaning ALL!

I wondered if anyone has been in the same situation that my girlfriend has found herself.

Bought a golf convertible in a private sale 6 months back for £4500.
Did an HPI check and paid the £25.00. It checked out ok.
Tried to register the change of ownership at the DVLA but someone else was trying to register the same car! DVLA inspect car, turns out it was stolen and car now seized by police before being handed out to the insurance company.

It seems the guy we bought it off had originally owned a golf convertible, sold it on to someone and then stole a similar one and sold it to my girlfriend using good copies of his documentation from the legit. golf.

So where do we go now. Have put a claim into to HPI people - what chances of them paying out? Anyone had any dealings? Their check came out clean because the details were right (ie name of owner, description of car etc.) and so they might argue that they did their bit.

I know we can sue this guy if he is worth suing, but (unsurprisingly) he has moved from last address and police are being slack in chasing him. Don't know if he is worth suing and get the feeling that the best course of action is against the HPI people.

Anyone been here before?
Any advice is much appreciated. Read more

daniel

Sadly not on a barclaycard or anything like that - hard cash I'm afraid.
Agree with last message that HPI may well pay up and any legal action/bad publicity is a last resort....just wanted to know what options people are aware of.

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a 1995 306 XSI, but I am not keen on the keypad immobiliser. Does anyone have any experience of removing this.

If I do get the car I want to fit an aftermarket CAT 1 System.

Cheers

Hi there,

My wife used to own a Pug106 in 1996, which also had a keypad fitted. I seem to remember that the manual listed a procedure that disables tke keypad operation. Maybe have a read of the manual before unconnecting the unit...

I need to have a camshaft drivebelt replaced and diesel engine valve clearances checked on a Vauxhall. I know that a Vauxhall dealership can do the job but of course at main dealership prices.

I could take it to any independent garage but I'd rather not have the work done by some jack-of-all-makes with a Haynes manual propped open under the bonnet (not that there's a Haynes manual for the engine anyway).

Can anybody please recommend an independent garage that specialises in Vauxhalls in the Ipswich/Bury St Edmunds area? If you can't name names, the postcode might be enough. Nothing shown in Yellow Pages. Thanks. Read more

Dynamic Dave

- do they really have two prices?

The Vauxhall Franchise near me also own a premises 10 miles down the road which is a Masterfit franchise. I was quoted the same price to have my 2 yr old Vectra serviced at both places; major service for £210 (with brake fluid change). Had it been a 3yr old Vectra, I could have got the same service done, with an MOT thrown in for £125 inclusive at the Masterfit place.
