Focus ignition warning light - DavidHM
My parents have a 52 plate Focus Flight, 3.5k on the clock, with the 1.6 Zetec engine.

The car drives perfectly, as you'd expect, but every so often (particularly while going round corners) the ignition warning light on the dash will flicker on for about a second.

The dealer has cleaned the battery connections and found one loose, which has been tightened. That doesn't appear to have cured the problem however - and the biggest problem is the worry it's causing my father as the handbook says to drive immediately to the nearest dealer, which he is inclined to do.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Do you mean the alternator light, often called the ignition light Red in colour, if so I sustect the cable harness/connector on the alternator. Regards Peter

It's red, on the right hand side bank of lights next to the tacho (not sure which one, I think it's the third from the top) and is called the ignition light in the driver's manual.

Ford had a similar problem on the Escort back in the 90's.It was one of the connections on the back of the alternator;the service fix was to cut off the connector and fit a different type-the car itself did not give any trouble and the battery never went flat-just a slightly glowing/flickering warning light.

The car went back to the dealer yesterday.

Apparently the cabling to the alternator had already been changed. They have now authorised a complete alternator replacement; let's hope this cures the problem.
