Why do I keep getting a '12V battery low' warning on my MHEV?
I have a Golf 1.5 eTSI MHEV (73 plate). I am regularly getting a '12V battery low' warning. I do not do many miles in the car, but I have never experienced this issue in all my many years of driving. My wife's Fabia of similar age and usage does not have this problem. Is this a recognised issue with this Golf; or do you think it is most likely to be a fault with a particular piece of equipment?

We have seen reports of owners experiencing low 12V battery warnings where they cover low mileages and the system does not have the opportunity to recharge, but this has been mostly owners of full hybrid vehicles rather than mild hybrids. It is possible there is a parasitic drain, but it is also possible that the low mileage has caused the battery levels to drop and it is not covering enough mileage to be charged back up. One option would be to use a trickle charger such as the CTEK NXT 5 which we reviewed here - kit.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/review-ctek-nxt-5/ or if you are concerned that there is a battery drain an automotive electrician would be able to help.
