My Omega 3.0 Elite Estate has just been rear ended, no-one hurt but its looking like an 'uneconomical to repair' situation. So its down to getting a replacement car pdq - before they take the rental car off me. Fortunately I took out Gap insurance so I should be o.k. financially.
My constraints are got to be auto, got to be estate and got to tow a 1500 kilo caravan comfortably long distance.
Apart from another Omega I am looking at late models V70 or Saab 9-5 Estate. I have a few concerns regarding towing with these.
1 - The V70 is fairly well documented as a decent two car, but anyone experience of towng with the V70 diesel auto.
2 - The Saab is an unknown quantity as a tow car - so any feedback would be useful. I have seen a 2.3 lpt estate which seems a good compromise.
Thanks
(p.s I don't really want to get into the 'wouldn't be seen dead in a Volvo debate')

seen youre talking about buying cars and that the subject i need help on.
ive got my eye on a renault clio 1.4rt as my first car, its advertised on the net and the guy who owns it lives near me. Im 19 and a student at uni with little cash but enough to wanna have a car. The owner has put alloys on it and coded bumpers and wants £1,395.
questions, is that a bad price, whats the lowest i can negotiate with him and is this a fairly decent/reliable car as i need to go backwards and forwards from hertfordshire to bournemouth occassionally?

Caz,
Bognor is about 70 miles from Bournemouth, straight along the A31/M27/A27. Turn right at Chichester.
Used to live in Blinkin' Bognor (went to school there) and now live in Poole. Have family up that way so do the trip quite often.
On a clear weekend you should allow 90 minutes. Oh, and it's only about 45 miles from Haywards Heath, if that.

Can anyone give me some feedback please on this system. I am considering buying a Lexus with one included. Is it outdated now or are you happy with the accuracy and breadth of coverage?

I've owned a '96 TD for about 4 months and was surprised how stiff the clutch was when I bought it. I've got used to it now, but have since heard that there's a problem with the cable drying out, preventing the automatic adjustment from functioning, leading to premature clutch wear and failure.
Is there any way of knowing whether this is happening other than a slightly stiff clutch pedal? I'd like to get it sorted sooner rather than later if it might lead to a £300 bill.
Thanks in advance,
Will

I changed the clutch cable on the wife?s Maestro last week.
This had been getting increasingly heavy and being 10 years old thought it was about time anyway.
It has lightened the pressure needed considerably and was obviously needed. Examining the old one the inner cable has it?s own lubrication almost like a nylon coating and this probably wears off on bends.
I don?t think lubricating it would have helped.
This has an automatic adjustment incorporated near the bulkhead and in the Haynes manual it explains that periodically this should be checked by pushing the clutch operating lever as far as possible in the opposite direction, and then holding the cable fitting where it passes through the bulkhead, pull the outer cable outwards with the other hand.
This has always worked in the past and lightened the clutch but recently hadn?t done the trick.
Perhaps worth looking on the 306 if a similar adjustment is needed.
And being an old car it took about ten minutes to change the cable and five of these were spent reading the manual.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Toyota used was never a production model - the drop head version was apparently specially built for the film.

2001 Fiat Ducato LWB (high roof) van.
This vehicle's windscreen has to be replaced about four times in the past year. Apparently its due to 'body flexing' thereby cracking the screen at the sealing rubber.
Any of you technical people got a solution ? Read more

Dont recall these having resin bonded screens?.
I do recall bonded screens coming in due to screen popping out when either driver/passenger hit screen, rubber mounted screens did so with no effort as in changing them.
resin bonded prevented this occuring as screen was fixed to body, and anyone going through one left less glass lying around after accident ie less injury`s to others.
where some people talk of strenght in a screen being 30% of vehicle strenght I fail to see??

......no, nothing to do with the Lone Ranger but something I've been wondering for a few years now and never bothered to ask out loud....
Why has Silver become such a popular colour for cars in the last few years? - Every other car, 4X4 or MPV I see on the road these days, no matter what model or marque seems to be Silver.
IMO the increase in popularity happened in the mid/late 90's - I especially recall seeing most of the "new" BMW 5's(E39) and Merc E class' coming out in Silver and it seemed that all the other marques followed suit. How many car adverts have you seen in recent years with Silver cars in them?
On a personal note, I have to admit that I'm a fan of Silver too but my favourite is a slightly darker shade such as Graphite Grey - a list of my previous/current cars to prove it;
Stirling Silver - E34 5 series
metallic Graphite Grey - Toyota Celica
metallic Dolphin Grey - E34 5 Series
Metallic Silvery Grey (name??) - Vx Omega

Hi, I am looking at buying a 2nd hand IS200 SE Auto with Satellite System from a Lexus main dealer.
It's in good condition but has done 57K miles.
It was registered in 1999 and is a T reg
They are asking £13,750. WHat do you think is a fair price to pay - £12,000?
I don't expect to put many miles on the clock so hoping to reduce the mileage over the longer term.
A quick answer would be very much appreciated.
Cheers,

If you don't mind spending your max budget, consider a '99 T/V-reg 328i Auto. You should be able to find one for £15k, although the mileage will certainly be higher than an equivalent IS200.
It's the same size as the Lexus, just as well-built, even better dynamically and much, much faster. A nice seamless autobox too, with smooth changes and kickdown even when driven hard.
Just heard on the radio (didn't it used to be called the wireless?) that the Freelander has the best used residuals in the land.
Could this be because nobody has ever managed to cover more than 6,000 miles in one?

Old shape, of course. At that price and mileage, HPI would be on speed dial before I bought it.
Oh - sorry if I put you on a wild goose chase!
I only use my one for towing a trailer and of course it's manual.
Hope you find something that does the job, though. Do let's know what you decide on.
Would a Skoda be any good? I think in another thread someone mentions the V6 is 'Tow Car of the Year'. Don't know if they do auto of course or what sort of weight it would deal with. Just a thought!
